"You were trying to fix your hair." Catori shrugged, finding his staring a bit odd. "And then you were looking for something. I just…I think your hair looks nice-er, fine."
"You were trying to fix your hair." Catori shrugged, finding his staring a bit odd. "And then you were looking for something. I just…I think your hair looks nice-er, fine."
“Not a mind reader then.” He mumbled under his breath, locating the brush. “Fine is not perfect.” He spoke up louder, curling up in the far corner of the carriage to brush his hair out.
Catori huffed a laugh. "If you say so. I just felt like I should let you know."
Some of the tension slipped from the prince’s shoulders as he ran the brush through his hair in a regimented fashion. After a few minutes he was satisfied, his hair now silky and smooth again as the carriage started to slow a bit.
"It'll be nice to stretch my legs I guess." Catori said, looking out the carriage window. She was glad the carriage was large, or she would've had a harder time in it, but it still was kind of cramped.
The carriage came to a stop. Damian stood up and scooped up Copper, allowing the sleeping bird to nestle close to his chest as Jasper opened up the door. The prince curtly thanked him, stepping outside and looking around at the grassy clearing, the gentle sound of a river that was close by, but out of sight.
Jasper held the door open for Catori, mouthing: Is he still grumpy?
Catori shook her head with a grin as she stepped out, mouthing back: Not any more than usual.
Jasper grinned and nodded, going into the carriage to get the supplies for the tent. Damian had wandered over to the edge of the clearing, Copper nestled in the crook of his arm as he kneeled down and closed his eyes, preparing to summon his magic.
Catori made her way over, but stayed at a distance, waiting in case she needed to catch him. Despite how much she didn't like it, she did find his ability interesting.
Three carrots sprouted at his feet, growing until they were fairly large. Damian’s eyes opened. Despite looking a little pale, he seemed otherwise unaffected. He did, however, give Copper an affectationate nuzzle. Which was slightly out of character per his usual behaviour.
Catori let out a relieved sigh, stepping over. "I'm glad you're alright." She had been worried that he would overwork himself.
“Still have to grow the asparagus.” Damian let out a small yawn. “Hold our child.” He mumbled, holding out Copper in his cupped hands.
Catori blinked at that, but took Copper, cradling her gently. Child? "Please, for the love of creation, don't over do it?"
“I’ll be fine.” Damian grumbled, digging out the carrots with his bare hands, setting them aside in a pile. He closed his eyes again, focusing on growing asparagus now.
Catori rolled her eyes, but didn't say anything more as she looked around the clearing they were in, unconsciously rocking Copper in her arms.
Damian grew six stalks of asparagus, panting a bit afterwards. He wasn’t immediately going to pass out, but he wasn’t looking too strong at the moment either. To prove that he was ‘not overdoing it’ the prince struggled to his feet, wobbling a little.
"Need a hand?" She asked, taking a step towards him in case he did fall.
Damian reached for Catori’s arm, very gently gripping onto her to steady himself. “I told you I’d be fine.” He smiled softly, promptly reaching over and stealing copper back.
"Mmhm. And you totally look fine." Catori said sarcastically. His sudden attachment to the bird was odd, but kind of endearing.
Jasper had just finished setting up the tent. Without a word, he walked over to Damian and shooed the prince inside, ignoring his protests. He looked up at Catori, realising he owed her an explanation.
"He's so stubborn." She grumbled, watching the tent. You're one to talk.
Jasper laughed, nodding his head in agreement. “Just make sure he doesn’t try to escape the tent for me.” He rolled his eyes. “All the animals tend to bully him when he gets like this. Used to happen in the castle gardens a lot. Also tended to be when his brothers pranked him the most, but luckily we only have to watch one for one of those things now.”
Catori nodded, still watching the tent just in case. "That's good at least. If you need, I can light the fire for the food." Her eyes flickered to Jasper for just a second.
Jasper shook his head. “You’ve been dealing with his grumpiness all day. Let him dote all over you for awhile. I’ll be fine.” He smiled, picking up the carrots and asparagus.
"I find his grumpiness entertaining." Catori laughed lightly. "You sure you don't need my help?"
“Positive. Thanks, princess.” Jasper dipped his head, walking back to the carriage to find a pot to cook everything in. Damian had gotten suspiciously quiet inside the tent, but the faint sound of crunching could be heard.
((dshgsjhga that is the funniest fucking sentence i've read in a week
Catori made her way to the tent, stopping just outside of it. "Damian?"
Lmao Damian gets into a lot of trouble in this state, just a warning))
The tips of Damian’s ears turned bright red, and his cheeks changed to a rosey pink as he realized he was about to be caught. “Yes?” He turned his head, hiding Copper under his cloak. Cracker crumbs were scattered across his lap where the pudgy magpie had previously been sleeping.
"Mind if I come in? Jasper told me to come keep you company."
Damian shifted aside to make room, yawning. Copper let out a soft chirp. ”Cracker?” Which he pretended he didn’t hear, trying to discreetly slide another cracker under his cloak.
