Amber blinked, her lips parting slightly in surprise. “Oh. Oh, wow, Will… I, uh— I’m sorry?” she stumbled over her words, unsure of whether to congratulate or console him on the news.
Amber blinked, her lips parting slightly in surprise. “Oh. Oh, wow, Will… I, uh— I’m sorry?” she stumbled over her words, unsure of whether to congratulate or console him on the news.
"Oh no, I'm definitely pleased about that," William shrugged. "I feel somewhat awful for wishing it wasn't peaceful."
Amber hummed and squeezed his hand gently. “I mean, I get why you would wish that. She made your life miserable. The least she could do is die miserably, right?”
William squeezed it back. “I just thought you’d want to know.”
“Well, I am glad you told me. I’m glad she won’t be bothering you anymore, Will,” Amber said softly.
“Me, too,” William answered. “So… what have you been up to? These past years…”
“Not much, honestly. I graduated from college this spring with my bachelors degree in music theory and a minor in theatre. Because of my music, I got a job at the recording studio you picked me up from. Got my own apartment last fall and moved in. I, uh, tried to date a few times in my second year of college… They obviously didn’t work out,” Amber murmured, her cheeks gaining a slight, sheepish hint of pink. “I realized something, too, but I’ll tell you what it is later.”
William’s face hardened a little when she mentioned dating, but he immediately cleared his face.
“I’m glad you got to your dreams,” he said softly instead, rubbing her hand with his thumb. “Are you just an intern, or are you an employee? And how late is your ‘later’?”
“I’m just an intern right now, but they’ve said that I should be a full employee by the end of the year,” Amber answered, looking down at their intertwined fingers with a small smile. She turned his hand over in hers and played with his fingers, the fingers that she had wished to hold again for so long… “‘Later’ is… Maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow sometime. It depends on how long you intend to hold me hostage for.”
“Well, that’s good,” William smiled, following her and looking down as well. He watched her play with his fingers and loosened his control over his arm. “And what if I intend to hold you hostage forever?”
Amber’s smile slowly grew, and she played with his fingers a bit longer before looking up to answer him. “I’d tell you that I have things to get from my place before that. But I honestly don’t think I would mind it at all. In fact, I think I’d like that a lot.”
William loved that smile. He had said it so many times, but he didn’t think it was ever enough.
“Are you developing Stockholm Syndrome, love?” He teased. “You’re getting rather attached to your captor.”
Amber snorted and flicked his hand playfully in retaliation. “Well, I dated my captor and lo— really liked him, so I don’t think it’s that bad, dear.”
William noticed her stutter, but didn’t think much over it. Instead, he took her hand and pressed it against his lips.
“You’re still dating your captor,” he reminded her with a grin. “You make me want to hold you hostage for a little while longer.”
“You can hold me hostage as long as I have food, shelter, and clean clothes to wear,” Amber said, grinning at his statement of them still dating.
William looked at her intently, a mischievous smile on his lips.
“But what about no clothes?” He questioned teasingly, tilting his head to the side.
Amber narrowed her eyes slightly, raising her eyebrows at him once more. “You’d be very teased by that sight, my dear. Not that it’s anything you haven’t seen before.”
“So does that mean you considered it?” He grinned. “And yes, that is true.”
“William, really? Do you really want to see me naked and not be able to do anything? I’m pretty sure it would be utter torture for you,” Amber declared, giving him an incredulous look.
“You’re not wrong about that,” William tilted his head to the side. “Just seeing you clothed makes me want to do things to you. It would be utter torture to have you naked. Not a very good idea, it seems.”
Amber blinked at his words, feeling her cheeks and neck heat up a bit. It had been awhile since she’d been with him, and she forgot how little of a filter he kept on his words with her. Granted, she was the same with him, so that didn’t help, either.
“Well, I’m glad you think I look nice, Will,” she murmured, taking a sip of the water in front of her to cool herself down a bit.
When he saw her heat up, William felt proud. He still had that effect on her. He was satisfied. And she hadn’t been uncomfortable with his way of talking, either. He liked it.
“You look perfect,” he corrected her. “Unfortunately for me, though, you’ve seen better.”
Amber snorted and rolled her eyes. “I lied, hun. You should know that by now. You probably have the best body I’ve seen.”
“Of course I know,” William crooned. “You couldn’t wipe off that blush on your cheeks when you barged in on me. But maybe you can get a closer look one day. I certainly wouldn’t object.”
Amber gave him another look, though she didn’t object to his words. She was still turning slightly redder, though, so she was obviously more affected by them than she was letting on. “And what about you? Besides ‘perfect,’ what did you think of me when you walked in on me?”
William grinned, both at her turning red and because of her words.
“Well, you were in the shower when I walked in,” he resting his cheek on his free hand. “I thought you looked incredibly hot. Though the me from that time wouldn’t necessarily agree with it. I think you looked appetizing.”
Amber made a soft sound of acknowledgement, her cheeks and neck fully pink by now. Gosh, how did he have the power to do this her even after all this time? He could make her blush with a simple look. And his words made her feel hot and tingly all over.
She coughed and tore her eyes from his, looking around the restaurant. “What are you getting?”
“I think I’m going to get some rice with ribs,” William said, deciding to give his girlfriend a break with all the teasing. The look on his face, however, told her he wasn’t done yet. Just for now. “What about you?”
Amber hummed and drew her gaze to the menu. “I think I’ll get… Maybe just some ribs, actually. That sounds really good right now.”
“All right, I’ll call the waiter over,” William said as he signaled the waiter over, gave their orders and turned his attention back to Amber.
