"That's a bit uncommon here isn't it?" Tyler commented. "I'm sorry, I have a bad habit of over thinking things. It was probably just a small quake, and we don't need to worry-" The ground lurched again even harder than before causing Tyler to stagger and fall into the side of Kat's car.
Sorry I didn’t answer I’m SO busy this whole week
Kat fell backwards, she then got up and brushed herself off, “Hey! Your going to pay for that!” She screamed.
(It's fine!)
Tyler didn't have time to respond. He was knocked over again by the ground lurching again. This time it started shaking and it didn't stop. The shaking got worse and worse, causing things to start falling over, and large cracks to start appearing in the ground. Tyler reached out and grabbed Kat's hand, pulled her down, pressing against the car and covering her head. The shaking continued without slowing down.
Kat was to in shock to realize what was going on, so she stayed protected by Tyler. She didn’t know what else to do so she started crying. “What’s happening!?” Her voice shaky.
something must be wrong this is NOT an earthquake! she thought to herself.
Tyler wrapped both his arms around her head and held it to his chest. He had his legs pressed against her car door and his back to the rest of the car. He'd positioned them in a way that they were covered from most falling debris and anything that did fall on them wouldn't hit Kat, it would hit himself. The shaking mixed with the screams of people, things falling apart, and car alarms all going off, made it impossible to really distinguish where they were and where anything else was. Then slowly the shaking began to die off, until it was silent again.
Kat froze trying to tune out everything, scared for her life. After everything stopped she got back up and look around then at Tyler.
“T-Thanks.” She said wiping her tears away, “Are you ok?”
Tyler was up as well, shaking the dust off of himself. "Yeah," he mumbled. Then he looked around at the city. "What the hell happened?" There were buildings that had just collapsed, there were cars halfway in giant cracks that had formed during the shaking, and there was fire in several different spots.
(ok sorry for not responding I'm done with my very busy week so I'll be able to respond more)
"I uh I don't know." She said looking around. She swung around, she sighed in relief. "My house repairable, its actually pretty intact." she looked over and saw a collapsed building and someone being crushed by the rest of the building. She ran over to the woman. "Tyler help me lift this!"
(It's totally fine, I completely understand that.)
Tyler ran over and began helping Kat get the debris off the woman. "Are you alright ma'am?" his whole demeanor had seemed to change. Instead of shocked and panicked as most people would probably have been in this situation, he was more focused and calm. Almost like he'd been train to handle situations like this.
"T-thank you." the woman gratefully said, "What happened?"
Tyler looked around and shook his head. "I don't know, but I plan on finding out."
"Lets go see if theres anyone else who needs help." She said to Tyler, "Will you be ok on your own while we help others?" She said looking a the woman
"Yea. I should be fine. My name is Grace by the way." She smiled
Tyler pulled out a small notebook from his back pocket, and began writing something down. Then he tore out a piece of paper and handed it to Grace. "Ma'am, these are directions to get from here to an underground shelter. If you can, and or want to, I suggest you get there." Then he turned back to Kat. "Yeah let's go see who else needs help."
"T-Thank you." Grace smiled.
They walked over to the buildings yelling for anyone else that needed help. "I don't hear anything." Kat said with a sigh.
Tyler looked around, and sighed. "There were people in there," he said. "And there is noway they made it out of there before the building came down."
"Yea… My uh my mom works here.." She said looking away.
Tyler looked at Kat for a moment, then he looked at the building ruins. "Give me a few moments," he said suddenly and climbed over the ruble and started making his way into the building. Or, what was left of the building.
"Tyler no!" She said but he was already gone climbing through the ruble. She hoped he would find her mother healthy and alive.
Tyler moved along, slowly, trying not to dislodge anything and cause the rest of the building to come down. He covered his mouth and nose with his forearm so he wouldn't inhale to much of the dust that was floating around. "Hey, is anyone here? Make some sort of movement sound anything, so I can find you." Something shifted, and caused the whole building to shift. Rocks fell and crumpled around Tyler, who used his other arm to cover his head. "Oh boy…"
After awhile of waiting Kat started to worry
“Tyler!?” She shouted. After no response she went in to look for him.
Tyler continued, carefully through the ruble, keeping his arms up and, calling out every once in a while to see if anyone would answer. He was getting nothing, for a long time. Then through the walls he heard something that sounded like banging. He listened for a moment and picked up a pattern, he recognized it instantly. "Morse code… there's some still alive in here." He began making his way towards the sound to try and find whoever was making the SOS call.
“Tyler?” She called out, she had no idea where to go. “Anyone?” She said again.
Tyler followed the sound down. He'd made it down into what he was pretty sure had been the sub floors. They weren't as damaged as the rest of the building, but parts of the ceiling had fallen down and there were cracks through the floor. He was in what looked like a lab.
Kat saw dead bodies everywhere in the main office she didn’t want to look but she wanted to make sure none of them were her mother.
As Tyler continued her could hear it more clearly. There was more to it. SOS, gas leak, fire.
"Shit," he snapped, picking up the pace and searching each room at a faster pace. He then came to a door, that had smoke coming out from under it. Upon trying to push the door open he found that it was stuck. "Hey, is someone in there?"
Kat saw a heard something fall behind her and she spun around. “Hello? Anyone there?” She said walking slowly to the noise.
