Bryn gave it a slightly confused before he shook his head like he was trying to clear out his thoughts, yawned, and pushed himself up onto his hands to stretch. He even got a fork to eat it with.
Bryn gave it a slightly confused before he shook his head like he was trying to clear out his thoughts, yawned, and pushed himself up onto his hands to stretch. He even got a fork to eat it with.
Sebastian began eating when he received the food, but CC paused to pray.
Bryn dug in alongside Sebastian, glancing over at CC curiously. She seemed to be saying something quietly, but there was no one for her to be talking to. He bumped Sebastian with his shoulder, gesturing to CC with a confused tilt of his head.
Sebastian looked up from his food, glancing at CC. He rolled his eyes before returning his attention to Bryn.
I'll explain later, he mouthed.
Bryn nodded and turned back to his salad, scarfing it down with the ferocity of someone who feared it could be taken away at any moment.
CC finally looked up. When she noticed how fast Bryn was eating, she gave Sebastian a look.
"Are you starving your demon?" She asked deadpan.
"W-What? No!" Sebastian was taken back by the question.
Bryn looked up at her with comically wide eyes and shook his head, unable to believe she though Sebastian capable of something like that. Even if he was a bit thickheaded, he wasn't cruel.
Seemingly satisfied with the answer Bryn gave, ignoring the one Sebastian gave enough though the question had been asked of him, CC went back to smiling, eating her food. Sebastian sighed, shaking his head lightly with a small smile. CC was a nice girl. They continued to talk as they ate, and the subject eventually turned to demons. CC herself wanted one, but her mother wasn't going to let her until her next birthday.
Bryn stifled a smile behind his hand, giving CC an appreciative look. She seemed… nice. The kind of person he might've been friends with if he had been born into another life. His expression, of course, soured when their conversation turned to buying a demon, and he couldn't help but shiver as he set his head in Sebastian's lap to distract himself. She was only human after all. Figured that she'd want a pet just like everyone else.
Sebastian laid his hand on Bryn's head lightly, fingers twining themselves in Bryn's hair. He nodded or shook his head in responses to questions about owning a demon. It was a bit hard, especially with Bryn in the room, for him to do this, but he spoke subjectively about him, as if he really was just a pet. It made him grimace on the inside.
Bryn squirmed unhappily in his lap at a couple of the answers, pausing to glare up at him when he said something that reminded him just a little too much of his previous master's attitude.
Sebastian flinched when he saw Bryn's stare, but CC did not notice this thankfully. And then, she finally asked the question he had been dreading.
"What did you do to tame Bryn? Your father had told my mother he was practically feral when you bought him."
"Well…" He said slowly. He had no idea how to answer without revealing their secret. She would catch him in an outright lie, like saying he beat him into it.
Bryn grimaced at the world 'feral' and then grimaced even harder when he realized Sebastian didn't have a cover story. "M-master…?" He made sure his voice was as wobbly and small as possible, eyes so big and glassy he looked like he was seconds away from crying. It was a trick he'd picked up when he realized some humans saw him as more of a kicked puppy than a punching bag. He sniffled a little for effect. "I… I don't feel good."
"Aw, what's wrong?" CC cooed, leaning forward in her chair with a worried look, her question forgotten. Sebastian looked down at Bryn, stifling a relieved look. He moved his hand to cup Bryn's face.
"What's wrong?" He asked as well.
Bryn's eyes crinkled a bit at the corners, mouth flicking up in the barest hint of a smile before he was nuzzling Sebastian's hand with a plaintive whine. He looked up at CC through his eyelashes, eyes glimmering with unshed tears. "I don' wanna remember… I… I'm scared."
"Aw, you poor thing," she cooed again, reaching out and patting his head lightly. Then, she leaned back, giving Sebastian a death glare, one eyebrow raised. Sebastian, who had started to rub Bryn's cheek with his thumb lightly, raised his unoccupied hand in defense, averting his eyes from her. She was pretty good at making you feel pretty ashamed when she gave you that look.
Bryn flinched away from her touch and pressed closer to Sebastian, the one part of his little act that wasn't fake. He leaned into the hand on his cheek with a soft whimper and a frightened, flickering glance up at CC, hoping she'd take the hint and realize that Sebastian made him comfortable.
