Cas tossed the yarn to the ground and closed his eyes, enjoying Sorin's touch. "What were you doing in the basement, love?"
Cas tossed the yarn to the ground and closed his eyes, enjoying Sorin's touch. "What were you doing in the basement, love?"
"I was… fixing some things down there," he stroked his cheekbone with his thumb and gave him a small kiss on his lips in hopes he wouldn't press further.
"What things? Did I break something on accident?" He asked, looking a bit worried.
He shook his head. "No, no, Cas, I was just…" he struggled to look for something else to say, fumbling for words to tell him. "I… uh… I was just… organizing."
"Okay…" Cas relaxed and hugged Sorin again. "Hopefully it's clean now…"
"Yeah it is," he gave him a brief smile and hugged him, though he couldn't help but feel just a twinge of guilt.
"That's good." Cas hummed. "I'm bored. Wanna do something?"
"Yes, we're going to begin with your reading lessons before we do anything else."
Cas sighed. "Fiiiine…" He sat up and huffed a bit. He never enjoyed reading lessons. They made him feel dumb.
"We'll review everything first then i'll print out some worksheets for you to do," he said as he stood up and strode to the bookcase to retrieve the cards.
"Alright, love…" Cas lay back on the floor while he waited, continuing to whine.
He glanced over at the other. "Cas, what's wrong?"
"Reading is haaaard…" He curled up into a ball. "Writing too…"
"With practice, it won't be as hard. Besides," he knelt next to him and turned him over. "You'll need it once you go to high school."
"I mean, yeah, but that doesn't make it any easier now." Cas looked up at Sorin from where he was, a struggle evident in his eyes.
"Which is why I'm here to help you. I will always be here to help you, Cas."
"I know, I know…" He sighed and reluctantly sat up. "It just makes me feel really dumb when I don't know something."
"No one was born knowing how to read or write. We all start from somewhere," he pulled him close to his chest. "If it make you feel better, I never knew how to read or write… or talk when I was made."
"I mean, yeah. Neither did I. I know you weren't technically a baby, but like… that would've been the baby time of your life. You can't be expected to know that stuff. I couldn't do like, anything when I was a baby. I couldn't even walk or feed myself or anything."
"Yeah, but what i'm trying to say is that there's no reason to feel dumb when you don't know something. Yes, you don't know it but that doesn't necessarily mean you're a dumb person. See, all these kids in high school don't know what the hell is going on half the time but the more they are taught, and the more they practice, they will get it eventually."
"I guess… it's still hard, though, since I'm so far behind. I can't really do much math or anything either. I'd fail everything in high school." Cas sighed, running his fingers through his hair.
"I won't let you fail. I'll teach you everything else after you learn how to read and write."
Cas nodded reluctantly. "I'm just afraid I won't be able to catch up… you seem to think I'm smarter than I am. I might not be able to."
"I believe you can. Doubting yourself isn't going to help you succeed."
He sighed. "I may not be mentally able to handle all that. I'm not saying I don't want to try, necessarily, I'm just thinking realistically."
"I'm not going to cram every bit of information into your brain, Cas. We'll take baby steps, we'll do things at your pace until you're ready to move on to the next thing."
"Okay… when would I be starting school, then?" He asked tiredly.
Sorin rubbed the back of his neck and let out a nervous laugh. "A month."
"Yeah, I dunno if I can learn how to read, write, and do math by the end of the month."
He sighed. "We could at least get reading and writing down or I could maybe enroll you later if you'd like."
