The land of Ivrul, a place of mystery, power…and war. Ever since the Empire of Breorenth had arrived, the old ways changed. The natives of Ivrul were brought under the Empire's rule, forced to abandon their old ways and customs.
Anyone caught practicing the old ways, were imprisoned, most often executed. Yet, that did not keep the native residents from trying. Many of the holds eventually gave up, accepting the rule of the Empire.

In this strange land, lived beasts thought only to exist in legends. A certain area of the land, known as: Okulomkodinok. A dark and mysterious area, not much is known about it.
Only the bravest souls venture forth into this unknown world. Most never return. Those who do, most often come back not alone. A pact beast, now stands by their side.
A pact beast, any beast thought to only be in legends; the griffin, a golem, or perhaps even a kelpie?
There were many creatures, but the most powerful of these, was the dragon. However, very few dragons existed now, and many have gone into hiding.

Yet, like anything else in this world, there was always a downside. To make a pact with a beast, a human pays the price for it in the form of some attribute (their voice, eyesight, ability to age, etc.).
A man who agrees to a pact, is 'branded'. The mark is usually in the shape of the pact beast. It is also most often located upon the part of the body that was related to said now lost attribute. No one really knows why this happens.
Once becoming pact partners, man and beast have their souls tied together, their single lives, now becoming one. Though, since now they are one, whatever one feels, the other shall feel their partner's pain, etc. If one were to die, the other shall soon follow. Such is another terrible price of the pact.

The few holds left managed to come together, forming the group known as: The Rangers of Ironspire. This group of rebels is led by a man known as B'rant.
B'rant is no ordinary man. He is one of very few to have made a pact with a dragon, not to mention the only one known to still exist during these dark times.
He does not tell how he managed to get such a powerful pact beast. Nor does the dragon known as Fanth let on to how B'rant and he came to join their souls.

As the bloody civil war rages on, little does either side know, there is one thing which is keeping the world from falling into complete chaos…a woman, but no ordinary woman.
She, is the seal, the goddess vessel. Within her, she carries the power of a goddess, yet she does not know it. Innocent and naïve, the young woman is in danger.
If the Empire were to find out and capture her, they would surely kill her, believing that with her death, the rebels would fall. The Empire would be given immense power, the power to destroy and do whatever they pleased.
Unlike the Empire, the Rangers will learn that if she were to die, it would only release a corruption upon the land, destroying humanity forever. They will have one duty, to protect the Goddess Seal with their lives, or die trying.

But how will they know who she is?
All pact beasts are connected with the gods and goddesses. They will hear the silent pleas, even if the humans do not. The creatures know who she is, and will sought her out, for it is their sacred duty.

Now it is a race, a race to either protect, or destroy the 'Goddess'.
Will the Rangers of Ironspire succeed in protecting her, or will the Empire crush the rebellion?
Which side will you choose to carry forth their cause?

RULES
~Fighting and bloodshed, its gonna happen, this is a war
~Swearing and adult themes (mainly violence and gore)
~Absolutely NO godmodding (includes auto-hitting another person's charrie, controlling someone else's character, etc.)
I see any of this, I will let you know, and if you keep doing it, I will ask you to leave. I will let it slide however, if you have permission from the owner of another's character
~Multiple characters are allowed
~You must wait for 2 people to post before you are allowed to post again. Too often does a group RP turn into a 1x1 and kills the RP
~Posting, take your time
I understand RL comes first. Sometimes takes me a few days before I am able to post again
~If you are going to be gone for a lengthy amount of time, PM me
~Most of all…HAVE FUN!!!

OTHER INFO
This a semi-literate to literate RP. This means at least 3 paragraphs a post. It really isn't much to ask for.
The idea I have is that this may be divided into different 'chapters'. We will see if there is anyone interested

You may play as pact partner and pact beast, or ask another if they will be your character's partner in the RP

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me
Thank you

If you read through everything, the first line you respond with if interested: 'Two minds, One heart.'

@MonocarpicCathartic

Two minds, One heart.

So I've been trying to create the perfect characters for this thread since about three days ago, and I wasn't going to respond until I had them, but I have a couple of questions that will sort of determine the outcome of those characters, so… Hi! I really love this idea and I don't know why a bunch of people haven't already signed up for it, but I'm going to use the opportunity to hopefully benefit myself and you by signing up! My two main questions:

  1. Do the pact beasts and bonded humans have the same powers, or are these subject to changes?

  2. Would it be possible for a bonded human to have a sort of nullification ability, in which anyone who wandered within a certain radius of him wouldn't be able to use magic while in that radius? They'd be otherwise unaffected, but I thought it'd be good to check with you first.

@MonocarpicCathartic

Oh, just real quick to add onto the previous questions, would you mind elaborating slightly on how a pact is made? Do the creatures speak to the humans? Do they attack anyone who wanders across them?

Also, what exactly were "the old ways"? Is it the practice of magic, or a religion, maybe?

