"Careful you two," Melissa laughed, her mood seemingly increased from the few minutes outside. "We don't want anyone getting hurt."
"Careful you two," Melissa laughed, her mood seemingly increased from the few minutes outside. "We don't want anyone getting hurt."
"Yeah, yeah." Lucas sat up and pulled a tennis ball out of the box. "You want this, Cody? Hmm? You want it? Go get it!" He threw the tennis ball and Cody sprinted after it, panting.
"Careful not to throw it too far, Lu. With that baseball arm of yours, it might end up in the neighbour's yard." Melissa teased as she dropped down next to Lucas. "We don't want to lose him, or it."
Lucas stuck his tongue out playfully. "I'll be careful, Mel. Don't worry." Cody soon returned with the ball and Lucas tossed it again.
"Alright, I'm just warning you." Melissa smiled lightly, leaning over to kiss him. "How many times do you think you'll throw it, before wearing him out?"
"Not sure. I guess just until he seems tired. You can throw it too if you want." Lucas retrieved the ball from Cody and held it out to Melissa.
Melissa smiled, taking the ball from him. Tossing it out, she watched Cody run off right after it. "I didn't know if you had a guess or not. Just curious."
"No idea, darling." Lucas rested his head on Melissa's shoulder, sighing softly. Cody ran out after the ball and soon returned again.
Picking up the ball, she smiled lightly as she tossed it out for Cody to chase after. "Mm, you still tired after your nap?"
"A little, but I'm kinda always tired." Lucas shrugged a bit and watched Melissa play with Cody, smiling softly.
"That's true… you're pretty much always up for taking a nap." Smiling a little to herself, she continued tossing the ball for Cody whenever he brought it back.
"Mhmm…" Lucas yawned a bit and continued to watch, gently lacing his fingers with Melissa's.
After a little bit, Melissa notice Cody was slowing down when he brought it back. "Looks like I wore him out. I should probably get him some water."
"Mm… I can do it." Lucas got up, brushed himself off, and headed back inside. He wasn't sure if Melissa's parents were still arguing upstairs or not.
Melissa watched him go with a smile, reaching out to ruffle Cody’s fur. When Lucas entered their house, nothing could be heard upstairs, but Mr. Brennahan rarely ever yelled. So that wasn’t much of a surprise.
Lucas filled a bowl with water from the sink and soon returned outside with it. He set it on the ground and Cody started drinking it eagerly.
“Looks like he really was thirsty. We’ll have to feed him later, too.” Melissa hummed, getting up and brushing herself off.
"Yep…" Lucas yawned a bit and stretched. "He's probably hungry. We can wait until he's done with that, though."
"Mm, alright." Melissa hummed, coming up and wrapping her arms around his waist from behind. "For the time being, I can snuggle up with my boyfriend."
Lucas flushed a bit and nodded, turning around to hug Melissa as well. "If you insist, darling…"
"We don't have to. But I want a hug at least." Melissa hummed softly, resting her head on his chest. "Maybe a kiss, if you'll give it to me."
"Sure, love." Lucas tilted Melissa's chin up and kissed her softly. "How's that?" He asked, smiling a bit.
"Mm, not bad." Melissa grinned, standing on her toes to return the kiss. "It can suffice for now."
"Well, you're welcome to more if you want them, darling." Lucas kissed Melissa again, holding her close and lingering longer.
After a couple of seconds, she pulled back a little. "Y'know… I think that one was better…" Melissa mumbled, giving him a little smile.
"Me too." Lucas rested his head against Melissa's and sighed softly. "I love you…" He murmured.
"Funny thing is, I think I love you too." Melissa smiled, still holding on tightly to him. "Quite a bit, at that."
"Mm…" Lucas pulled Melissa a bit closer and kissed her cheek. "That's good to hear, darling…"
Resting her head on his shoulder, she let out a soft sigh of content. "I'll say it whenever you need to hear it. I really do love you." She insisted softly as she started to rock back and forth.
"Well, feel free to tell me whenever you want. There's always a good chance that it's something I need to hear. And I'll do the same for you, darling."
