Lucas flushed harder and hesitated before eating the ice cream, struggling to make eye contact with Melissa.
Melissa sighed softly, glancing away from him herself. “If I’m bothering you with this, just say so. I’m really sorry if I am.”
"I-I dunno, I just… it feels… strange… it makes me kinda nervous, but I don't know why…" Lucas fidgeted a bit, still very red. He didn't want to upset Melissa, obviously, but he wasn't really sure how he felt about this.
Nodding a little bit, Melissa dropped her shoulders a bit. “Well, if you want me to stop, say so. Though if this is about my mom, I don’t want you to worry. Right now, she should still be at work.” She told him, scooping up a little more ice cream to feed him.
Lucas hesitated before accepting it. "I just think… I'm not used to this… I-I dunno, I… I'm… kinda used to being ignored? Um… I don't think anyone's done this to me since I was really little… I'm not quite sure how to… um… how to feel about it…" He stammered.
Melissa gave him a light smile, cupping his cheek with her free hand. “Well, I can do it more often then. Try to get use to it, so you’re more relaxed. I care about you, and want you to be alright.” She told him softly, pressing a gentle kiss to his forehead.
Lucas sighed and nodded a bit, closing his eyes and trying to relax. He knew he was overthinking, which didn't surprise him, but it definitely made him a lot more uncomfortable with the situation.
“I can stop for now, though.” Melissa offered you him, pulling back just a little bit. “I can just sit here, if you’d prefer.”
Lucas nodded a bit. "Y-Yeah, that'd be nice…" He kept his eyes closed since he'd found that it made his head hurt a bit less.
“Then I’ll do that.” Melissa told him in a soft tone, setting the ice cream aside. Once she was settled, she reached out to hold his free hand. “Can I still do this?”
"Mhmm…" Lucas laced his fingers with Melissa's and relaxed a bit, keeping his eyes closed. "I love you…" He murmured softly.
Smiling a little, she gently ran her thumb over his hand. “And I love you. A lot.” Melissa told him, watching him lay there.
Lucas turned onto his side and sighed softly. "Not a big fan of concussions… would not recommend…"
Melissa laughed lightly, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. "Well, in a little bit I'll let you sleep off the pain. I don't want you dying on me, right now, though."
"Mmkay… I'll have to shower in the morning… I dunno if I'm allowed to go to school tomorrow, actually. You're usually not supposed to with concussions, but I don't really wanna miss school…"
"I know you don't want to, but you might have to. I can get you your homework, and tell your coach you'll be absent." Melissa said softly, pushing back on the bed.
"Mmm… but it's only the first day of school… I can't miss the second…" Lucas sighed softly. "I won't play baseball or anything, but I gotta go…"
"If you can't walk, or you're throwing up, no you don't." Melissa said softly, leaning over and kissing his forehead. "You'll have to miss it."
Lucas huffed indignantly. "I'll be fiiine… it's not even that bad, honestly…"
“Light hurts your eyes, you couldn’t walk into my house without falling down, and you look… not so great either.” Melissa told him softly, gently squeezing his hand. “I really, really don’t want you to go if it’s like this tomorrow.”
Lucas sighed softly. "Fine, fine… but then I couldn't see you all day…" He whined, pouting a bit.
Melissa smiled softly, leaning down and kissing his forehead. “I love you, so I don’t want you going and passing out in school.” She hummed, giving him a soft look.
"I've done it before… it's not that bad. They let you sleep in the nurse's office." Lucas shrugged a bit. "Technically if you're really desperate to skip class, it works."
“Lu…” Melissa sighed weakly. “I don’t want you going to school. I want you to be getting better, here at the house.”
Lucas sighed in reply. "Fine, fine… bring me notes in the classes we have together, alright? I doubt we'll have too much work on the second day of school, but you never know… you'll have to tell Laura what happened. I was supposed to talk to her tomorrow morning."
“I can do both of those.” Melissa said softly, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. “I’ll happily do that, as long as you promise to stay in bed and don’t try to get up.”
"Well, I'm gonna shower, but I'll try my best to stay still as much as possible." Lucas laced his fingers with Melissa's and sighed.
“Well, I can’t argue that. Speaking of which, I need to shower before bed tonight.” Melissa hummed, lying down next to him. “I’ll bring your bag upstairs, so you don’t have to try and go get it tomorrow.”
"Alright, thanks Mel…" Lucas looked over at Melissa weakly. "I still don't like the idea of you sleeping on the couch."
“I’ll be fine. I can manage a night or two.” Melissa insisted, glancing over at him with a soft smile. “I can take a turn sleeping on the couch. You sleep there all the time.”
