"Um… I dunno, honestly. I just… really like being able to hold onto you and stuff." Lucas shrugged, flushing a bit.
"Um… I dunno, honestly. I just… really like being able to hold onto you and stuff." Lucas shrugged, flushing a bit.
"Mm'kay…" Melissa hummed lightly, pecking his cheek. "I just wanted to make sure everything was alright."
"Yeah, I'm okay…" Lucas rested his head on Melissa's shoulder and sighed. "I just feel safer with you near me… n-not that I feel unsafe at the moment or anything, I just…"
Lifting her head a little, she gave a light smile. "Hey, I know what you mean. It's just nice to have someone close by." Melissa hummed her reassurance, leaning against him.
Lucas nodded a bit and lay his head atop Melissa's. "Yeah… then I know that you're here and that you're safe."
"Mhmm… you don't have to worry." Melissa whispered, reaching out to take his hand. "I promise I'll do my best to stay safe."
"Thanks, Mel…" Lucas laced his fingers with Melissa's and kissed her cheek softly. "Sorry for being so needy."
"Mm, you don't need to be. I like getting to take care of you." Melissa hummed lightly, keeping her hold on his hand tight.
"But you shouldn't have to take care of me." Lucas sighed. "I'm seventeen… I should be able to handle myself at this point, but I kinda can't."
"First of all, you just turned seventeen. Second, you're technically still a kid. You don't have to have your life together. Let me do that part for you." Melissa hummed a little, lifting her head to look at him when she spoke. "I certainly don't have my life put together. So why should you have to?"
"But you're younger than I am… you shouldn't have to help me get my life together…" Lucas sighed again and buried his face in Melissa's shoulder. "I'm almost an adult and I've got next to no clue what I'm doing or what I'm going to do."
"That's not entirely true. We know that we're moving in together. You'll probably have to get a better job once you're out of school." Melissa told him softly, running her fingers through his hair. "We don't have to think about it quite yet, though. We've still got this and next year to work things out."
"Mmmmm…" Lucas leaned his head into Melissa's hand a bit. "Adulthood sounds like shit… we gotta do more taxes than we already do and stuff. All you do is work, and we already work constantly…"
"But think about it, once we get through our twenties it shouldn't be too awful. We'll be used to it, making things much simpler." Melissa offered lightly, leaning in to kiss him softly. "And if you find a job you enjoy, it's not really work, now is it?"
Lucas sighed softly. "I guess… it's just… it's hard to wait that long. I've already been trying to fix myself for years, and soon I'm going to be eighteen and I'll have even more shit thrown my way."
"But," Melissa started, pulling his hand up to her lips. "I'll be there with you. I'll stand by your side, and help you. Things will be easier if we do them together, don't you think?"
Lucas nodded a bit and looked up at Melissa meekly. "I know, I know… I'm sorry. I'm being whiny again…"
“You’re alright, Lu. I understand your worries.” Melissa hummed, pecking his lips softly with a smile.
Lucas nodded again and returned the kiss. "Thanks, Mel…" He sighed softly. "I'm really lucky to have you."
“Mmmm…. I want to argue otherwise, but I don’t feel like it right now.” Melissa hummed, nosing him softly. “I love you a lot.”
"Love you too." Lucas gently kissed Melissa and closed his eyes with a contented sigh. "How long do you wanna stay here?"
Resting her head on his shoulder, she glanced up at him with a smile. “Preferably, as long as we can.”
Lucas nodded a bit. "Well, we'll probably want to be back by around 2:30ish so we'll have enough time to get to the house by 3:00."
“Mhmm… sounds like a good idea.” Melissa smiled lightly, kissing the tip of his nose. “And then we can also grab lunch.”
"Yep. I'm not sure what time it is now, but we can probably stick around for a little while."
“Last I remember, it was around eleven o’clock when we left. So by now it’s probably about eleven thirty.” Melissa mumbled her response, sighing softly.
Lucas nodded a bit. "We might have to do some exploring then so I don't fall asleep."
Melissa smiled lightly, starting to pull away from him. “Oh probably a good idea. But you’re not allowed to get hurt. I told my dad I wouldn’t let you.”
"Alright, alright. I'll try my best." Lucas grinned cheekily and got to his feet, holding out one hand to help Melissa up.
“You better, young man.” Melissa scolded, pulling herself up with his hand. Though she was grinning as she did, clearly not too serious. “Or else you’re gonna have to deal with the consequences.”
