"Nope! And it isnt like any one would notice if I disappear." He shrugs, already thinking of 'his last words.'
"Nope! And it isnt like any one would notice if I disappear." He shrugs, already thinking of 'his last words.'
"I would…" They averted their gaze from Jordan, sighing into their hands.
"Really?" Jordan looks around awkwardly as if looking for instructions on what to do next
Kale slowly rose their head to look at Jordan. "Yes. Look I don't always show that I care, and I don't know why I'm even saying this to you. Even though I never spoke to you in the 12 years I've known you, I still know things. Like the PTSD, the fact that all your foster families gave you back, the fact that no one treats you like you amount to anything. I can't pretend to know what goes on in your mind, but if you're feeling lonely and you're thinking of ending your suffering, I want you to at least know that I will be here for you as long as you need." They could feel their eyes welling up, mainly from anxiety - they didn't make it a habit to express their thoughts and feelings in detail - but they couldn't help but smile weakly. "I feel a little embarrassed now."
Jordan was speechless. He had frozen in his steps, mouth wide open and stares at the other, "Holy- Shit." He didn't move a muscle.
"W-what? What's wrong?" Their face was contorted with worry and confusion.
Jordan spreads his arms slightly, "How? What?" He chokes slightly, running both of his hands through his hair. He turns away as his eyes start to well up
"Was it something I said?" They started panicking, not sure what to do or say.
Jordan leans his head on the opposite wall, furiously rubbing his eyes, "No! Totally not!" His voice was higher then usual.
Kale sighed. "This is why I don't express feelings and emotions properly, I get mixed responses and then start feeling like I have done something wrong. You know you can tell me what's on your mind, I am here after all."
Jordan chokes at that, covering his mouth. He bangs his head on the wall slightly. His hands shaking. (He isn't used to any interaction at all so this is very new to him. That is why he is reacting like this. Just clear it up a bit.)
(Ah okay)
Kale slowly approached Jordan, still shaken from what they'd said. "I'm sorry, I realise this must be a new thing for you… Uhm…" (Kale doesn't exactly know how to react, oof)
(Jordan doesn't either XD
Jordan turns away again, his hand still covering his mouth, "Yeah no kidding." He shivers slightly
"Would it be better if I gave you some space? I'm sorry, I'm clueless when it comes to situations like these, and I don't want to say the wrong thing and make it worse."
"You didn't do anything wrong. I just. Wasn't prepared for it." His voice was still a bit high but he turns toward the other with a slight smile. He crosses his arms
"Woah you actually smiled for once!" Then they paused. "Bad timing?" They cleared their throat. "A-anyway, what should our first move be and when?"
"Night. You guys show me where it is. We'll go from there." Jordan quickly rubs his face and he was poker faced again. He walks to the door and pokes his head out to scan the hallway.
"That's the one time they would expect someone to try something."
"Exactly. Draw them to one place. Then you two. Make a run for it to any door on the first floor."
"And what about you? What if the window is locked when you get there?"
Jordan shrugs, "Grab a knife and hope for the best."
They crossed their arms, adjusting their glasses slightly, and took a moment to pause before taking a deep breath. "That's it? 'Grab a knife and hope for the best'? You can't be serious."
"I'm dead serious, Kale. Especially if it means that at least two people escape this hell."
"Are you saying that you're planning on not making it at all? I'm not going to let that happen." Kale scowled at the back of Jordan's head.
Jordan stands straight and turns toward him, "Yes. I know not all three of us are going to make it out of this place."
Their eyes soften, almost sad, but they don't show any vulnerability. "And why not? Why do you think that you're going to be the one who's left behind? Why do you think anyone is being left behind?"
"Because you both need to escape. Tell someone outside about this place! Bring help! You can get everyone out. And rescued. EVERYONE, Kale."
No emotions were apparent on Kale's face, but inside they were crumbling with confusion and something that might have been called fear. "Half of the kids here are little shits, while there are those whom I will admit don't deserve the treatment they are receiving. Let's say, for argument sake, that we did tell someone and they did nothing about it. Are you willing to risk that, and are you willing to risk the fact that it could be your life they take this time rather than your sanity? Knowing that there is another life waiting for you out there, do you truly want to give up your chance of actually finding it?"
Jordan looks him dead in the eyes, "Yes. I am. At least if I die. I will die knowing at least two of you made it out."
They maintained eye contact. "No one likes a hero, how can you be selfish and selfless at the same time? What I'm hearing is that you honestly don't want to live anymore, and I can't accept that."
