Amber snorted, rolling her eyes as she swallowed what was in her mouth. When William has swallowed as well, she pressed their lips together in a shirt kiss.
“Then that’s my ‘thank you’ for not forgetting me and for coming back,” she declared before taking another bite.
William stared at her, waiting until she had swallowed her food before he bent down, pressing their lips together again briefly. He pulled back before pecking her lips again.
“You’re welcome,” he murmured. “And thank you, too, for not forgetting me. For waiting for me. For still caring.”
“I would always come back to you, Will. I could never forget you, no matter how hard I tried. And I will always, always care for you,” Amber whispered, gently cupping his cheek before drawing her hand away again. In fact, I’ll do much more than simply care for the man I love.
I love you, William wanted to say, but he kept silent. So much.
"I'm glad," he murmured instead. "I'll admit I was always scared, thinking you might have gotten over me. It made me regret letting you go, but it made me want to get better quickly."
“And I’m so glad you did,” Amber breathed, leaning into his side. “I’m so glad that you got better, Will. You have no idea…”
William wrapped an arm around her shoulders, chewing slowly before swallowing.
"I am, too," he murmured. "It didn't go as well as I wanted to in the beginning, but I think it went well."
“It went well enough that you’re here. And that’s all I could ask for,” Amber sighed, taking another bite of her food.
"I'm sorry you had to wait four years for me," William nudged her head with his own. "I won't make you wait any longer."
Amber smiled and nudged him back playfully, her elbow barely meeting his side. “Good, because I would probably come and find you before then if you did.”
“We should probably eat quickly,” William hummed. “So we can leave and make out.”
Amber snorted at his bluntness but didn’t object as she continued to eat. She couldn’t wait until they were alone, when they could have each other all to themselves.
Once they were finished eating, William paid for their food and they walked back to his car.
The second they did, William pressed her against it, pressing their foreheads together.
“I missed this,” he murmured. “Missed you having this much power over me without even trying.”
Amber let out a surprised breath at his sudden action, looking up into his eyes, the eyes she had sorely missed throughout the years. She wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed a burning kiss to the side of his neck, teasing him the way she knew he would her when he had the chance. When she pulled away, she rested her head against his chest.
“I missed it, too. I missed seeing the look in your eyes when I walked away from you, leaving you wanting. I missed you pulling me back to tease me so that I wanted nothing more than for you to press me against a wall and kiss me breathless,” she started in a whisper. “I missed you, Will…”
William growled when Amber wrapped her arms around his waist and pressed a kiss to his neck. Her lips left a burning sensation on the spot. He almost pushed her back to kiss her when she pulled away and rested her head against his chest. He, too, pulled her close to him, chin on the top of her head.
“I love you,” William breathed. “Every second you were away from me, I loved you more. I’ve wanted to tell this to you for so long.”
Amber pulled back to look into his eyes again. He loved her. She hadn’t doubted that fact for a second, but now he was saying it to her.
Her lips parted to say the same, but she found herself pausing. She still wanted to wait to say it, it had to be the right time. And now… Now could be, but she wanted to be sure that it was the right time before she said anything.
So, instead, her arms tightened around him. Her face was buried in his chest once more, and she let out a slow sigh.
She opened her mouth to say something, but she closed it again. William didn’t mind. He simply hugged her tighter, kissing her neck softly.
“The day went by so fast, huh?” He murmured. “Ironic how each day without you felt like years but now that you’re here, one day goes by like a second.”
Amber hummed her agreement, holding him closer and even tighter than before. “I know… But I wish every day could be like today. I wish I could be in your arms every day and every night,” she murmured softly.
William opened his mouth to say something, but shut it soon afterwards. It was too soon to suggest this. Even if they felt so strongly about each other, it was still too soon.
“I feel the same way,” he said instead. “I miss your warmth.”
“You should— you should stay with me tonight,” Amber suggested quietly, timidly. Just for tonight… And then they would see how they would be going about this relationship in the future.
“If you want me to,” William agreed, kissing the top of her head. “I’ll stay with you tonight.”
“Good,” Amber murmured before pulling away and sweeping a soft kiss across his lips. “Now, let’s go to my place where we can finally be alone.”
“All right, let me unlock my car real quick,” William murmured as he pulled away from her to unlock his car. “You’ll have to tell me where you live, though. I don’t know your address.”
“The apartment building on fifth street, third floor, room 210b,” Amber told him as she pushed herself off the car. She watched him unlock the doors before opening hers and shooting him a quick smile. “Same number as our dorm.”
William shot her a smirk as he opened his door. “Was that a coincidence or did you choose the apartment based on that?”
Amber shrugged and grinned at him before slipping into the car. “Would you be surprised if I said a little bit of both? It was one of two apartments left, so I chose that one insead of 402.”
William started the car, shooting her an amused look. “I suppose 210 is a lucky number. Don’t you think so?”
“It’s my favorite number,” Amber informed him with a grin, her eyes twinkling mischievously.
“Is it, now?” William reached over and pecked her over the mouth. “Well, I don’t see why it shouldn’t be.”
Amber hummed, leaning over to peck him on the lips back. “It’s a good number. Now, you should probably get the car started so that we can actually get to my apartment, hun. Don’t you think?”
“Then don’t distract me,” William chuckled as he started the car. He drove out of the parking lot towards Amber’s apartment.
