(I am back somewhat fully—)
Of course something had to come up, it wasn’t like he was going to have some enjoyment any time ever. With all the things going on in his life, it’s quite ridiculous how he managed to get away from so many situations like these before. He slowly stood up and sighed, readjusting his clothes somewhat.
“By ‘somewhere else’, where exactly do you have in mind?” He’d asked, genuinely questioning as to where she wanted to take him to. Not that he minded or anything.
"Well. Any other roof except this one? Maybe go steal a truck with a huge flat bed and drive all the way out to where there's no more streetlights." She shrugged. "Honestly I'm hungry though. The nights still young. Ya never know by tomorrow you may regret kissing my hand, and so you'll never see or speak to me again. Let's just…see where life takes us."
He had flinched when she mentioned the possibility of him never meeting her again. That’s… no. He quickly and almost instinctively caught her hand which she kept beside herself.
”Don’t…” he let go of her hand, taking it to his face and covering his blushing face. ”…p-please don’t go…?”
Her eyes widened in surprise as she looked down. "Why are ya so attached all the sudden hm?" She gave his hand a squeeze. "No promises,Con Man. I move like butterflies, never staying long. But I'll stay with ya tonight. As long as ya want me. It's the best I can do for now."
She was right, why had he become attached so suddenly. There was no reason for it… it wasn’t like she meant a lot to him. Quite frankly, she didn’t mean anything to him otherwise he wouldn’t have tried to kill her in the first place… and yet his heart seemed to say otherwise. With a mixture of confusing emotions, he nodded.
”I suppose we should get going…”
With that, Evelyn slid down one of the columns holding up the roof and landed on the ground, and fixed her wig a bit. "Well cmon then! The diner closes at 9, and it's all the way on the other side of town!" Her eyes sparkled at the anticipation of good food, watching his vampiric red eyes. They were alluring, and deep. Already she had quite the fancy for them. She found him interesting, and exciting but in a different way. She then turned away and bullet fast was walking down the sidewalk, soon being swallowed up by the shadows inbetween the street lights.
As he didn’t want to be left behind, Connor quickly followed her steps. He wanted to spend time with her more, mostly because he needed a break from everything that was happening in his life right now. He found himself being pulled into the shadows alongside her. The diner closes at 9? He wondered what this night will bring him at the end of it. Though… it’d be nice if he didn’t drink a drop of alcohol. Although he looked like a fancy gentleman who would be a drinker, he was extremely sensitive to alcohol. Who knew what would happen if he’d gotten drunk and had fallen asleep in front of Evelyn.
(High key she'd just carry him back to her place and probably fall asleep cuddling him.) She hummed to herself. "Well shit. I should've brought my guitar. Oh well. Oh and, I hope you have an eye for good food, they have the best ribs in town." She smiled brightly, quite the pep in her step as she turned a corner, humming a bit, totally lost in her own world. It was cute to say the least. And interesting. She was one of the most dangerous woman in New York and yet, here she looked almost like a child hurrying itself along to a candy store.
Connor can’t help but smile lightly at her actions. How was she acting so happily just after a failed attempt to kill her ex. He went completely silent for a moment. Her ex? Does this mean she’s single now? What was he doing here then? He felt like he shouldn’t really be here with her anymore just because people might get the wrong idea.
”Try not to get stains on your clothes…” and yet, he felt safe around her.
(Do it)
"Pffft. I got cleanser at home, it's fine. Trust me. I grew up with 14 siblings, I can get a blood stain out faster then you can scream help. I'm pretty used to dirt on my shoes and grass on my knees." She shrugged as she turned another corner, and then plopped down at a bus stop, and began to dig around in her guitar case, pulling out 3 dollars. "I hope this will be enough…" She shrugged. "I know the bus driver, maybe he'll cut me some slack."
”I’ll be glad to pay for the ride.” Connor mentioned as he sat down beside her. From the looks of it, he’d have to pay for the food as well. Not that he minded or anything. Of course, he was just a murderer, nothing else. He wouldn’t dare think of sort of criminal he’d become if he started doing other crimes.
"No no it's alright. I dragged you into my trouble, the least I can do is pay for bus fair and food. It's a courtesy thing. I'm the nicest asshole, I think is a really good way to describe me. I really don't mind." She shrugged and began to kick her legs back and forth while sitting on the bench. She was rather spunky as well.
