Lucas shrugged again. "The pain will go away naturally after a while… but for now, I need meds to keep it at bay. God, I've grown soft…"
Lucas shrugged again. "The pain will go away naturally after a while… but for now, I need meds to keep it at bay. God, I've grown soft…"
“Haven’t you always been kind of soft?” Melissa asked a little, nuzzling her nose against his cheek gently. “I don’t mean that in a bad way.”
"Not in terms of pain tolerance. Emotionally? Yes. I've always been pretty sensitive. But physically? I've spent years at my dad's house dealing with way worse pain than this without any meds. Now it seems like I need them for every little thing."
(Lucas: has a concussion and fell down the stairs God I'm so fucking weak for taking Tylenol)
(The poor child)
“You needed them before, you just didn’t have them.” Melissa said softly, pecking his cheek gently once they made it up the stairs. “And besides, you’re not weak. You literally have a concussion. Don’t be so hard on yourself.”
Lucas sighed softly. "I just feel like I should be able to manage without, but that's not working very well for me…"
“I mean, there’s no real reason to go without them now. You’ve got them right at your finger tips.” Melissa told him softly, pushing her bedroom door open. “It seems silly not to have them. I don’t want you staying in pain.”
"Yeah…" Lucas sighed softly and flopped down on the bed, exhausted and in pain. "I'm gonna shower after dinner. Hopefully I don't die."
"You're not going to die. If you need to, you can take a bath instead." Melissa hummed, sitting on the edge next to him. Reaching out, she started to gently run her fingers through his hair.
"Yeah… that might be a better idea." Lucas sighed softly and leaned into Melissa's hand, relaxing further.
“Might be. I don’t want you falling and getting hurt- more than you already are.” Melissa hummed, leaning down to kiss his forehead. “I’ll go get you that medicine.”
"Mmkay, Mel…" Lucas huddled up on the bed and grit his teeth, tense and shaky from the pain.
Quickly she went, and got him some Tylenol and a glass of water to drink with it. Once she was back upstairs Melissa brought over both the water and medicine. “See if this helps.”
"Mmkay…" Lucas sat up a bit and managed to swallow the pills. "Do I need to eat something or am I okay since I had lunch a couple hours ago?"
“I think you should be fine. You only really need to eat if you haven’t in awhile.” Melissa hummed, shrugging just a little bit. “Besides, I just came back up here. If I was really worried, I’d go get you food. But I’m not, and don’t feel like going back down there.”
Lucas nodded and lay back down, seemingly a bit reassured. "I hope coach isn't too mad at me for getting hurt…" He sighed.
"Did you throw the baseball at your face?" Melissa asked him, loosely crossing her arms over her chest. "Or did you purposely throw yourself in front of the ball, so you would get a concussion?"
"W-Well, I… no, but… b-but I was… I probably did something wrong!"
"Hey-" Melissa started softly, looking back at him. "You didn't do anything. You just played the game."
Lucas sighed, staring up at the ceiling blankly. "If I hadn't looked over my shoulder, the ball would've just hit my helmet… I probably would've been dazed for a minute or two, but I'd have been fine."
Melissa dropped her face in her hands, trying not to get frustrated. 'He's just frustrated with himself. Don't make this a big deal.' She told herself before sucking in a deep breath and looking over at him. "It was an accident. Those happen. I'm sure it was just all bad timing."
Lucas nodded reluctantly. "I guess so… I can't help but feel like it's partially my fault, though…" He sighed a bit. I'm probably bothering her with all my whining…
"Maybe it is. But we can't exactly tell, now can we?" Melissa hummed, laying back on the bed with him. Turning her head to the side, she leaned in and placed a kiss on his cheek.
Lucas winced a bit and returned the kiss, turning his head to face Melissa. "I guess not…" He sighed softly.
Resting a hand over her stomach, she smiled softly when he started to cave. "So you can't blame yourself, correct?" Melissa asked him in a soft tone.
Lucas fidgeted nervously for a few seconds. "…I guess not…" He sighed again and closed his eyes.
"Mhm, like I said, it isn't your fault. It was just bad timing." Melissa told him softly as she leaned in to kiss his lips softly. "Now, should I let you sleep until dinner?"
"Probably so." Lucas smiled weakly and shifted to be more comfortable. "Hopefully this concussion goes away soon…"
"I wish I could cuddle with you…" Melissa mumbled with a light pout, as she slowly started to get off the bed. "But I probably shouldn't."
"Mm… yeah…" Lucas sighed and sat up when Melissa stood. "A hug probably wouldn't hurt, though."
Glancing back, she felt a smile creep up. "That would be nice… though you didn't have to sit up." Melissa said softly as she stepped back to him.
