She nodded a little, going back to eating. Melissa was taking a considerably longer amount of time to finish her food, sighing softly when she did finish.
"Thank you, Melissa… I love you so much." Lucas pulled Melissa close to kiss her gently.
Melissa flinched a little, but eased into his touch. She sighed weakly, resting her head on his shoulder. "I love you, too… I'm sorry I'm being so difficult…"
"Don't worry about it, Mel… it's okay." Lucas closed his eyes and sighed as he huddled up with Melissa.
"I- right… thank you…" Melissa whispered, resting her head against his shoulder.
"Of course, darling." Lucas kissed Melissa's cheek again.
"You… you wanna go curl up on the couch? Or… or are you going to go talk to my dad?" Melissa asked softly, looking up to him.
"Whichever you prefer, Melissa. I'm fine to do either." Lucas nuzzled into Melissa's shoulder a bit.
"I… um, I don't really care." Melissa whispered, shrugging just a little. "I don't care…"
"Well, do you need me to be with you now? Or would you be okay to be alone while I talk to him?" He asked.
"I'll be fine… I can handle myself for a little bit." Melissa whispered still, not moving from her spot. She didn't want him to leave, but she didn't need him to stay.
"Okay, Mel… I'll be back, then." Lucas kissed Melissa again before getting up and heading upstairs to knock on Mr. Brennahan's door.
No answer was heard for a minute or so, soft talking still going on through the door. But eventually Mr. Brennahan got up, pulling the door open. "Lucas?" He asked softly, looking confused. "Is everything alright?"
"Uhm… can I talk to you, sir?" He asked softly. "Uhm… it's about Melissa, and it's kinda important…"
Mr. Brennahan's face dropped a little, anything he had to do fading from his thoughts. "Is she alright?" He asked softly, stepping aside to let Lucas in.
"Uh…" Lucas toyed with his hair a bit, seeming nervous. "W-Well… I'm worried about her, sir. She's still having problems with the eating disorder and I've been away for months… I haven't been around to get her to eat, you know? And she was really resistant to eating dinner today, and I don't think she's eaten anything else today… I made her something to eat, though."
Mr. Brennahan listened to Lucas, drawing in a heavy breath. He let out a rugged sigh, pulling his glasses off his face to pinch the bridge of her nose. "I knew there was something wrong…" He muttered under his breath, rubbing his face a little. He wasn't annoyed at Lucas in the slightest, but he definitely came off as frustrated. "So she's eaten? You're sure she's eaten it all, and keeping it down?"
"U-Um… yes, as far as I know… she definitely ate it all, but I suppose I can't say or not whether she's kept it down…" Lucas sighed and fidgeted nervously with his hands.
"Right…" Mr. Brennahan whispered, dropping down into his office chair with a sigh. He kept his face in his hands momentarily, glancing over to Lucas. "You can sit down, Lucas."
Lucas nodded and sat down as instructed, still seeming pretty nervous. "Uhm… and she said that she hasn't told her therapist about this because she's not comfortable doing it. I just… I wanna help her, but I dunno what to do."
Mr. Brennahan kept quiet as he listened. He kept one hand to his face, running a hand through his hair. "Then we probably need to find her someone she feels comfortable with, don't we?" He stated softly, trying to work through this mentally. Reaching over, he pulled a pad of paper out, and picked up a pen. "I need to cancel her next appointment, and start looking for someone else. I- um… thank you, Lucas. You're doing plenty by talking to her."
"T-Thank you, sir.. " Lucas glanced around nervously, tapping his foot on the ground a bit. "I wanna make sure that she's okay, you know? This is really dangerous for her, and… you know…"
“I do know… I’m glad you got through to her. Enough at least. I was honestly really hoping you would…” Mr. Brennahan let out a weak sigh. “Did she tell you anything else that might be important for me to know?”
"Uhm… I don't think so… I'm just really worried about her…" He sighed softly. "S-She could die if she keeps this up and… I can't let that happen."
"Hey, she's not going to die. You don't need to worry about that, now that you've told me. I'm not going to let her get hurt. She's gonna be alright." Mr. Brennahan assured Lucas, giving him a gentle look. "I promise you. Nothing is going to happen to her."
Lucas looked up at Mr. Brennahan weakly and nodded a bit. "O-Okay… should… should I go with her to the therapist?? I'm scared for her…"
Mr. Brennahan kept up the soft look, a weak smile pulling up. "That's up to her. I know you won't like this, but she might need to go by herself. I know you love her, but she needs to be able to do some things by herself."
Lucas nodded again and ran his fingers through his hair. "Uhm… r-right… I think it might be a good idea to sorta track her eating in a way? Make sure she's getting enough?"
"That you can definitely help with. I'm obviously not going to be at school with you two, so I'll have to trust that you're keeping an eye on her there. I don't want to stress or pressure you, though."
"Yeah… I'm trying my best, I just… there's no way to say how much she was or wasn't eating when I was gone…"
