"Okay, Mel… I can go with you whenever you want to, okay? I just don't want this to escalate…"
"Okay, Mel… I can go with you whenever you want to, okay? I just don't want this to escalate…"
Melissa nodded weakly, seeming to actually relax when he agreed. She rested her head on his chest, letting out a soft sigh. "T-Thank you…"
"Of course, Mel… is there anything else I can do?" Lucas asked gently.
Melissa shook her head, sucking in a shaky breath. “J-Just being here helps… a lot actually…”
"Alrighty… I'll stick with you here, then. I just took my meds, so we should be good."
"Mm… I was just about t-to ask you that…" Melissa mumbled, curling up in his arms. "M'sorry I'm such a mess today…"
"No problem, Mel… I'm kind of a mess every day." Lucas laughed weakly. "I think you've earned your turn."
"It doesn't feel like it… I've worn you down, and I'm sure you're tired of this." Melissa insisted, chin on his shoulder. "I feel bad… I heard it in your voice earlier, I know you're frustrated at least."
Lucas shrugged a bit. "I can't expect everything to be easy, Mel. Especially when it comes to us. I just wanna help you, okay? I'd never lie to you."
"I know, Lu… I still feel bad about it though. I'm sorry, but you're not going to be able to convince me otherwise." Melissa mumbled, sighing weakly. "But thank you… for loving me."
Lucas sighed softly and nodded. "Of course, Mel… I love you so much." He gently kissed her cheek.
Melissa smiled weakly up at him, rubbing the tears off of her face. She hugged him tightly, burying her face in his chest. "I love you, too… you mean the world to me…"
"Mm… ditto. When do you wanna start thinking about lunch?" Lucas asked gently.
"I… I really don't…" Melissa mumbled, curling up in an even smaller ball. "Do- do I really have to? I- I ate breakfast…"
Lucas sighed softly. "It would be better for you if you did. You definitely need some energy today."
"But I don't want to…" Knowing she was going to have to eat, she wasn't trying as hard as usual to get by. In all honesty, she was too tired to argue about it.
"See? You're tired all the time, Mel. You're not getting enough nutrients." Lucas kissed Melissa gently.
Melissa let out a weak sigh, loosening her hold on him. "But- but I… you're right…" She mumbled, avoiding eye contact with him.
Lucas smiled weakly. "Thanks, Mel… is there anything in particular you think you'd like?" He asked.
She shook her head, starting to fidget with her fingers. "No, not really…"
"Alright… um… sandwiches, maybe?" Lucas suggested. "I'm not the most talented of cooks." He laughed softly.
"It's fine… that's fine." Melissa continued to mumble, glancing up at him occasionally. "I don't really care…"
"Alright… I'll wait a bit to make it, though. I don't wanna leave you here alone…"
“I’ll be fine for a few minutes, if you want to go make food… Or I could go with you.” Melissa mumbled, resting her head on his chest with a weak sigh.
"You can come with me if you want… wanna huddle up in the blanket fort?" He asked.
Melissa nodded in response to his question, nuzzling up against him. “Yeah, kinda… could you carry me..?”
"Sure, Mel…" Lucas got to his feet and carefully picked Melissa up, carrying her downstairs to the blanket fort.
Melissa curled up even more in his arms, holding onto him tightly. Burying her face in his shoulder, she let out a weak sigh. “Thank you…”
"No problem. I'll go make our sandwiches now, okay?" Lucas carefully disentangled himself from Melissa.
Melissa huffed, taking his hand to stop him. “I want a kiss first… please?” She asked softly, lacing her fingers with his.
