"I'm just teasing you, Lucas. I don't actually have anything right now." Melissa hummed softly, kissing his cheek before curling up.
"I'm just teasing you, Lucas. I don't actually have anything right now." Melissa hummed softly, kissing his cheek before curling up.
Lucas nodded a bit, holding Melissa close. "W-Well, if you think of anything… let me know, alright?"
“I can do that, love.” Melissa smiled softly, looking up at him from her spot curled up next to him. “I love you.”
"Love you too, Mel." Lucas kissed Melissa softly and buried his face in her shoulder. "I love you more than I could ever say…"
Melissa smiles softly, starting to gently run her fingers through his hair. “Mm, is that so?” She asked lightly, kissing the top of his head.
Lucas nodded and relaxed at Melissa's touch, huddling closer to her. "Mhmm… I'm still as bad of a liar as ever, darling…"
“I know you are, Lu.” Melissa whispered, giving a little smile. “But I just want to make sure. One of these days it’s gonna change on me.”
Lucas laughed softly. "I doubt it… I've always been terrible at lying. It just feels so bad…" He fidgeted a bit.
“Mm, you say that now…” Melissa continued to tease, nuzzling up against him. “But honestly I’m happy that you don’t lie to me.”
"Mhmm… not anymore. I hate hiding things from you." Lucas sighed, keeping his face buried in Melissa's shoulder.
“Well, you can tell me anything. You won’t lose anything by telling me what’s going on.” Melissa whispered, resting her head against his.
"Well, I can't always think of everything… I end up leaving things out since they slip my mind at the time."
"I know, but if something is bugging you, you can tell me." Melissa replied softly with a sigh. "I just… I wanna make up for not being there."
Lucas nodded a bit. "It's still not your fault, Melissa… I don't blame you and I never will."
"I know, Lucas. I still feel the need to make it up to you." Melissa whispered, kissing him a few times.
Lucas sighed softly as he returned the kiss. "Alright… um… I'm trying to think of something to tell you in particular…" He murmured. "Um… any ideas? Even just general ballpark stuff is helpful…"
"What do you mean? Like, about yourself?" Melissa asked softly, tipping his chin up just a bit. "Or to tell me to stop worrying."
"Mostly about my situation that I've forgotten to tell you thus far…" Lucas looked up at Melissa meekly. "But I also want you to stop worrying, of course."
"I really don't have anything, Lu. You don't have to keep telling me stuff…" Melissa whispered, kissing him once again. "Unless you really want to… you could always talk about happy memories."
"Mm… I guess that works." Lucas hummed thoughtfully. "The sunflower field is a big one… we used to tend to it as a family and Claus and I played in there a lot."
"Is there a specific memory from there that you like?" Melissa asked softly, starting to trace circles into him. "Like, something good you really liked?"
"Mm… there were a lot of good memories there. I remember specifically when we planted it. We tended to it for years to get it to where it is now."
"Well, it's beautiful. And all your hard work paid off." Melissa hummed, kissing him softly. "We definitely need to go back."
Lucas nodded a bit. "Yeah… I also came here a lot after my dad hurt me." He looked around the clearing quietly. "I spent many hours crying right where we're sitting. I never allowed myself to climb the tree in that state. I was worried that I'd go too high and… um… tempt myself, I guess."
Melissa's heart seemed to have skipped a beat, and her shoulders tensed a little. "I… yeah, I'm glad you didn't…" She whispered softly, trying to swallow the awful feeling she got whenever something like that was brought up.
"I-I'm sorry, I just… feel like you deserve to know everything…" Lucas sighed. "I never did, obviously, but I unintentionally fell out a few times…"
Melissa nodded a little, glancing up to him. "You… you haven't felt like that… recently, have you?" She tried her best to keep the worry off her face, but wasn't doing too great.
"Um… once or twice, y-yeah…" Lucas admitted weakly. "B-But nowhere near as much as I used to…"
Melissa felt her heart drop in her chest. In reality, she knew it wasn't physically possible for her to fix all his problems. But she really wanted to have been able to. "Right… yeah."
"I'm sorry, Melissa…" Lucas sighed, burying his face in her shoulder again. "I-I promise I'm trying really hard…"
