"So, we've already talked about classes and what we learn in them but I never really heard anything about you." He said once the waiter walked away.
"So, we've already talked about classes and what we learn in them but I never really heard anything about you." He said once the waiter walked away.
She shrugged. "There's not much to tell."
"I'll start then. I'm a music major because as a kid I used to love singing and playing with instruments. I remember the first instrument I got was a toy guitar." He said.
She nodded as she listened, deciding against speaking up. She'd always seen music as a waste of time. Maybe he can show me that it isn't…
"Yeah, I broke it a day after because I messed up the chords so badly that no amount of tuning could fix it." Blaze chuckled as the waiter brought their food back. "What about you, what hobbies did you do as a kid?"
Bridget bit her lip for a second, then answered. "I read… a lot."
"What genre's, maybe we can relate?" He asked, after taking a sip from his milkshake.
"Well, I used to read lots of fiction, stories like The Hunger Games and things like that," she answered, appearing to be slightly embarrassed of the answer. She was even more embarrassed of what she didn't say.
"You're kidding, I read all three books and loved them. What other books have you read?" He asked, much more interested now that he found something they had in common.
"Oh, um… The- The Fault in Our Stars…" she mumbled quietly, a light blush painting her face.
"Nice choice, although I wouldn't be able to tell you much since I skimmed through it. Romance-based books aren't really my favorite." He added after her.
"Oh. Understandable," she mumbled. Don't mumble, Bridget. You either at something or you don't! There is no in between! Did you hear me?
Blaze dipped a fry in his milkshake and ate it before continuing. "It's not just books that unlike though, right? Do you like debate?" He asked, trying to get her to open up more.
She blinked and shook of the memory of one of her mother's lectures, so she could listen to him. "Yes," she replied thoughtfully. "About somethings, I guess."
"How would you feel if you were participating in one?" He asked, downing his drink.
"I'm not exactly sure," she replied. "Why do you ask?"
"I'm going to one tomorrow and I wanted to invite you. You could just watch if you don't want to join." Blaze started before he realized his mistake. "Or you don't have to come at all, its your choice."
Bridget blinked. He wanted to see her again. Whenever she went out with guys, they never wanted anything after the first date. Date!?! she thought suddenly. This isn't… Is this…? "I… think I'm free tomorrow," she replied quietly.
"Really? Then that's great." Blaze didn't even think that he would get this far. He thought it was a long shot since Bridget didn't seem like the type to make space in her schedule for things like that. The waiter brought over a check and he took it without hesitation and paid before she could say anything. "My treat."
She turned a light shade of pink. "Oh… alright…"
"I guess its time to go. Should I Gove you a ride back to your dorm since it'll be quicker?" He asked.
"Yes," she said quietly, looking up at him. "Sorry, this is awkward…"
