"Now I sound like I don't care." Melissa laughed softly, coming up to him with a little smile. "I really do, though."
"I know you care, Mel. I'm just overdramatic. And also a very anxious person in general." He kissed Melissa softly.
Resting her arms over his shoulders, she gave him a little smile before kissing him in return. "Mm, that's true… though it still sounds like I don't care very much."
"I know how much you care, love." Lucas held Melissa close and smiled softly. "You care a hell of a lot."
“Yeah I do.” Melissa laughed softly, burying her face into his shoulder. “I wish I could show it to you more, but I’m not sure if I can.”
"Well, clearly you're showing it enough for me to notice, aren't you?" Lucas rested his head against Melissa's.
"Mm, I guess so. It just doesn't feel like it's enough, most of the time." Melissa mumbled, softly kissing him. "But if you think it is, that's all that matters."
"It's more than enough, darling. I assure you." Lucas returned the kiss and took her hand. "Wanna go look for the ball now?"
"Well, I do. But I feel bad for dragging you out into a field on another hot day." Melissa told him softly, glancing down to Cody. "If you're really okay with it, give me fifteen minutes and I'll be ready. The sooner we leave, the cooler it'll be."
"I'll be okay. We can bring water bottles if you're worried about it. We're getting ice cream after anyway." Lucas let go of Melissa so she could get ready.
“Mm, true. If you’re ready before I am, would you mind grabbing water?” Melissa asked lightly, starting to pull back so she could head upstairs.
"Mhmm." Lucas pulled off his hoodie once he left the kitchen and rummaged through his bag to find something cooler to wear.
Melissa has been as quick as she could to get ready, coming down the stairs a little over fifteen minutes later. She was carrying a pair of sandals in one hand, and leaning on the railing to the stairs with the other as she made her way down. "Lu? I'm ready to go."
Lucas looked up from the couch. He was dressed, ready, and had the water bottles. He also clipped Cody's leash to his collar. "Great! Let's get going, then."
Melissa smiled lightly, quickly sliding her shoes on when her feet hit the living room floor. "Sorry I took longer. I couldn't find shoes."
"No problem." Lucas stood up and lifted Cody over the barrier. He handed Melissa a water bottle when he headed over to her.
"Thanks, Lu." Melissa hummed, tucking the water bottle under her arm to kiss him. "I also told my dad we were heading out. So we're good to go."
"Sounds good to me." Lucas returned the kiss and led Melissa out the door. "It's a little less hot out today."
Melissa gave a light smile, holding his hand as they walked. "It is also nine-thirty, and the sun hasn't gotten very high. As soon as noon hits, I won't be surprised if it gets really hot."
"True. Let's enjoy this while it lasts, though. It's a lot more tolerable." Lucas hummed softly as they walked.
"Mhmm. Honestly, this is why I don't like the heat. It's kind of gross." Melissa laughed a little, glancing down to Cody who seemed pretty excited.
"Yeah. It's not fun when you're exercising." Lucas laughed as well. "I get really gross. Especially if I'm all in the dirt during practice."
"Mhmm. Honestly I should bring water balloons to throw at you. It'd cool you off, and clean you." Melissa smiled lightly, pulling ahead.
Lucas snickered a bit. "Might be a bit distracting, though. You're welcome to try it if you want to, though."
"What? Me? Distracting you?" Melissa asked sarcastically, smirking a little. "I would never."
Lucas kissed Melissa softly. "Yeah, yeah. I'm sure you wouldn't." He kept walking with her, humming softly.
"You don't sound very genuine." Melissa laughed a little, sticking her tongue out at him. "I don't think you believe me."
"Mm. Should I believe you?" He asked, laughing a bit. "You tend to be a bit of a tease, darling." Cody trotted asking ahead of them.
"Why, I find that quite hurtful. My own boyfriend doesn't trust me." Melissa sighed dramatically, pulling away from him just a bit.
"Aww, I never said I don't trust you. I just think that you would definitely throw water balloons at me." Lucas pulled Melissa close to kiss her.
