Lucas whimpered quietly and closed his eyes, still breathing shakily. He wasn't quite present enough to talk yet.

"I'm right here when you need me." Melissa whispered as she linked their fingers. She was mostly just trying to make him unable to hurt himself.
Lucas nodded and gripped Melissa tightly with the same goal in the back of his mind. "It h-hurts…" He whispered.
"What does, can I fix it?" Melissa asked him, running her thumb over his knuckles. "I don't want you to be hurting."
"C-Choking me… ropes… it burns…" He curled up a bit more tightly and exhaled shakily. "H-He's bleeding… I'm bleeding…"
"Lucas, you're not bleeding… it was just a dream. There's no rope, I promise you." Melissa whispered, adjusting herself so she could look down at him. "You're going to be okay."
"It hurts, Mel… I'm s-scared… I don't w… don't wanna hurt myself, Mel…" He tightened his grip on her again.
"I don't know how to help you… I really want to though." Melissa whispered, wincing at the grip he used on her hand. "I can do whatever you need me to."
"I c-can't sleep… I always see them… I'm so tired, Mel…" He whispered shakily in reply. "It feels so real…"
"I know… I really want to help you." Melissa repeated, feeling a knot once again. "Do… do you wanna try seeing how much a therapist costs? Would that help?"
Lucas shrugged. "Expensive… I know I can't afford it…" He sighed shakily.
"But we might be able to." Melissa insisted as she pulled her phone out. "I'm at least going to look."
"Mmkay…" Lucas huddled close to Melissa, still very unsettled and upset, though he seemed a little more grounded.
"Do you need anything? Something to eat, or drink first?" Melissa asked softly, holding on to him still as she looked up local therapists.
"Mmm… maybe later… don't wanna get up…" He loosened his grip on Melissa a bit so he wasn't hurting her.
"You don't have to, but if you don't want anything…" Melissa mumbled to herself mostly, still scrolling. "I have a feeling you just wanna stay home today?"
"Probably… might wanna go to the park… I feel safer there…" Lucas closed his eyes and sighed again.
"Then we can do that, if you want." Melissa whispered, glancing down to him. "Whatever you want. I'm happy to oblige."
"Mmkay, Mel… where are your parents?" He asked softly. "Us being all cuddled up like this is probably suspicious…"
"Last I heard, they were still asleep upstairs." Melissa hummed, clicking her phone off. She would look later, there was no point now. "I don't want to get up yet, though. I like snuggling… you're comfortable too."
Lucas nodded and shifted a bit to be more comfortable. "We can get up later… hopefully we don't get murdered…"
"My parents can be strict, but they're not that bad." Melissa sighed, staring off mindlessly. "Unless you were talking about something else…"
"No, no… I mean your parents. I don't want them to get mad at us…" Lucas rested his head on Melissa's shoulder.
"I can explain it to them… if you're okay with that of course." Melissa whispered, resting her head on his while she continued to stare off. "I can come up with something else if you're not comfortable sharing."
"Um… y-yeah, that's okay… I guess they deserve to know…" Lucas sighed softly and just let her hold him.
"Only if they ask what's going on. I won't say anything otherwise." Melissa hummed, pulling their fingers apart for just a moment. "I don't want you to think about that though… what will get it off your mind?"
Lucas shrugged. "I… I think I just need a minute… it always goes away eventually, but I haven't found anything in particular that actually helps…"
"Sure thing. If you think of something, just tell me." She whispered again, lacing their fingers once again. Gradually she started to feel rather drowsy, even with the sleep she got.
"Mm…" Lucas tried his best to stay awake despite his exhaustion, knowing that the nightmares would swiftly return if he dozed off.
Melissa could feel him start to relax more and more, knowing he wouldn't want to sleep. "I think we have soda… if you need caffeine, that is."
