"Lucas, really?" Melissa asked lightly, still playing with his hair. "Knowing or thinking people love and care about you, is not conceited. Not in my opinion, at least."
"Lucas, really?" Melissa asked lightly, still playing with his hair. "Knowing or thinking people love and care about you, is not conceited. Not in my opinion, at least."
Lucas nodded weakly, keeping his eyes closed. "Sorry… I'm weird, aren't I? It's normal to assume people don't hate you?"
Melissa shrugged a little, trying to word her sentence before saying it. "I mean, the best people are weird. So, I mean yeah, you're a little different. But is that a bad thing?"
Lucas shrugged. "I dunno… I feel like a lot of what I do is strange because of how I was raised up and treated up until now."
"But it's not necessarily bad. Just different from what people expect." Melissa pointed out in a soft tone, resting her head on his shoulder. "You're unique."
"I guess so…" Lucas gently kissed Melissa's cheek and sighed. "I'm making this a way bigger deal than it needs to be."
"A little, yeah." Melissa hummed lightly, leaning in to his kiss. "But it's no big deal. Everyone is a little weird in their own way, and you're apart of everyone. Can we agree that much?"
Lucas nodded and closed his eyes, huddling close. "Yeah… I think we're almost home, right?" He asked.
"Probably, yeah." Melissa replied in a soft tone, glancing out the window. "It looks like it to me."
Lucas looked out the window as well and nodded again. "Yep. Looks like it."
"Mm… you know, now that I think about it," Melissa started in a soft tone, biting on her lip as she thought. "We kind of need something to feed the little guy."
"Yeah, we need to go to the pet store. Food, collar, leash, toys… that kinda thing. We're gonna need all of it."
Melissa paused, checking her back pocket for her wallet. Pulling it out, she glanced through it with a nervous look. "Well, let's hope it isn't too much. I don't really have much."
"I have some money, Melissa. I'm not letting you pay for everything." Lucas rubbed behind the puppy's ears and sighed.
"But- Lucas…" Melissa tried to argue back, lifting her head to look at him. "I don't want you having to pay."
"And I don't want you going broke for my sake. I have a job, Mel. I can earn money back. I'll be okay." Lucas smiled softly.
Falling quiet, Melissa let out a soft sigh as she pocketed her wallet. After a couple of seconds of silence she nodded a little. "Yeah… if you're sure."
"I'm sure, Melissa. When do you want to go? It'll have to be pretty soon…" Lucas looked down at the puppy, humming thoughtfully.
"Ummm," Melissa paused, pulling her phone out of her pocket to check the time. "I'm actually kind of hungry… could we grab a little something before going?"
"Yeah, that's perfectly fine. The pet store isn't far, so we can walk. Do you have anything we could use as a makeshift leash?"
"I'm sure I have something. We can look up in my room, or something." Melissa hummed a little, seeing her house as they turned the corner.
Lucas nodded. "Rope, maybe? We'd have to make sure it wouldn't hurt him at all, obviously… um…"
"If we do it around his waist, it wouldn't choke him." Melissa offered softly, reaching over to pet the puppy. "Or we could come up with some other solution."
"Yeah… I'm sure we'll figure something out." The puppy yawned and stretched out his paws again.
Melissa had went to respond, but only giggled when the puppy stretched. "He's so cute…" She grinned brightly, scratching behind the puppy's ears.
"He really is… I think he'll enjoy a trip to the pet store. We can put the collar and leash on him once we find them there."
"Mhmm… would we get one with his name on it?" Melissa asked softly, keeping up her smile. "Or just a basic one?"
"Well, he'll have a name tag, but the collar and leash don't need to be anything fancy." Lucas shrugged.
"M'kay. Makes sense." Melissa hummed as she continued to scratch the puppy. "You're gonna have to help me out, I haven't had a dog before."
"Alright, Mel. To be fair, when we got our dog, I was too little to be a huge part of the whole 'purchasing things' process, but I'll try my best."
