Kieran lifted his head slightly, a childish blush creeping up his neck. "Okay. Tell me stories." He was purely curious, having been stuck in white-walled institutions his entire life.
“Stories?” Amadeus blinked his full attention back to Kieran, his eyebrow arched. He appeared genuinely curious. Such a stark difference from the cold interactions they were having before. “I might have a few if I can think of the most interesting.”
Kieran nodded enthusiastically. "Yes please." His voice was high pitched all of a sudden, with the unmistakable pitch and energy of a child's voice. He loosened his grip on his knees, letting his legs slide straight out in front of him. He started swinging his feet from side to side, staring at Amadeus with a small shy smile.
"Alright," Amadeus returned the smile. Softer now than before when Kieran was a threat. The man didn't seem much like a threat now. "Well, then, what about one while I was in Austria? It only seems fitting." The real struggle was choosing—and modifying—the story to seem plausible for his age and the year that it was now. "Hm. Are you partial to romance stories?"
Kieran considered this for so moment by chewing on his tongue, before nodding enthusiastically.
“Well, then perfect.” Amadeus rubbed his hand against his chin thoughtfully. “Where to begin,” he hummed. “I was in Austria when I met a girl who looked lost. I wasn’t very fluent in German, but I knew a few words, so I asked her if she knew what she was looking for. Thinking back on it now, strange how a foreigner asked someone local if they were lost,” he huffed with a bit of amusement.
Kieran was instantly transported into the story, his expression going slack and his eyes glazing over. With the years he’d spent locked in a single stone room, his mind was wired to latch onto every last bit of life he could access.
He was creatively under fed and it had nearly killed him. Would have, in fact, if the guards at his door weren’t as aware.
