Tessa was unaware of the others as she honed in on a group of idiots. You scatter, morons, not clump up like a bunch of clueless lumps of clay. She opened her palm, and a small fireball materialized, lighter than usual fire. "Mangi fuoco, cretini!" she called with a grin before chucking the fireball right in the middle of the group.
"Let's get in there!" Marco had Lucas transform back and dragged him into the clearing. Lucas stood frozen for a few seconds before white hot pain tore through his shoulder. "Agh, shit…" He gritted his teeth and pressed himself against a wall, starting to panic.
Zain had taken down his openonets and the dragon seemed to be able to handle the rest, so he went to leave. But he was stopped by hearing the whimper, he rushed over and readed his magic. "Where does it hurt and how did you get the injury."
Lucas cowered away from Zain, clearly afraid of him. Blood seeped through his fingers from what was clearly a gunshot wound. Marco still seemed to be otherwise distracted by something.
"Gunshot, alright. I can work with that. This will hurt but I'll numb it as best as I can." Zain explained, holding his hand over the shoulder as he made the skin push the bullet out.
"Agh…" Lucas went very pale, shaking violently. He was still breathing much quicker than he should, and he was getting lightheaded by now. Oh god… not now, please…
The bullet clattered to the floor and he started on healing the wound. "And… Done." He muttered.
Lucas stared incredulously at his bloody hand. I shouldn't have let Marco drag me into this… He glanced nervously up at Zain.
"I can't get rid of blood, so you're going to want to wash up soon." He said, picking up the Buller and sticking it in his pocket. "Do you guys have anywhere to stay? My place has a few open rooms."
"W-We… no… not really…" Lucas cowered in the corner anxiously. "We just got here…"
"Alright, you'll stay with me and my friends then. Are you alright with little kids?"
Lucas nodded. "I-I don't mind them… Do you like dogs?" He's gonna think I'm weird…
"Usually, some of the kids are a bit allegeric so you'll need to stay a bit away." Zain pulled out a small notebook and wrote something down.
"Alright… if you were wondering, this is why." Lucas transformed into the golden retriever, one paw stained with his blood.
"I know, this alleyway isn't really hidden. Plus, you smell like dog hair." Zain muttered, motioning for him to change back.
Lucas transformed back and stood up. "You didn't… You didn't kill anyone, did you?"
Zain shrugged and smirked. "Of course I did. In this city it's kill or be killed, don't mind the undertale refrence. Lilla likes to play it."
Lucas's heart started pounding faster. "I-I don't mean in general, I just mean like… right now."
"Yes, yes I did probably kill somone. I mostly just injured them. They'll live, maybe."
Lucas felt a bit lightheaded again, but nodded. "P-Please don't kill me…" He said quietly.
"I'm not going to kill you, I only kill those who oppose my members or hurt them." Zain ruffled his hair. "Plus, you guys will be protected by the Nightshade Bunch as long as you stay with us."
"Alright…" Does that mean we're part of a gang now? He wondered nervously. This wasn't exactly what he had in mind when they decided to come here.
"And no you aren't part of the gang, if everyone we housed were part of it we'd have around a hundred and fifty members."
Lucas nodded. "That's… that's a lot of people." Yeah, we'll see how I do.
((ahh, I missed a lot. I'm just gonna say Tess was kicking ass while they were chatting))
Tessa grabbed the last straggler by the collar of his shirt, grinning with a mouth full of dangerously sharp and gleaming fangs. "Now now, don't be scared," she crooned, her hunter-like instincts kicking it—dragons loved to play with their prey. "I suggest you go run back to your boss and tell 'im what happened here today. Maybe teach 'im to stick to lesser squirrels such as yourselves instead of us big dogs."
