"Yes, sir… thank you." Lucas seemed to be noticeably a bit tense whenever Melissa's father got too close. He knew the man was nice and that he'd never purposefully hurt him or anything, but he couldn't help his natural reactions.
"Yes, sir… thank you." Lucas seemed to be noticeably a bit tense whenever Melissa's father got too close. He knew the man was nice and that he'd never purposefully hurt him or anything, but he couldn't help his natural reactions.
Pouring himself a water glass, he left the pitcher sitting there before starting to head off. "Night you two. Night honey." Her father hummed, pressing a kiss to the top of Melissa's head before disappearing. Melissa seemed frozen in place, watching her father disappear up the stairs.
"Goodnight, sir." Lucas dipped his head politely and sighed, relaxing a little when they were alone again. Melissa's father was roughly the same height as his own father, and him being close made Lucas a bit nervous just from bad situational memories.
After another moment of starring at empty space, she made herself turn to face him. "A-are you alright?" Melissa asked him softly, taking a glance at his lip to see if it was still bleeding.
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine… I just get kinda tense when he gets close. It's nothing, really… I-I know he's not going to hurt me or anything…" Lucas's lip was still bleeding a bit, but seemed to have slowed down.
"No, it's fine… normally he wouldn't even really talk to me. So that was… strange, to say the least." She admitted, taking his hand in her own. "Is there anything I can do to try and calm you down?"
Lucas shook his head. "Just being here is good… I'll be fine, Mel." He entwined his fingers with hers and closed his eyes, slowly relaxing. "Isn't it good that he's talking to you?"
"I… I honestly don't know. It's been the same way for such a long time." Melissa whispered, looking up to him with a light sigh. "Almost four years by this point."
"Mmm…" Lucas was quiet for a few seconds. "I wonder what an actual conversation with my dad would be like…? When he's sober, that is."
"If or when you go to visit him, you'll find out." Melissa offered weakly, shrugging just slightly. "If your dad remembers anything from last night, maybe it's best I don't go with you."
"Mm… I'll probably give him at least a few days to cool off. I-I don't know if I'm comfortable going alone…" He sighed softly. "Should I bring him something? I think I'm allowed to do that… maybe I'll bring him a book…?"
"It seems a little early anyways. I was just thinking out loud. I'd go with you if you asked." She hummed softly. "And if you're going to, just think about things he can't hurt himself with."
Lucas nodded. "I'd have to bring something small enough to put into the slot or whatever… Do you have any ideas?"
Going to speak, she paused taking better time to think about it. "I don't know… do you know what his interests are?"
"Um… drinking." Lucas laughed weakly. "In all seriousness, though… when we were younger, he liked to go on hikes through the forest and go hunting and stuff. Not easy to help him with that. I think a book would probably be good."
"Yeah, probably the best option. You wanna head up to my room and just see what we can do until it gets late?" She asked in a hum, glancing over to the fridge in thought.
Lucas nodded. "Sounds good to me." He yawned a bit and checked to make sure that his lip wasn't actively bleeding anymore before throwing away his paper towel.
"Do you want or need anything to drink? Just before we head upstairs." Melissa offered him, tucking her hair back behind her hair carefully. "Honestly, do you need anything at all?"
"A bit of water might be nice… I can still taste blood." Lucas found himself a cup and got water, sipping it idly. "Other than that, I'm okay. You should finish your sandwich."
"But I'm not hungry…" Melissa pouted, watching him sip from his water glass. "It's too late to eat anyways. I don't like eating close to bed."
"But you gotta eaaaat." Lucas whined playfully. He soon finished his water and headed over to the sink to wash the cup.
"But I'm not hungryyyyy." Melissa whined right back, coming up behind and enveloping him in a hug around the waist. "Do I have to eat?"
"I'd feel better if you did." Lucas hummed softly and turned around to hug Melissa in return. "But I'm not gonna force you to do anything."
Resting her chin on his chest, she let out a soft sigh looking into his eyes. "Why do you have to do that to me?" She continued to pout, relaxing into his arms.
Lucas smiled gently. "Just trying to take care of you, Mel." He pressed a soft kiss to her forehead and opened up the fridge to grab her sandwich for her.
Her face flushed at the kiss, and she stood there numbly for a moment to process what had just happened. "L-Lu… you can't use my words on me…" Melissa pouted, coming behind him to lightly massage his shoulders.
"I just did~" Lucas grinned, picking up Melissa's sandwich and pressing it gently against her cheek. "Now, c'mon~"
Huffing with a slight sigh, she crossed her arms over her chest. "I'm not a baby…" Melissa hummed, not actually upset with him. She so hoped he knew she was just playing.
"Perhaps not, but you're a growing girl~" He held the sandwich out to her again. "I won't force feed you, but I'd still like you to eat."
Letting out another sigh, she nodded slightly, taking the plate and sandwich from him. "I'll eat it, I promise." Melissa told him, picking it up and biting into it. "Happy?" She asked with her mouth half full.
