Melissa came out not long after him, pulling her hair up out of her face on her way down. She had barely taken the time to do her makeup, not in the mood to try and look pretty today; her sweatpants and loose t-shirt proving it only further. “Mm, ready to go?” She asked, slinging her bag over her shoulder.
Lucas nodded, holding his hand out to take Melissa's. "Yep. Ready to go. I checked online and there's a coffee shop pretty much on the way to school."
“Mm, then you lead the way. If you’re alright with that.” Melissa hummed, taking his hand when offered his. “Oh- also, do you have money, or am I paying?”
"I have money." Lucas led Melissa out the door and started walking along the sidewalk. "And it's not too far from school."
The next few hours seemed to fly by, as Lucas and Melissa were already on their way home. Thankfully Lucas was alright— meaning he didn't get injured at practice. "Are we still going to take Cody on a walk once we get home?" Melissa asked softly, rolling her neck to try and soothe the discomfort she had from sleeping on the floor.
"Yeah, probably. I'm sure he's got tons of pent up energy." Lucas laughed softly and kissed Melissa's cheek. He was still a tad off during the day, but he seemed to have relaxed somewhat. "After we feed him, of course. He's probably hungry."
"Mhmm… and you probably are, too. Do you want a snack when we get back?" Melissa asked lightly, returning the kiss before resting her head on his shoulder. "I also need to change…"
"Sure. I'm always hungry after practice." Lucas smiled gently and held Melissa close. "Do you want anything, Mel?" He asked.
"Mm, not really. I promise you, I'm really not hungry." Melissa shrugged a little, slipping her arm around his waist with a soft smile. "I'll eat something for dinner, though. Later on."
"Alright, Mel." Lucas gently kissed her cheek again and led her into the house. "I probably need to change as well…"
"Yeah… you're kinda gross." Melissa teased a little, pulling away once they were inside. "Why don't you go do that, and I'll grab you boys both something to eat."
Lucas nodded and grabbed some clothes to change into. He figured he could shower after he had dinner. He came back out within a couple of minutes and yawned, running his fingers through his hair.
Melissa was standing in the kitchen, Cody at her feet as she filled a bowl of water for him. "I know, I know. I'm working on it." She laughed softly, pulling back enough to set the bowl down.
Lucas smiled softly when he saw her and gently kissed her cheek. "He being whiny again?" He asked?"
Melissa jumped a bit, glancing over to him before smiling. "Mm, a bit. I feel like he's only excited to see me because I feed him." She joked a bit, wrapping her arms around his neck loosely.
Lucas laughed softly. "Nah, I think he likes you. He's a sweetheart." He bent down to gently scratch behind Cody's ears.
Melissa gave a little smile, stepping back to pull a bowl from the cabinet. "If you say so… you're his favorite, though."
"Well, I try to be. He's my favorite and only son, after all." Lucas grinned. "I try my best to keep him happy."
"Why, I'm offended." Melissa pouted, glancing over to him. "I try to keep him happy, too."
Lucas laughed again and hugged Melissa tightly. "I know, I know. Dogs kinda just choose a person and latch onto them."
Melissa kept pouting, filling the bowl in her hand with crackers from the cabinet. "But it's not fair…" She whined a little, leaning back into him.
"I knooow…" Lucas nuzzled against Melissa's cheek with a gentle smile. "I don't get to control my dog's feelings, darling."
Melissa puffed her cheeks up, still pouting. “It’s still not fair…” She mumbled a bit, setting the bowl aside before turning to wrap her arms around him.
"Sorry, darling." Lucas gently kissed Melissa and rested his head on hers. "You said you wanted to change, right?"
“Mm… yeah… I was so tired this morning, I didn’t even bother to look nice.” Melissa mumbled, laughing a little. “I don’t really feel like wearing sweat pants all day.”
"Well, I think you look wonderful all the time, Mel." Lucas smiled gently and kissed her again. "Regardless of what you're wearing."
“Mmmmmmm, Lucas…” Melissa whined, burying her face into his shoulder. “Stoopppp~ I do not…”
"I think you do~" Lucas smiled a bit brighter, nuzzling against Melissa's cheek. "But if you really wanna go change, you've got the time." He laughed softly.
Melissa pulled back, giving him her pout. “Fine… give me a minute, and I’ll be right down. Your snack is on the counter- feel free to look through the fridge, though.” She mumbled a little, pecking his cheek before turning and heading up the stairs.
Lucas nodded and waved, his bright aura fading as soon as Melissa left. He took a bite of a granola bar and looked up when he heard footsteps. They sounded heavier than Melissa's, so he figured it was her father.
