"Yes, I'm alright, Mel. I'll just have to try and remember everything so I don't leave anything out." He smiled softly to reassure her.
"Yes, I'm alright, Mel. I'll just have to try and remember everything so I don't leave anything out." He smiled softly to reassure her.
Melissa smiled back similar to his. "You really don't have to do this, I can figure things out on my own." She told him, reaching up to run her fingers through his hair.
"No, no. You deserve to know, Melissa." He kissed Melissa softly and sighed. "I've been hiding it from you for too long."
Her fake smile dropped, as a very subtle one took its' place. "Well, I'll make sure to grab extra blankets so we can cuddle up together as you talk."
"Sounds good to me, Mel." Lucas kept walking and eventually released Melissa's hand when they were close to the house. He didn't want to, of course, but he was more afraid of her parents being angry.
She hadn't even noticed they were getting close, until he let go of her hand. The suddenness of it, had her lift her head back up from his shoulder. "I guess our hours of peace are over…"
Lucas sighed and looked up at the house. "Yep… now, where do you keep those blankets? It might be best to have this conversation on the roof, actually."
Melissa nodded, leading him up to the door. "I've got some in my room, but there's extras in the hall closet with the games upstairs." She informed, pecking his cheek before pushing the door open. She began to lead him on, pausing at seeing the kitchen. Sighing heavily, she led him into the kitchen instead of up the stairs. "We should probably grab dinner first."
"Probably, yeah… sandwiches again?" He asked, already beginning to root through the pantry to find what they would need.
"Works by me," Melissa nodded, wrapping her arms around his waist from behind. "Though I can make food. I don't mind, Lu."
Lucas shrugged. "I don't mind either. We can just make them together, I guess. I don't feel like arguing."
Humming softly, she pulled back from him. "That works. What kind of sandwich do you want?" Melissa asked, turning to the fridge.
"Um… any kind is fine. You?" Lucas asked, pulling a couple of slices of bread out of the bag.
"Turkey with Swiss cheese, probably." Melissa hummed, pulling both the turkey and cheese from the fridge.
"Alrighty. I'll do that too, I guess." Lucas took some turkey from Melissa and started making a sandwich.
"You don't have to, we can have something else Lucas." Melissa told him, trying to figure out his tone.
"No, no, I don't mind. It sounds good." Lucas shrugged, placing a slice of cheese on top of the turkey.
“Well, if you’re sure.” Melissa told him softly, hearing one of her parents coming on down the stares. “I’ll grab water, if you’re alright with that.”
"Yeah, sounds good to me, Mel." Lucas grabbed the ingredients to begin making a second sandwich for himself.
Melissa poured water into two glasses as her mother walked in the room. “Looks like you two are finally home.” Mrs. Brennahan commented, resting her hands on her hips as her husband followed her into the room. Both of them seemed to be wearing nicer clothes, dressed for some form of night out. “Didn’t father tell you, we went to the park?” Melissa asked softly, as she looked over to her parents.
Lucas looked up when Melissa's parents headed into the room. "Good evening, sir. Ma'am." He dipped his head politely to each of them as he addressed them.
Mr. Brennahan nodded back with a soft smile, loosely linking arms with Mrs. Brennahan. "Did you two have a good time at least?" She asked, after receiving a look from her husband. Only nodding in response, Melissa made sure to keep her distance.
"Mhmm. Thanks for asking." He smiled softly and handed a sandwich to Melissa. "Where are y'all heading off to?" He asked politely.
"We're headed out for a nice dinner. I trust you kids will head to bed eventually without supervision?" Mr. Brennahan asked softly, Mrs. Brennahan seeming to relax a bit at the note of them going to dinner. "Yes sir, we were just going to hang out for a bit." Melissa responded politely, forcing a smile on to her lips.
"Yes, sir." Lucas nodded in agreement with Melissa. "I'm sure we'll go to bed early, actually… I'm pretty tired." And will probably be more so after crying…
"Alright, you two be good then." He nodded with a light smile before leading the two of them out of the room. At the sound of the door shutting, Melissa let out a sigh. "Well… they left… again."
"Yep… makes it a bit easier to ensure privacy, though." Lucas sighed as well. "Let's just eat and get to it, yeah?"
Melissa frowned taking one of the sandwiches. "You really don't have to do this Lucas, I'll be alright if you need to wait." She insisted, biting into the soft bread.
"No, no… like I said, you deserve to know. I can't keep putting this off." He sighed and took a bite of his own sandwich.
"But we're not talking about me. I'll be fine. Are you ready to talk about it?" Melissa asked, her voice soft when she spoke to him.
