@Fraust

"Melissa… you took me out of my abusive father's home and took me in yourself. And you got me a puppy. I'm pretty sure that tops taking you home on the bus."

@Fraust

"Of course I do. But I know you need it, and I'm happy to oblige. I want to make sure you're comfortable asking for help when you need it. I'm working on that too."

@Fraust

"I trust you too, Mel…" Lucas gently kissed Melissa. "I think we're almost home, but I could be wrong."

@Fraust

"I wish… but I can't skip practice entirely. I trust you to take great care of Cody while I'm gone." Lucas kissed Melissa's cheek with a weak smile.

@Fraust

"I'll try my best, Mel." Lucas pulled Melissa close. "And I'll call you if anything happens, okay? And you and your dad can come pick me up if you need to."

@Fraust

"Alright, darling. I will. We're here." He looked up when the bus stopped. "I'll stay on so I can head back to school. Be safe, hang out with Cody, eat food, and drink lots of water!" He waved, smiling softly.

Melissa gave him a little smile in return, standing on her toes to kiss him. "I'll do my best. Love you." She started to pull back, carrying her bag with her as she headed off the bus with a wave.

@Fraust

"Love you too." Lucas returned the kiss and waved with a soft sigh. Hopefully the bus could make it back to school pretty soon. He was planning on getting out and just running once they were close enough.

Melissa had gotten off the bus, and started off on the path back to her house with a light sigh. She knew she shouldn't have asked him to come. But he had offered, and quite frankly she really wanted him to come. Now all she could think about was him, worrying over what his coach would say to him.

@Fraust

Lucas eventually made it back to school, although he had to run a couple blocks from a different bus stop to save some time. He explained the situation to his coach once he got there, and then started practicing. At one point during practice, he got incredibly lightheaded and collapsed. He never quite fell unconscious, but he was very out of it. His teammates dragged him into the shade and gave him some water, making sure he was stable before they continued.

(I'm assuming we'll want to skip sometime soon?)

Melissa pushed those thoughts in the back of her mind, as she came up to the house. After unlocking the door, and pushing it open, she made her way to the back deck after dropping her bag by the stairs. Quietly she made her way through the kitchen, and reached the back door with a light sigh before pushing it open. "Cody?" She called out, smiling a little when she saw the puppy starting to run up to her from his place in the yard. "Hey boy, how are you?"

@Fraust

(Probably yeah lol)
After he was a little more present, Lucas pulled out his phone to call Melissa. Coach didn't think he was in a state that he could play for a couple hours at least anyway. He typed in her number and held the phone up to his ear.

(Lol)

Melissa had taken Cody inside with her, and had made her way up to her bedroom. She hadn't bothered to say hello to her father, feeling too drained to do anything but just lie on her bed. But when she heard her phone ringing, she groaned a little pulling it out of her back pocket. "Mm, hello?" Melissa greeted in a groggy tone as she sat up to pet Cody.

@Fraust

"Hey, Mel… Coach doesn't really want me playing right now. I sorta kinda collapsed, but I never actually passed out, so it's not that bad… I've got water now and stuff, so I'm probably okay. I just wanted to let you know in case you and your dad wanted to come pick me up. If not, that's fine, I'm fine to walk. I just figured you'd wanna know."

Melissa's was having a hard time registering what he was saying, but after a couple of seconds everything clicked. "Wait- what? Lucas- are you okay?! Is this because you didn't eat lunch?" She asked weakly, pushing off her bed to go get her father. "I knew it- you shouldn't have stayed with me. Why did I let you stay?" Melissa muttered to herself, lightly pushing Mr. Brennahan's office door open.

@Fraust

"No, no, it's my own fault… I wasn't drinking enough and I ran a couple blocks to just get to practice. Then I guess I was overexerting myself to try and make up for being late… it's not your fault, Mel." Lucas exhaled shakily and drank some more of his water. He was trembling a bit and was pretty pale, both of which could be attributed to his dehydration and low blood sugar.

“But you being late was my fault. You came with me, and then you had to run to practice.” Melissa replies weakly, catching the attention of Mr. Brennahan when she started speaking. “We’ll be there in a few minutes. I love you, hang tight.”

@Fraust

"Please don't blame yourself, Mel…" Lucas leaned back against the tree he was sitting beside and finished his water bottle. He had a couple more with him, which he figured he was going to need to utilize.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

“It’s too late for that.” Melissa mumbled a bit, pulling her phone from her ear. “Dad, Lucas needs a ride home from practice. Is there any way you could possibly drive me to go get him?” She asked softly, glancing up from looking at her phone. Mr. Brennahan gave her a concerned look as he stood up from his place. “Of course, is everything alright?”

@Fraust

Lucas closed his eyes as he opened another bottle and started drinking it. He was feeling somewhat better, but still very shaky. He knew he'd probably need to eat something before he'd actually start feeling better.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

"Yeah, everything's fine. Lucas just got light-headed at practice, and needs a ride home. Are you really alright taking me?" Melissa asked softly, pocketing her phone and reaching down to pick Cody up. "Yeah, of course, sunshine." Mr. Brennahan told her softly, mentally noting that she seemed off. Gently he led her out of his office and down the stairs. "Thanks, dad. Honestly, for everything." Melissa told him lightly, picking up her pace and still holding on to Cody.
Grabbing his leash, and her shoes, Melissa quickly made her way out the door behind Mr. Brennahan and got in the backseat of the car. It was only a matter of minutes until they pulled up to the school.

@Fraust

Lucas was still out on the baseball field, but had drifted into unconsciousness. He had a few empty bottles of water around him on the grass and he still seemed quite pale. It was very hot out today. He was slumped up against a tree and seemed weak. His teammates didn't notice anything different in him, and since he'd been drinking lots of water, they just kept practicing.

@Rainy_day_artist_classic group

Pushing out of her seat, Melissa set Cody down where she had been sitting before shutting the door. "I'll be right back," Melissa told Mr. Brennahan, before turning and pulling up a smile. Quietly she passed through the field, waving a bit to some of his teammates in an effort to be polite. When she had caught sight of Lucas she let out a soft sigh and came up next to him. "Lu?"

@Fraust

"Mmmmm…" Lucas stirred a bit and looked up at Melissa weakly. He was panting a bit from the heat and tried to push himself up a bit when he saw Melissa. "Is it time to go…?" He asked, his voice quiet.