CC finally stopped giving Sebastian the death stare, falling back to chatting with him. Sensual, who had tensed under the gaze, relaxed, keeping one hand on Bryn's cheek and the other going to rest in his back. She did most of the talking, of how she was slightly jealous of the relationship Sebastian has with Bryn so quickly, hoping she could have that with her future demon too.
Bryn muffled his snort into Sebastian's thigh, arching his back slightly under his human's hand to signal that he wanted to be petted. He could still feel CCs touch skittering across his scalp, alien and uncomfortable despite his quickly improving mood.
Sebastian noticed, moving to brush his fingers through Bryn's hair and down his back, striking him with a soft smile. He loved to touch Bryn, even if it was like this. CC went on and on, seemingly unable to shut up about the prospect of her getting a demon in less than a month. Sebastian has paid attention to her, just enough so he wouldn't seen uninterested in her. In fact, he was mostly focusing on Bryn.
Bryn's purr rumbled into Sebastian's legs, low and satisfied in his throat. He could barely hear CC anymore, too caught up in the feeling of warm hands running down his back and the pretty curve of Sebastian's smile. He wanted to talk, but he knew he couldn't, so he relegated himself to a few longing glances and a particularly pleased sigh when the human's fingers ran through his hair.
Sebastian, noticing this, spent more time with his fingers going through Bryn's hair before continuing down his back. Eventually, though, he frowned slightly at one of CC's questions.
"Female," he said. She nodded, smiling. A thought seemed to come to her.
"Oh! What if we have our demons mate?" She said, seeming to like the idea a lot. Sebastian winced slightly.
"I'll think about it," he said. He thought about it for two seconds, already deciding in his mind that that was not happening.
Bryn zoned back in when he noticed that Sebastian seemed upset, going quiet and still as he heard CCs little proposition. Just the idea of it made his throat close up, a nervous shiver skittering down his spine as he tried to swallow down the panic rising in him. Sebastian wouldn't. No, no, Sebastian loved him. Sebastian didn't want to hurt him. He whined softly, eyes flickering up to his human's face for reassurance.
Sebastian looked down at Bryn as soon as he felt the change in Bryn, hand resting on his head. CC was already droning on about something else, her attention on what she was saying, so Sebastian shook his head slightly to Bryn. He would never hurt him like that. He gave a small smile, fighting down the sudden urge to pull Bryn completely onto his lap. He wasn't sure if CC would be upset by this.
It was a breathless second before Bryn saw the smile and the tiny little headshake, but it was all the time he needed to ramp himself up into an even more panicked state. He practically collapsed with relief when he got his answer, curling up around Sebastian and getting as far into his lap as he thought he could get away with.
CC looked at Bryn for a moment, as if she was going to comment. Sebastian held his breath for a moment, mentally preparing himself to tell Bryn off, when CC laughed lightly.
"Oh, just let him in your lap already!" She smiled good-naturedly. Sebastian sighed in relief.
"Well, Bryn," he said with a smile.
"You heard her."
Bryn tensed minutely when he noticed CC watching him, subtly turning his back to try and shield himself from the look until she spoke. It was like watching a spring pull tighter and tighter until he snapped back with a soft gasp of surprise, offering CC a shaky disbelieving smile before he all but flung himself into Sebastian's lap. It was sweet, the way he burrowed his head into his human's neck and finally seemed to relax.
CC laughed lightly.
"That's adorable," she said. Sebastian smiled, lightly wrapping his arms around Bryn. This was so much better then Bryn having to sit on the floor next to him. He continued to smile as CC spoke, gently rubbing Bryn's back as he half listened.
Bryn stayed curled up in a tight little ball against Sebastian's chest for a while, but he began to open up a bit as he relaxed. Soon he was sitting sideways in Sebastian's lap, legs off to the left and arms wrapped loosely around the human's neck so he could rest his head lightly on his shoulder. He was still purring softly, rumbling away against Sebastian's cheek.
Sebastian leaned his head into Bryn's lightly, glad Bryn could finally relax. CC talked for what seemed like ages before finally stopping.
"You should get going," she finally said, looking at the time. Sebastian looked as well.
"You're right," he said.
