Melissa smiled lightly, nuzzling in to his shoulder. "Oh- thank you for carrying me. And putting up with my whining." She mumbled a little, lifting her head a little.
Melissa smiled lightly, nuzzling in to his shoulder. "Oh- thank you for carrying me. And putting up with my whining." She mumbled a little, lifting her head a little.
"No problem, Mel." Lucas nuzzled into Melissa's hair, smiling gently. Cody was fast asleep by now.
"I really mean it." Melissa whispered as she lifted her head. "You totally shouldn't have to put up with me."
"Think of it as a repayment for all of my shit that you put up with." Lucas kissed Melissa's cheek softly.
“Mm, I don’t like to think like that. You’re not something to deal with. I like taking care of you.” Melissa told him softly, leaning in to his kiss.
"And I like taking care of you, Mel." Lucas smiled gently and closed his eyes again.
"Mm, but I don't want you to have to." Melissa mumbled, curling up closer. "You've got yourself and a puppy to."
"I don't want you to have to take care of me either, love." Lucas held Melissa close and sighed quietly.
Melissa huffed, looking up at him. "You're so difficult sometimes, you know that?" She asked him lightly.
"Mhmm~" Lucas grinned cheekily, kissing Melissa again. "It's one of my specialties, milady."
"It's frustrating…" Melissa pouted, before leaning in and kissing him in return. "I just want to take care of you, and love you."
"And I want to take care of you too, Mel. You deserve to be helped and cared for and loved just as much as I do."
"Yeah- but you need it more than I do. After everything you've lived through, you're honestly more important to me." Melissa insisted, looking up to him. "It just doesn't seem right to ask you for help."
"Just because I've been through the wringer doesn't mean that you don't deserve help, love."
Melissa sighed softly, staring out at her wall. "I know that, but it feels wrong to ask you for help. I don't want you to put more pressure on yourself. Especially because of me."
Lucas shrugged. "But you help me so much already. I'd be an asshole if I never helped you in return."
"I- I mean-" Melissa stammered a little, unable to come up with a further argument. "Yeah, a little… but I really don't want to make you feel like you have to. I can take care of myself."
"And so can I, technically. But that doesn't mean neither of us ever need help." Lucas shrugged a bit.
"I… I guess you're right." Melissa mumbled a little, caving in to him. "I just… I feel bad asking you for anything."
"And I feel bad asking you, Mel. It's something we both need to work on. There's no shame in needing help sometimes."
"But I always feel like a bother, to everyone. You, my other friends. I always insist I can do it by myself, I'm scared they'll walk away if I actually need them…" Melissa stated weakly, looking up to him. "It's stupid, I know."
"I feel the same way Mel, and I just… I want you to know that I'll never abandon you. I'll always be here for you when you need help."
"Really?" Melissa asked softly, knowing the answer. "You really mean it? You promise?"
"I promise, Melissa. You can always count on me. Call me or text me if you ever need me and I'm too far to yell at."
A soft smile pulled up, and she laughed a little. "I'll do that. Though I'd rather avoid yelling at you." Melissa hummed softly, nuzzling in to his hold with a soft sigh.
"Yeah, I'd probably prefer it as well. I don't generally do well with yelling." Lucas kissed Melissa softly.
"Then I'll make an effort not to." Melissa smiled, kissing him in return. "I don't ever like yelling at anyone, so it shouldn't be too hard."
"Mhmm. And I don't remember the last time I yelled, honestly. I'm generally pretty soft-spoken. Well… sometimes I'm a little louder when I'm given instructions to the guys for baseball, but I'm not like, yelling at them."
"Yeah, you're just projecting. Being loud, without offending anyone." Melissa offered as she felt a wave of tiredness crash over her. "Mm… are you gonna stay if I fall asleep?"
"I can if you want me to, but I was probably going to go back to the couch to make sure your mom doesn't get mad…"
