"Alright, alright…" Lucas looked Melissa softly before leaving the fort to go make sandwiches.
"Alright, alright…" Lucas looked Melissa softly before leaving the fort to go make sandwiches.
“Love you…” She called as he left. Melissa curled up in the fort, picking at the fabric of her shirt as she waited.
"Love you too, Mel." Lucas quickly made the sandwiches and soon returned with them.
When he came back, she slowly pushed herself into a sitting position. "Thanks, babe…" She mumbled as she reached for a plate.
"Mhmm." Lucas handed Melissa's plate to her and sat down with her, starting to eat his own food.
Melissa dropped her head on his shoulder, eating slowly as she curled up besides him.
"How are you feeling?" Lucas asked Melissa gently, still eating his own food.
"Fine, I guess… I don't wanna go to work, though…" Melissa mumbled, chewing slowly.
"I get that… it's too late to ask off I think, though." Lucas sighed and kissed Melissa softly.
"It is… I already took off like three days, though. I can't exactly take off more." Melissa mumbled, sighing weakly.
"Yeah… hopefully it'll be a good shift for you, at least." Lucas pulled Melissa a bit closer.
"M'hoping so… but it's going to be loud, and busy…" Melissa mumbled, clearing her plate off and setting it aside. "It's the dinner shift…"
"Yeah…" Lucas sighed a bit. "Well, I'm hoping for the best for you, Mel. You know I love you, right?"
"Hopefully tips will be good…" Melissa then nodded, kissing his cheek. "Yeah, I do… I love you, too."
Lucas nodded a bit as well. "Your dad and I are gonna be going to the school while you're at work to address the bullying thing and also to get Cody officially allowed to come with me."
Melissa looked up at him, pushing a weak smile up. "That's good… you think they're going to let him come to school?" She asked softly, curling up in his arms.
"Mhmm. He's got training, after all, so as long as we get all his papers cleared with the office… he should be allowed to come with me."
"Right… well- that's um… that's good." Melissa mumbled, fidgeting with her fingers. "He's a good boy… I don't see any reason you wouldn't be allowed to have him there…"
Lucas nodded a bit. "It'll be good to have him there… I expect to get stressed a lot during school." He laughed weakly.
"Mhmm.." Melissa hummed, looking up at him with a soft sigh. "School… school is gonna be rough…"
"Yeah, it will… I'm sure that we'll be able to get through it though, love." Lucas toyed with Melissa's hair a bit.
"I hope so… I- I'm really not looking forward to it…" Melissa mumbled, relaxing some as he played with her hair.
"Me either, but it'll be good to be back. Maybe I'll be able to play baseball again soon…" Lucas sighed.
"Yeah, maybe…" Melissa laid back on the floor, holding her arms out towards him. "M'sorry today has been so crappy…"
"No problem, Mel…" Lucas murmured, holding Melissa close to himself. "We're gonna be fine."
Melissa cuddled up against him, wrapping her legs around him. "You sure..?" She asked softly, looking up at him.
"Of course I'm sure, Mel… I'd hope so, anyway. Usually I'm the one having problems." Lucas laughed weakly.
"I know, but still… I- I'm just… things were rough before Christmas break, and I'm worried it'll be worse when we go back." Melissa mumbled with a weak sigh.
Lucas sighed softly. "I know, but… it's gonna get better, yeah? We're gonna be just fine, Mel."
Melissa buried her face into his shoulder, nodding weakly. "Right… you're gonna be there this time, at least…"
