"Alright, I'll do my best." Melissa told him softly, lifting her head to kiss him softly. "And I do feel safe coming to you."
"Alright, I'll do my best." Melissa told him softly, lifting her head to kiss him softly. "And I do feel safe coming to you."
"That's good to hear…" Lucas rested his head against Melissa's and sighed. "We're almost home, right?" He asked.
"Mm… probably…" Melissa mumbled a little, pulling her legs up on the back seat, and resting a hand on his chest.
Lucas flushed a bit and closed his eyes, his heart pounding. "Um… d-do you want to do something when we get back?" He asked.
"I don't have anything specific…" Melissa mumbled a bit, nuzzling in to him a bit more. "Eating, obviously."
Lucas nodded, flushing harder. "Sounds good, Mel… I'd say we could sit outside with Cody, but I'm not sure it's wise for me to hang out outside again at the moment."
Melissa nodded a little, starting to gently trace circles into him mindlessly. "Probably not a good idea. Maybe later, though. Once you've eaten and cooled down."
"Right…" Lucas was pretty flushed by now, but he didn't acknowledge it. "W-What should we eat?" He asked softly.
Lifting her head a little, she realized that he was a little more red than he had been earlier. "I… I'm not sure." Melissa said softly, starting to pull back from him.
Lucas fidgeted a bit. "Um… maybe fruit, since it's got sugar? And I need to get my blood sugar up and stuff…"
A light smile pulled up on her face, and she nodded. "Alright, that sounds good to me. Maybe we could make smoothies or something."
Lucas nodded a bit, his blush steadily fading. "Sounds good. I think we're here." He looked out the window.
Melissa followed his gaze, nodding a little. "Yeah, looks like it." She told him lightly, leaning over to kiss him.
Lucas flushed a bit and nodded as well. After a few seconds of hesitation, he opened the door and grabbed Cody's leash to take him inside.
Coming around to the trunk, she pushed it open and started pulling Lucas's things out. "Why don't you go and lie down until I've gotten them ready, then? Maybe after you could go take a cool shower."
"Alright, sounds good…" Lucas sighed and reluctantly allowed Melissa to carry his things. At least they weren't very heavy. He headed inside and flopped down on the couch with Cody.
Slinging his bag over her shoulder, she nodded lightly and started up to the house after him. "Where do you want this?" Melissa asked lightly, smiling down to both the boys.
"Anywhere is fine, honestly…" Lucas closed his eyes and rubbed Cody's ears gently. "Just next to the couch is fine with me."
"Alright, then." Melissa nodded, setting it down close to him. Reaching out, she unhooked Cody's leash to put away. "Do you care what kind of smoothies I make?"
"Nah, I'm not picky… thanks, Mel." Lucas offered her a weak smile, still petting Cody while he lay back on the couch.
"M'kay. You relax then." Melissa hummed, kissing his forehead before disappearing into the other room. Mr. Brennahan came in the house right after Melissa had walked off, and glanced over to Lucas. "Is there anything I can do for you?"
"N-No sir, thank you… I'm alright." Lucas looked up at Mr. Brennahan, flushing lightly. "I'm pretty used to this kind of thing, actually, except my dad didn't come pick me up. I just walked back, usually, but I figured that's not very healthy."
Seemingly distracted, Mr. Brennahan nodded a little. "Right… um, I- I should probably go talk to Melissa. Is she in the kitchen?" He asked lightly, not wanting to be rude. But he was currently concerned about what Lucas had said earlier. And with everything he had heard in the car, his alarm had increased.
"Yeah, she's in the kitchen. Making smoothies, I think…" Lucas ran his fingers through his hair and closed his eyes again so the lights wouldn't bother him so much.
Mr. Brennahan nodded a little, walking off into the kitchen after her. Soft talking could be heard, followed by the blender whirring for a minute or so. But when it shut off, the talking had also seemed to stop. And it seemed to stay like that for a couple of minutes. When Melissa could be heard talking softly again, it mostly sounded like she was crying, with Mr. Brennahan trying to relax her.
"I'm going to take Lucas his smoothie, and I'll be right back. Is that alright, sweetheart?" Mr. Brennahan asked her softly, picking up the glass to carry out to Lucas. Melissa only nodded in return, unable to do much more.
So with a light smile, he kissed her forehead before coming back into the living room. "Here you are, Lucas. You sure there's nothing else I can do?"
Lucas sat up, looking over at the kitchen worriedly when he heard crying. "Is Melissa okay?" He asked Mr. Brennahan softly, accepting the smoothie from him. "Should I go help? Is there anything I can do? I'll be fine, I've dealt with way worse than this… but she sounds upset." Cody stretched and looked up at Mr. Brennahan curiously from where he was laying.
Mr. Brennahan gave Lucas a little smile, trying to reassure him. "She'll be alright, I promise you. You don't need to get up." He insisted in a light tone, reaching down to scratch behind the puppy's ears. "You just sit here and drink your smoothie. You've already done plenty to help."
"Are you sure?" He asked nervously. "I-I don't want to just stay here if she wants me in there…" He drank some of his smoothie, tapping one foot on the ground anxiously. He kept petting Cody with his free hand.
"I'm sure, Lucas. I'll come get you if she wants to be with you." Mr. Brennahan told Lucas softly, lightly ruffling his hair. "Right now I can handle it. She's gonna be alright. You don't need to worry." Giving a little smile, he started to pull back to head into the kitchen.
Lucas hesitated before nodding, allowing Mr. Brennahan to walk back into the kitchen without him. He kept drinking his smoothie, hoping to get his blood sugar up so he could go help Melissa better.