Unlike Evelyn’s moving nature, Connor just sat there, stiff as a rock on the bench. He didn’t know how to respond to her when she said that. Oh well, he’ll just pay when she’s not looking then. The two hundred-dollar bills he had were already tempting to be used.
Soon enough the bus pulled up. She sat there on her phone, but hopped up with almost too much energy and immediately paid, and got on at the very back, sitting right up against the wall, and stared out at the city. Here, she looked again completely different, as the street lights flashed against her as she watched out the window. She looked dream like almost, caught in the magic of the city. She looked at the world through many different eyes and aspects just varying from moment to moment.
Connor was sat beside her, looking at her rather than the view. Once again, a weird feeling built up inside him. There was something about her… he wasn’t sure if it was her active nature or her sociopathic tendencies which made her somewhat attractive to him. It was a complex thing even for him to comprehend. He looked down at her hand and, without even asking, took her hand in his with a small smile under his mask.
“I hope you don’t mind,” he murmured, still looking at her hand as he spoke.
She blushed, the cherry hues making her ears even tinted, and she smiled. "Not at all. Your hands are soft and delicate, like a pianists. Thin and nimble. Someone with fingers like that are crafty, whether they be a seamstress, violinist, painter or even possibly a writer. Not workers hands, caked with blood and rough from using a wooden handled kitchen knife, which I've seen some people have in our rare trade. It's definitely very interesting. You're not a prey and predator like some. You're more…cat and mouse. Or see it as just another form of art, just like skulpting. You're skillful. I like that. Someone to clean up the lines of my otherwise clumsy nature." She giggled, and very nearly kissed his cheek, starting to lean towards him. She then caught herself and in a quick move put her head on his shoulder. She then adjusted her wig, reached up, and booped him with her middle finger, before she let her eyes return to staring out at the rushing city.
Connor listened quietly to what she had to say. She did have taste and he liked that. Funny how the hatred he had for her when she utterly ruined his nearly perfect execution was completely gone. He eyed her when she leaned on his shoulder, a grin forming beneath the mask he wore. She was just like him after all. Another young and sly soul looking for a place to belong. Well… maybe this was the place he belonged.
With his free hand, he reached up to his mask and took it off. He found himself looking at her as she rested on him for a while before he let out a soft smirk. His head moved forward slightly as he gave her a quick, and possibly a surprise, peck on her forehead.
She jolted a bit, caught off guard. "Hey! I'm supposed to be the tease that flusters people! How dare you table the turns on me!" (Me? Make a The Office reference? Noooo). She pouted a bit, now glaring up at him, the softly poetic moment having passed as quick as it had arrived, as she sat up, eyebrows knitting together. She was really hard to take serious when she puffed out her cheeks like that and planted her free hand on her hip in frustration. "That's unfair. And cruel. That's my job. Well, a lot of it anyways. You…you don't get to make me all shy and quiet like that! It's mean." Obviously this wasn't true, but she was feisty. Feisty and unused to being docile, or made to be gentle like that. Strangely she felt comfortable around him, like he wouldn't hurt her even if he had just tried to kill her moments earlier. She'd have to be careful, before she went falling in love.
Connor let out a soft chuckle at her words. It was immediately clear to him that she wasn’t showing truth in her words. Some may say it’s annoying how she doesn’t speak her heart but he found it quite adorable for some reason. She was in denial that she felt something… and he wanted her to accept the fact.
“Oh for god’s sake, learn to shut up for once…” he said as if he was annoyed but that expression immediately changed when his hand found her chin and lifted it up gently as he leaned down quickly to bite her on her lips softly. His other hand still rest on her hand. It clenched a bit as if he was saying he didn’t want her to go away.
After a short moment, his lips parted from hers as he opened his eyes, whispering—
“…or else I’ll have to shut it for you every now and then…” —with a grin.
She blushed and pressed down the small little whimper that seemed to escape her throat a bit. She then pulled away. "No. Deal with it. I'm quiet when I want and need to be. Which is not now. And if it pisses you off? Bonus points in my book." She then took a shallow breath, slipped her out from in his, and planted both of them on either slide of his face. She took this moment to stare into his red eyes, before leaning in and kissing him softly, gently, then pulled away. "I've decided you have another nickname. Dracula, or Vampire."
