Glancing over to the counter, she picked up a cup and handed it to him. "Lemonade, Sprite, sweet tea, and obviously water. Any of those sound appealing?"
Glancing over to the counter, she picked up a cup and handed it to him. "Lemonade, Sprite, sweet tea, and obviously water. Any of those sound appealing?"
"Lemonade is fine with me." Lucas poured himself some and leaned against the counter while he drank it.
Filling her own cup up with water, she glanced over at him. "Did I make a mistake? Should I just have had something for dinner?" Melissa asked softly, her smile dropping a little. "Be honest with me."
"It's alright, Mel… I'm pretty overwhelmed by everything, to be honest, but I'm not angry with you."
"You're sure?" Melissa asked softly, trying to keep a calm composure. "It's only for like an hour or so. I promise it isn't for long."
"Yeah, I'll be alright, darling." Lucas kissed Melissa softly and took another sip of his lemonade. "I just wasn't expecting so many people to be here."
"Well, I wasn't exactly planning as many people to be here. But oh well. A few extra people can't be too much damage." Melissa hummed a little, feeling relieved he was alright.
"Mhmm." Lucas finished his glass of lemonade and put the cup in the sink to wash later.
"You wanna go outside? Or do you wanna wait?" Melissa asked him, setting her water glass aside as well. Pulling the fridge open, she put the leftover box in it so she didn't have to carry it anymore.
"Um… we can go outside. That's fine." Lucas stretched a bit, his back cracking when he did.
Melissa winced a little, before taking his hand. "Come on, we'll get you somewhere quieter." She hummed a little, pulling him along.
"Mmkay." Lucas allowed Melissa to pull him along, keeping quiet as she led him outside.
Once she pushed the back door open, she felt a soft smile creep up. It was really nice outside, with warm lights strung up around the yard to illuminate it when it was dark out. "He did a good job… it's so pretty out here."
Lucas smiled softly as well as he looked around. "Yeah… it's really nice." He kissed Melissa's cheek softly.
Melissa smiled in return, leading him off the back porch. "It won't surprise me if people start coming out back. If you need a break, you can always go up to my bedroom."
"Mhmm. Might take you up on that." Lucas sighed softly, following Melissa off the porch. "I'm alright for now, though."
"You're sure? You seem… off to me." Melissa noted, stopping in her tracks. Turning around to face him, she gently took his other hand and looked up at him. "If you want me to send people home, I can do that."
"No, no, I'm okay. You don't need to send anyone home. I just mean that I might need a break from all the festivities at some point."
Sighing softly, she nodded a little before pulling him into a hug. "Alright… but tell me if I can do anything. I love you."
"I love you too, Mel." Lucas returned the hug, gently kissing Melissa's cheek. "Sorry for complicating things…"
"Don't be sorry. I was just overly excited, and should have thought things through." Melissa mumbled, before burying her face into his shoulder.
"It's alright, Mel… I'm not mad." Lucas rested his head against Melissa's and sighed softly, closing his eyes.
"I still feel like an idiot. I should have known better." Melissa mumbled, not speaking everything she was thinking.
"Melissa, it's alright. I'm not at all upset with you." Lucas kissed Melissa softly. "It's okay."
"Not even a little bit? You're seriously, and honestly, not mad at me at all?" Pulling back, she gave him a look of disbelief. "I find that hard to believe."
"I'm really not mad, Melissa. Please don't blame yourself… it's fine." Lucas sighed as he looked at Melissa.
Letting out a soft sigh, she nodded softly. "Alright. If you say so." Melissa told him, not continuing the conversation.
"I do say so." Lucas gently kissed Melissa and looked out at the backyard again. "When are the others coming out?"
As if on cue, a couple others were on their way outside, seemingly in a good mood. "Looks like now. You gonna be alright?"
"Mhmm." Lucas stepped out of the way of the door so he wouldn't be in anyone's way. "I'll be fine."
