“No I wouldn’t!” He sighed loudly in frustration. “You’re idiots! Someone will find out! And then you might be dead for all I know!”

Zara smirked. "Why would I care? Rather be dead than living a boring 'happy' life." Zara said, putting finger quotations when she said 'happy'.

Ryker growled. His parents told him he growled like a wild (but happy) animal. But as he watched the meeting, the smiling faces around him, he wanted to do nothing more than stand up and demand the mayor explain the disappearances. So, he did.

Zara smirked. "Why would I care? Rather be dead than living a boring 'happy' life." Zara said, putting finger quotations when she said 'happy'.

“You know what? I see where you’re coming from. But you don’t need to be putting yourself in danger to avoid ‘happiness’”

"I'm not avoiding happiness. I avoiding fake happiness by creating real happiness." She said. "And you act like I'm going to commit suicide. I'm just stealing from a bakery." Zara said with a smirk.

“Haven’t you heard? People have disappeared. Anyone who isn’t happy enough, or might make some else unhappy could be next.”

"Mayor, I have a question!" Okay, standing up in front of a bunch of forced, smiling faces was a little scary. Ryker chose his words wisely. He forced a smile on his face. "My parents went missing a while ago. Do you know where our friends and family have gone?"

"Why? I'm going to steal like two pastries and be out of there. If your so concerned than I'll leave money for them. Besides, the only one who seems to be unhappy right now is you." Zara pointed out.

Katherine stood by silently, listening to Zara and smiling. She looked at the guy and sighed "Dude, what do you care that we're doing this. Either help us or go away." She turned to Zara and smiled "Let's break into the bakery."

Jake was walking down the street eating ice cream when he saw some girls and a guy then he noticed one of them was the girl who broke out with him before. "Hello" HH even said when he got close enough.

Zara looked down the building at the guy who was talking to them. "You know this guy?" Zara asked Katherine.

He stared at her, still frustrated. "Don't you people realize that there is actual danger? If you don't want to follow all the rules, fine. But don't die while doing it."

"Yeah. That's why people disappeared. I am guessing." Jake said then ate some more of his Ice Cream.

"I know him," Katherine said pointing to Jake. She glanced at the other guy and shrugged "I have no clue who he is."

"Hey Katherine." Jake said to her.

"Doesn't matter who I am." He began to walk off. "Be safe." he tossed over his shoulder. "And don't die."

Lea sighed and stood, not caring if she got in trouble. She walked to the bakery to get her normal order of chocolate and bread

"Hi Jake," She smiled and waved back to him.

Zara turned her back away from the people to give them privacy. She walked to the overlight to see the baker pulling a sheet of cookies out of the oven. "Welp!" She said. "Looks like we missed our chance! Let's go in through the front and simply buy one?" Zara said turning to Katherine.

Katherine nodded "Sure," She smiled and went over to the ladder, climbing down quickly.

Jake watched then then turned to walk away.

Zara climbed down the latter after Katherine. She walked out to where the boy was but he was no where to be found. "Man, that guy disappears quick." She said looking around for him.

"Yeah, he definitely does," She replied, smiling as she walked towards the door of the bakery.

"Hi two dark fudges and bruschetta, thanks," she said to the man at the counter with an overly happy smile

"Ryker Spellman! I've heard of you. I see your smile is upside down today, isn't it?" While every other citizen artificially laughed at the mayor's joke, Ryker glared. "Maybe my officers can take you to one of our Smiling Workshops, where you learn to smile and how it is fundamental to our society."
"What? No!" Ryker gasped. An officer sat in front of him turned around and grabbed his arm. "Let go! Get off me!" He ripped his arm away and took off running, two officers at his heels. He took off down the street, his black hoodie flying behind him.

Jake saw someone running towards him but didn't see any officers. He understood though. Quickly he grabbed them and pulled them into an alley and over behind a trash can.

Lea heard the noise but thought nothing of it until she heard sirens. She ducked out of the bakery and sprinted home
