"Sounds good to me, Mel." Lucas flipped his sketchbook open to a fresh page and started doodling idly.
Smiling softly, she stood up straight before kicking her shoes off. Once she had them in her hand, she sauntered to and up the stairs.
Lucas found himself doodling the chocolate lab puppies that they were going to see in just a couple of hours. He pulled up the picture on his phone and used it for reference.
Melissa hummed to herself lightly, dropping her shoes by the door. After grabbing her earbuds off her desk she unraveled them before walking out of her room.
Lucas had a basic outline of a couple of puppies by the time Melissa returned and was starting on a third, humming softly to himself.
Having her earbuds in place, she sat down on the couch as well. "Puppies?" Melissa hummed a little, not sure if he would respond.
Lucas nodded a bit and continued, adding two more puppy sketches before he started working on details.
"Mm, cute." Melissa told him lightly, scooting back so she was leaning against the arm of the couch.
(Do we want to skim over the next little bit?)
(Sure lol)
Lucas kept drawing for a while until he heard his phone go off. He'd set a reminder to let him know when it was time to leave. "Mel, it's 2:30."
Having been half asleep, it took her a second for her to remember she had been listening to music. Pulling her earbuds out, she gave him an odd look. "Hmm?"
"It's 2:30. Would you mind grabbing your dad?" He asked. "We'll want to leave soon."
"O-oh… yeah." Melissa hummed, yawning a bit before starting to get off the couch. "You need anything before we head out?"
Lucas shook his head and closed his sketchbook. "No, I'm alright." He stood up, running his fingers through his hair with a soft sigh.
“Mm’kay.” Melissa nodded a little, wrapping her arms around his waist. “Love you, Lucas.” She purred softly, holding on to him tightly.
"Love you too, Mel." Lucas kissed Melissa softly and returned the hug. "Thank you again, darling."
"Thank you for what?" Melissa asked, taking his hand and lightly pulling him along. "Sorry, my brain is slow right now."
"Puppies, darling." Lucas kissed Melissa's cheek and grinned. "Now we just gotta grab your dad so he can drive us."
"Oh- right." Melissa laughed lightly, leading him up the stairs. "I'm pretty sure he's upstairs. But I was half asleep for awhile, so he may have come down stairs." She rambled a little, knowing she should have checked the kitchen first.
"I wasn't paying any attention, so I have no idea." Lucas followed Melissa upstairs, his smile softening a bit.
"Well, I need my shoes anyways." Melissa shrugged before lightly knocking on the office door. When she heard a soft "come in", she gently pushed the door open and smiled. "Hey, dad."
Lucas stayed in the doorway as usual. For some reason, he always felt like he shouldn't go inside.
"Oh- hey you two. Is it time to go get Lucas's birthday present?" Mr. Brennahan asked lightly, getting up from his seat. "Yes sir. If you're okay with that." Melissa hummed a little, glancing back at Lucas. "I'm ready if you two are. Let's get this show on the road, yeah?" He smiled softly, gesturing for them to lead on.
Lucas flushed a bit and nodded, stepping back to get out of Melissa's way. "H-How's your day been, sir?" He asked awkwardly, seeming a tad nervous.
Mr. Brennahan gave him a light smile when asked the question. "It's been alright. Pretty quiet since everyone left, but I've managed. What about you?" He asked lightly, watching as Melissa came back with shoes on her feet, and started down the stairs.
"Um… pretty good sir, thank you." Lucas trailed after Melissa and her father, fidgeting nervously. "It's felt very busy even though we haven't done a whole lot."
"I understand that. It's probably because you two were hanging around each other, so it feels busier than it is." Mr. Brennahan hummed a little, walking up to the key rack. Pulling off his keys, he glanced back at the two. "Can I get the address, for the house?"
"Y-Yes, sir… I'll send it to you…" Lucas sent the address to Mr. Brennahan and walked out the door with him and Melissa. "It's not very far…"
Taking a glance at the address, Mr. Brennahan nodded before shutting and locking the door. "Alright, that's convenient." He hummed a little, unlocking the car and getting in the front seat. Before Lucas could get in, Melissa took his arm to stop him. "When did you get my dad's phone number?" She asked softly, giving him an off look.
"I got it from him at some point during the day I fell down the stairs… in case I needed to call him for an emergency or something." Lucas shrugged. "I wasn't too surprised since he seemed to be pretty worried."
"Right, that makes sense." Melissa nodded a little, gently kissing his cheek before getting in the back seat. "Just curious."
