Melissa nodded gently, her smile picking up as he nuzzled her. "Mhmm… is there anything that might make this a little better?"
Melissa nodded gently, her smile picking up as he nuzzled her. "Mhmm… is there anything that might make this a little better?"
Lucas shrugged, tucking his head under Melissa's chin for comfort. "N-Not really, no… I'm sorry, Mel…"
Melissa sighed weakly, nodding a little. "Right… what if I told you that it's your choice whether or not you have to stay after the three days? The doctor told me specifically that. Family complications won't be an issue."
Lucas looked up a bit at that. "I… I know, but I just…" He sighed. "I dunno what to do… I know I'm just being dumb and that I probably need to be there…"
Melissa gave him a soft look, kissing him. "Well, maybe it won't be as bad as you think it's gonna be. But if it is, you can come home. I won't try and persuade you to go back if you can't stand it."
Lucas nodded and huddled closer to Melissa after gently returning the kiss. "Okay… um… we'll see how it goes…"
"Mm… what's one of the first things you'd want to do when you came back, if you decided to stay?" Melissa asked softly, before burying her face in the crook of his neck.
"Mm… probably catch up on all the homework I'm bound to miss? I'll only be able to do so much while I'm stuck there."
Melissa sighed softly, nuzzling up against him further. "I meant something you'd want to do. Something fun."
"Mmmm…" Lucas considered for a second. "Probably go to the clearing and sit there for hours to make up for the time there I miss…"
"Would I be invited? Or is that just a you thing?" Melissa asked softly, not sounding like she would be hurt if he wanted alone time.
"You'd be invited… I'll have been alone for so long that I'll definitely want some company. I'm gonna miss baseball…"
Melissa gave him a sweet smile, wrapping her arms around his waist tightly. "I'd be happy to play a mock game, when you get back."
Lucas smiled weakly. "How well can you catch or throw a baseball?" He asked in a soft tone.
Melissa shrugged a bit, but kept up a soft smile. "I can learn. I'm not sure right now, but I can always practice."
"You really don't have to, Mel… I just hope they'll let me play in the games when I get back…" Lucas sighed.
"I want to though. And I'm sure if you still know how to play they'd let you." Melissa hummed, still smiling softly. "And I doubt you'd forget that quickly."
"True… did they say how long they plan on keeping me?" He asked, resting his head on Melissa's shoulder again.
"Umm… a month? Maybe two?" Melissa offered softly, seeming to hesitate before responding. "But it could be worse…"
Lucas sighed. "Yeah… it feels like it's gonna be such a long time…" He murmured softly. "It's gonna suck…"
Melissa gave him a soft look, sighing weakly. “I know… but maybe you’ll be back in time for my birthday? We can make up for all the lost time.”
"Hopefully… what do you want to do for your birthday, Mel?" He asked softly, huddling close again.
“Dunno… spend time with you. Obviously. And y’know, since it’s on New Year’s Eve, probably watch fireworks.” Melissa shrugged a little. “I don’t need much. Having you there is honestly plenty.”
"Mm… makes sense to me." Lucas kissed Melissa softly and sighed. "I'll try my best to be there, alright?"
“Don’t stress about it. There’s always next year if you can’t be there.” Melissa shrugged, giving a little smile. Though she had to admit, the possibility he wasn’t going to be there definitely wasn’t fun to think about. “And Laura can take care of me, too. She normally takes me out, and we do something fun.”
"Mel… I can't just not show up on your birthday. If worst comes to worst, maybe they'll let me go out for a day to spend some time with you? Or you could come visit…?" Lucas sighed.
Melissa shrugged again, starting to play with his hair once more. "It's no big deal. You don't have to do that, if it's gonna be a big deal. I'll be okay."
"It's important to me to be there for you, Melissa." Lucas leaned into Melissa's hand a bit. "I love you."
"I love you too, but I don't want you to do something that could possibly get you in trouble." Melissa insisted, kissing his forehead. "Of course I want you there, but I don't want it to cause problems."
"Well, I'm not going to break out or anything, Mel… I would try to get permission. Or try to be out of here by then." Lucas sighed.
