Lucas buried his red face in his hands. "Your parents are gonna kill us, aren't they?" He sighed. Honestly, of course he wished they were dating. Now was just kind of a bad time.

"N-no not really, we're just stuck in a bad place. We just need to find the rope to get out of the hole." She nodded to herself, trying to think of some way for them to fix their current situation. "Like we said before, we just got to be careful."
Lucas nodded, slowly removing his hands from his face and moving one up to toy with his hair. "Yeah… we'll be careful… how do we do that?"
Pausing at the bottom of the stairs, she looked back to him trying to think. "When I say a couple, what is the first thing you think of? Actually think about this." Melissa hummed, beginning up the stairs once more.
"Um…" Lucas considered for a few seconds. "Two people who hang out a lot because they enjoy each other's company romantically? Going to special places one on one, all the touchy feely things…"
(Lucas: Oh you know, our relationship)
(:P Lol)
"Then we be careful not to do that. We'll go out in groups of three. Not all the time, but some of the time to make it less suspicious." Melissa shrugged, pushing her bedroom door open to go grab his bag. "And we be careful how much hand holding, and hugging we do. It shouldn't be that hard. And the romantic thing, it's basically non-existent, right?"
(Basically)
"Uh…" Lucas flushed red. Fuck. Answer quickly or she'll get suspicIOUS- "Right." He finally replied, trying to get his blush to go away before Melissa returned.
Trying to relax her tight jaw, she plastered a smile on her face with his bag over his shoulder. "Then this should be a piece of cake." Melissa chirped, leaving her door open just slightly. You need to just forget your dreams, you got your reassurance.
Lucas had been unsuccessful in hiding his red face and he felt guilty for lying, which he transferred into avoiding eye contact and fidgeting nervously. "Y-Yeah… piece of cake…" He said weakly.
"You feeling alright?" Something was wrong, causing her to worry deep down. Was it something she had said? "You don't look too great, can I get you anything?"
Lucas nodded. "Um… yeah, I-I'm fine. Why?" He asked, knowing that he must've looked like a nervous wreck.
(Lucas: clearly lying about it not being romantic at all
Melissa: He must be sick aha)
(Honestly this whole thing needs a meme page-)
Giving him an odd look, she shook her head with a sigh. "You just look… off I guess." She shrugged slightly, trying not to think about anything as of the moment. "Where do you want your bag?"
(I mean yeah)
"Uh… I-I can just… take it…" Lucas said awkwardly, accepting his bag from Melissa. "I'll just leave it… downstairs…" He took a couple steps back and hesitated before going back downstairs.
Watching him go, she felt completely numb. Too busy being sorry for herself, she missed the clear signs he was giving. Though for being so self involved, she half deserved it. With a heavy sigh, she forced herself to follow him down the stairs. He's out of your league anyways. So she decided to move on, as of the moment at least.
(Melissa: He's out of my league
Lucas: Literally an emotional wreck who doesn't even think he deserves love anyways)
Lucas tossed his bag on the couch and groaned softly, mentally kicking himself for being such an idiot. She's definitely gonna know I like her now…
(Lucas: She's definitely gonna know I like her now…
Melissa: An oblivious child)
"Seriously Lu, what's wrong?" Melissa asked, watching him. "Something is bugging you, what is it?" Hands on her hips, she was already frustrated with herself, whatever was wrong with him wasn't helping. "If you don't want to talk about it, just say so. Don't tell me you're fine when you're not."
(Yep)
Lucas looked up at Melissa, a little confused and surprised. "I-I just… you seem upset about something, and I'm being really stupid and I'm making things worse, and you just seem to be off whenever we have these kinds of conversations…"
Freezing in place just slightly, she shook it off by crossing her arms over her chest. "I'm fine, it's just an odd thing to talk about I guess. Don't beat yourself up about nothing." Melissa shrugged, sitting on the arm of the couch.
"B-But I'm just… I'm making everything worse with all this!" And I've been lying to you this whole time, and I feel horrible about it. "I'm upsetting you and your parents and I'm just ruining everything!"
"Lucas," Melissa said softly, pushing herself up and walking over to him. "Come on, you aren't ruining anything. You should know better than that. I'm just being difficult. I should be apologizing to you." Whispering, she rested her hands on either one of his shoulders in a comforting manner. Too bad for less physical contact.
"I am ruining everything!" Lucas insisted, growing more stressed. "My stupid emotions are controlling me again and I'm just screwing everything up!"
"Lucas." She said firmly, looking into his eyes. "You are not ruining anything. I don't know what's going through your head, but something isn't right on your perspective. What are you seeing that I'm not?"
(Mmmmmmmmmmm I'm gonna do it)
"B-Because I do like you and you probably hate me and that's why you get uncomfortable when we talk about it! And your parents are gonna kill me and I'm gonna be living on the streets!" Lucas buried his red face in his hands, noticeably trembling.
(Honestly, the vibes here were too good to pass up)
Melissa's heart stopped in her chest completely, her jaw dropping. The whole room seemed to spin, as she stumbled back from him. One hand was held to her mouth, and the other was supporting her as she leaned against the couch. A hard lump grew in her throat, she couldn't believe it. "L-Lucas…" She said softly, glancing up to him.
(I mean yeah)
"I-I'm sorry, Mel… I'm so sorry… I… I-I should just go…" Lucas stammered, pulling himself to his feet and trying to leave.
"Wait, no!" She squeaked, forcing herself up to take his hand. "P-please don't go. I… I…" Words seemed to be failing her, getting caught in the back of her throat.
Lucas's hand shook in Melissa's grasp and he paused. "I-I'm really sorry, Mel… I… I'm just making things worse…"
"Lucas! Please just wait. Listen to me, for just one second!" She begged him weakly, not reaching out to touch him again. He would only just pull away.
Lucas hesitated before turning to look at Melissa, his face still very red. "R-Really, I… I should go… I'm sorry Melissa…"
Giving up trying to reason with him, she pulled his arm so he would come back to her. Standing on her toes, she slid her arms around his neck and rested her forehead against his. "I need you to listen for just a minute. Do you think you can do that for me?"
