Ryker sprinted down the street and spotted an alley. He ran in and used a trash can to boost himself onto the railing of a balcony of some apartment, hoisting himself up the building as the officers chased him.

Lea got home and saw the dude in her balcony jump up to the roof of the building. She sprinted out and followed him up

Ryker heard cussing and shouting as the officers failed to follow him up the building. He panted with relief as he crawled onto the roof of the building.
"Thank God." He muttered. But as he walked across the roof, his heart sank. He heard footsteps following him. He whipped his head around and let out a squeak of surprise, seeing a redhead girl getting to her feet. Did she follow me? Oh crap, the apartment balcony. "U-uh, hi. You gonna call the officers?" He backed away slowly.

She looked back to see if anyone was following a d help up her hands "what? No I'm not, follow me," she gestured towards the next building over and jumped The gap

"Seriously? Thanks. I'm Ryker. Maybe you saw my cheap performance to stand up to the mayor." Ryker chuckled dryly as he followed her over the gap.

Jake went up a fire escape to a roof then noticed some people.

"no problem, I'm leaving and no I didn't sorry I left before I died of boredom or strangled someone." He smiled back at him and crouched down over the edge of the edge, checking if anyone was in the alleyway below

Ryker thought he heard someone behind them. His ears visibly perked. "I don't blame you. I'm just so angry my parents went missing and the mayor has nothing to say other than, 'smile!'"

"good afternoon." Jake said suddenly appearing behind Ryker. "Don't believe we have met before."

"Nope. But it's two against one if you're a cop. I'm Ryker and I don't know Redhead's name." Ryker gestured towards Lea.

"well it is nice to meet you Ryker. I am Jake, just so you know." Jake said then put an arm on Ryker's shoulder.

Ryker raised his eyebrows but didn't shrug it off. He blew hair out of his face. "Have you lost anyone yet, Jake? Because I have, and I am quite pissed about it."

"yeah both my parents are gone. Dad left when I was younger. Mom disappeared last week." Jake replied

"Sorry 'bout your parents. Both of mine disappeared a few weeks ago. My parents and the mayor certainly weren't friends, but they obeyed the rules. Me, I'm the real troublemaker." Ryker gazed out to the horizon. "Y'know, I wonder if I'm the reason my parents are missing. And if so, I won't sleep until I find them."

"you probably weren't the reason. If you were it would be you that would be gone right now. But hopefully they will be found. Though I don't place any trust in town authorities." Jake replied and sighed.

"That's a good point. I've been thinking of investigating, but the officers won't stop chasing me for the next few days, so I need to lay low. I've been thinking… what if I tried to bring attention to myself and disappear, just to see where everyone is going? On a scale from 1 to 10, how stupid would that be?"

Jake stood in front of him and put his hands on the guy's shoulders. "That would be incredibly idiotic, stupid, also kinda suicide. Just saying"

"So like a 20? That's what I thought." Ryker frowned. "But the mayor is hiding something. Okay, I tried to ignore it before, but you've got ice cream on your nose. However you got it there, I have no idea." Ryker chuckled.

"shit." He mumbled then stepped back and wiped it off.

"Hey Katherine!" Zara said after she had gotten them each a pastry. "Want to go roof hopping?" Zara asked, already climbing up a fire escape.

"Ah, it's nothing. Hey, it sounds like the mayor finally shut up. The sound of peace and quiet is delightful." Ryker remarked, folding his arms. He watched the large crowds disperse. He squinted hard and still saw the mayor smiling as her bodyguards followed her off the stage.

"we should stay here for at least a few more minutes. Just to not get caught." He suggested.

"Good idea. Good idea…" Ryker's voice trailed off. He had more acute hearing than he thought, and could've sworn more people were slinking around the rooftops. "I wonder if the mayor's mouth hurts from smiling so much."

"I know mine does. But for all we know she could have had surgery to make a permanent smile." Jake joked.

"Ha! I bet. Now, on a scale from 1 to 10, how stupid would it be to break into the headquarters?"

"a 20 if you go alone. 10 maybe if I come with you."

"Ah. Well, the bodyguards all wear those blue uniforms. We could try our luck stealing them. Get some blueprints of the building. We could destroy this happytown, J. Do you mind if I call you that?" Ryker forgot if his name was Jack or Jake, but couldn't admit it.

"great idea. And no I don't mind" Jake said then observed below.

"See any officers? It would be a pity to get arrested before we can find my parents and your mom." Ryker glanced below as well.
