Confirming Amadeus's suspicions, Kieran didn't answer. He brought his knees up, wincing as his legs bumped up against his bruised bare chest.
Confirming Amadeus's suspicions, Kieran didn't answer. He brought his knees up, wincing as his legs bumped up against his bruised bare chest.
Amadeus watched him for a moment, inwardly deciding that it wouldn’t do any good to keep asking. But he continued to wonder. He softened his gaze down to the floor and rested his chin on his knees again, coincidentally sitting similarly to Kieran.
Kieran eyed Amadeus from the other side of the room, perplexed as to the fact the other man was echoing his position. He didn’t say a thing, though, and simply kept his cautious stare fixed on Amadeus.
Amadeus shifted in his seat, curiosity pricking at his mind until he couldn’t bear it anymore. Maybe he couldn’t get a straight answer, but could he start a conversation? He waited a minute or so to think about what to say. “So how long have you been here?”
He saw Amadeus’s mouth open before he heard him speak. He stayed silent for a moment before answering.
« Years. »
“Years…” he echoed no louder than a whisper. He waited a while longer before adding,” Does that happen often?” If it happened often, he was worried he might endure it himself, as well.
« Often enough. »
He turned his head to look at Amadeus again. He suddenly didn’t look cruel, or threatening.
« Every month or so. Time is strange in here. But it won’t happen to you I think. »
He felt lucid, suddenly, grounded.
“Huh…” Amadeus’ own expression softened, somewhat, with a flicker of sympathy. The corner of his lips twitched into a frown. “Why don’t you think so? What’s so different about me? Or you, whichever one.”
« Me. They do it to get through the storm. They do it for the confession that isn’t there. »
Kieran looked to the side and glared at the thigh-high striped rat that was sniffing at him. You’re not real, he thought at it.
Amadeus rested his head back down again. Why was this man here if he hadn’t even confessed yet? “Have you been charged already?” He raised an eyebrow. If this was the case, he especially wasn’t thrilled to be in this prison.
(Sorry!)
Kieran rolled his head sideways and shut his eyes.
« They just needed a reason to lock me up. They didn’t need it to be true, » he whispered to himself, his mind doing backflips and cartwheels as he tried to contain it.
(No worries!)
Amadeus slowly blinked, lowering his chin a bit along with the corner of his lips. His whole face seemed to sag in a frown. If what Kieran said was true, he deserved to be in here much, much less than Amadeus did. “In that case, my condolences.”
Kieran sensed the change and lifted his own chin up.
"What are you thinking?" he asked suddenly, his voice cracking slightly.
He glanced back. He raised his eyebrows some, but kept his chin planted on his knees. “Like I’d tell you,” he sniffed in a half hearted attempt at laughter.
Kieran wrinkled his nose and tucked his head between his knees.
« I think we’re going to be in jeer a long time together. We might as well speed up the getting to know process, » he murmured into his knees.
(I’m so sorry I diappeared! I’m not doing well right now, mentally, but I’m really trying to keep up)
Amadeus curled his lip slightly. Was this just another manipulative attempt to try and get him to confess to being immortal? It wasn’t going to work. “Alright, fine,” he muttered. “Tell me something about yourself first.”
(No worries from me! Take all the time you need :) I hope you get to feeling better)
Kieran considered.
“I was diagnosed as clinically insane upon arrival here.”
Not surprised, Amadeus almost replied, but he held back. “Alright, then. Before I was sentenced, I lived in Austria for a year.”
“Oh.” Kieran smiled slightly. “Kangaroos? That’s very nice.”
He raised his eyebrows. “Kangaroos? I guess there might be some, but I haven’t seen any in Austria.”
Kieran frowned. "What? But they're the most iconic animals of Austria, and also those little grey bears. Aren't they?" he said with a slight whine to his voice.
Amadeus tilted his head. “…No?” Then an amused smile settled on his lips as he realized. “Ah. You must be thinking of Australia. Austria is a different country.”
(Hey, you still up for this? I'm really so I disappeared, really)
(It’s ok! I’m still up for it if you are)
(Yeah I am!)
Kieran dropped his head dejectedly. "Why are there so many countries. It's impossible to remember them all. You must have travelled, if you know so much, right?" he asked, his voice muffled by the curtain of matted blond hair in front of his face.
(Sweet!)
(I've missed writing so much (: )
“Yes, I’ve travelled a bit,” Ama admitted, and tilted his head in consideration. How much could he tell this man without affirming Kieran’s accusation? He slid his feet off the side of the bed to sit normally, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest. “It’s not like I’ve been to every country in the world. I prefer some over others.”