He closed his eyes when she kissed him and although he wasn’t sure if she liked him that much, he knew for a fact that at least she didn’t fully dislike him otherwise this whole excursion would not have taken place. It was hard to stop himself from kissing her when the scenery was this perfect, a midnight ride to a diner. What a scene. When his lips parted from hers, his eyes fluttered open with a small smile. His face which was mostly enveloped in the shadows of the bus’ roof was showing a blushing tone.
“Vampire works…” he answered and noticed that they were arriving at the stop they needed to get down at.
“Let’s go… we can talk about this later on…” he mentioned with a small smile which was soon covered by his mask.
"You shouldn't hide such a sharp smile. It's clever, I like it." She got up and hopped off the bus, and then turned down the street, the opposite direction the bus was driving, and then rounded a corner. She was humming, a happy glow to her face as she nearly skipped along, a lot happier with how the night had gone. She was surprised by this flurry and everything, not that she minded or anything. It was beautiful out, with all the stars seeming to shine extra bright just for her, and she had found a new lover. Someone who seemed like they could handle her. Her days going forward were going to be much different, she could tell.
Connor followed her as she walked down the dimly lit street. He stayed just steps behind her, watching her be herself. The once annoying girl he was trying to kill just earlier in the day… took his first kiss and he wasn’t mad about it. There was something about her which made his heart beat unnecessarily fast whenever she’s around. And he knew it wasn’t lust. He would’ve left it at that if he found out about his own emotions. Eventually, he stopped walking for a short moment, looking up at the moon which showed itself to be quite beautiful this wonderful night. Perhaps… he’ll drink just a bit on this special occasion. He continued to follow her, wondering where this diner was.
After a few more streets, they arrived. The sidewalk was cracked, and the lights inside were a little dim inside. The lettering was white and sort of cartoonish. 'Grandma's Homecooked Diner. The taste of memories!' Was what it read on the billboard right in the parking lot of the diner. Evelyn raced forward, and then behind some trashcans. "WAIT THERE!" She grabbed a bag from behind there, one carefully marked, and after about 10 minutes, came out with her wig off, bright pink hair now a mess. She stepped out in a pair of dark blue jeggings, and a black and white stripped t-shirt, and a plain black jacket. "I have little clothes pockets around town. Always a good thing to have." She nodded, her previous outfit stuffed in the string backpack, which now sat on her shoulders. She then raced inside, and waited patiently at the pedestal thingie to be seated, rocking on her heels.
Connor was surprised when she went somewhere but he didn’t question it. When she came back, he nodded and turned to the diner, walking inside with her. Albeit, he wasn’t usually treated to this kind of restaurant before… mostly because his payment was a considerable amount and that he lived somewhere more urban than around here. He didn’t complain though. A change of scenery was always nice. He waited beside Evelyn, instinctively slipping his hand into hers with fingers intertwined. He held her hand firmly in his, afraid of letting go.
Up came a woman with silver blue-gray hair, put up in a messy bun. She wore makeup but that didn't make it very good looking, and had a large mole on her cheek. "Why hi there sugar cubes! Sunny, how is your mother?" The woman spoke with a heavy southern drawl. "She's doing well Lucy. Happy that a lot of us have moved out and she took a break." "You on a date then?" Evelyn nodded again, and the lady gave a cheeky grin. "Then I'll get ya lovely lovebirds a booth in the back, where the lights are low, by the big window. Don't go gettin' into too much funny business, ya hear? Or I'll have to tell your mother." Evelyn laughed and followed as the woman grabbed some menu's and rolls of silverware, and walked off towards the back. Evelyn then began to explain to Conner. "Like I said earlier, my uncle owns this diner, and so me and my mom come here a lot. They're like a mini-family."
Connor nodded to her explanation though his mind was more fixed on something she agreed with earlier. Date…? So they were technically on a date now… good to know. He smiled under his mask again, averting his eyes and trying not to look at Evelyn just in case it made him blush.
“I assume they don’t know about your ex…?” He asked quietly as he looked around the place. The decor was something he wasn’t used to but… he was opening up to new things.