@Dragoncita group

Oh, so there is finally a bit of interest?
most likely the fact I have found many of the RPers on this particular site only able to write 2 to 4 lines, and seem to be turned off by semi-lit to literate posts.

As for answering your questions;

Reply to 1; I would prefer them having same abilities. B'rant and Fanth being a good example, both able to wield and control fire

Reply to 2; I am completely fine with that, a human and beast being able to nullify magic like you have explained
Depending on the creature, usually sometimes something will draw a beast and human together. Sometimes these reasons are known, other times unknown. I have another character who has bonded with a creature, I might bring them into this RP, but as an example; Tybalt was severely injured during a battle, and wandered to the outskirts of the area. Felan, an alpha wolf demon, found the man having followed the scent of blood and death. There, he offered Tybalt the chance to live, but it would mean making a pact with the beast, which Tybalt did agree.
Most often though, when a creature is drawn to a human, it will speak to said human

Reply to 3; 'Old Ways' does indeed refer to magic and religion. As the people of the original lands worship different/multiple gods and goddesses. As for the empire, it would prefer eradicating all of that, and try to 'modernize', bringing the holds under the rule of the Empire and the Empire's leader whom they themselves consider a sacred individual.

@Yamatsu

Two Minds, One Heart
Ooh, I had the BEST idea!

Username: @Yamatsu
Name: Guinevere
Empire or Rangers: Rangers
Age: 84 (looks like she's in her mid-30s)
Gender: Female
Pact Beast: Gawain
Price of the Pact: Loss of aging
Where is your mark located?: Lower abdomen
Powers/Magic: Fireproof body, increased strength and durability
Weapons and Equipment:
Sieglinde Rose: Queen's Venom
Olympus Wheel: Olympus Wheel
Drake Cannon: Drake Cannon
Dragoon Lance: Dragoon Lance
Weakness: Big and slow, generally an easy target due to her appearance.
Bio/history: Grew up in the steppes outside of the vast Shiaran Desert, and was named after a stranger that blew into town during a financial crisis and ended up averting a total economic collapse from the trading ships and their special inflating currency. She became a huntress under the Hunters Guild after her town was decimated by monsters. As she was scouting the mountains during what should have been a routine gathering run, she chanced upon a dragon named Gawain. Instead of killing each other (as humans and dragons tended to do at the time), they instead decided to set aside their differences for a few minutes to simply hang out and watch the rolling clouds. Eventually, their meetings became more common and their affinity for one another grew. They were fast friends until the other hunters found out what she was doing and reported back to the Caravaneer. Guinevere was unceremoniously kicked out, so she decided to find and live with Gawain. They ended up creating a pact that functioned more like a marriage, and eventually bore a child into the world, thus sealing the pact.
Appearance:

Username: @Yamatsu
Name: Gawain
Age: 350 (very early twenties in "dragon years," measured by the rings on his horns)
Species: Earth Dragon
Human Partner: Guinevere
Powers/Magic: Geokinesis, fireproof scales
Equipment:
Powder Horn: https://www.notebook.ai/plan/items/49360#
Bio/history: Aeons ago (about 300 years, but it felt like aeons to him), Gawain escaped his criminal family in hopes of using his powers for something other than petty theft. He lived in a secret city, full of dragons and a thriving society. However, his family, led by his grandmother the Matriarch, instead used their safe haven as a way to rob others and try to build a criminal empire. However, Gawain was the runt of the litter, meaning he was sent into dark mineshafts to try and use his magic to dig for gold and jewels instead of playing with the other dragonets or even working with his family. After many years, he finally was used to rob a bank by tunneling underneath the safe and digging from the other side of the vault door. He left that night after an existential conversation with himself, upon which he realized that he could be destined for far greater things. Too bad the humans outside of his city would either run in fear or try to kill him.
However, during an excursion in the mountains to find smooth river stones for his Hoard, he chanced upon a human woman. This wasn't like any human he'd ever seen before, though. Exceedingly tall and muscular, fair of features, fiery red hair, he was captivated on sight. Their meetings soon became more frequent, and she eventually came to live with him in his mountain home after he learned she was excommunicated from her homeland. They ended up forming a pact which seemed more like a marriage, and sealed it upon bearing a child into the world.

(Use the pictures I put in as something like "general approximations" of their appearances, I'll eventually get better art for them.)

Well, I started out on a literate roleplay website, and I was there for about three years before I came here, so long paragraphs is something I'm used to!

As for answering your questions;

Reply to 1; I would prefer them having same abilities. B'rant and Fanth being a good example, both able to wield and control fire

Alrighty! This isn't a big game changer or anything for my character—I asked mainly out of curiosity.

Reply to 2; I am completely fine with that, a human and beast being able to nullify magic like you have explained

Nice! Thank you! <3

Makes sense; this actually fits the backgrounds I have so far pretty well.

Again, makes sense. They probably don't want a bunch of citizens that are able to overthrow them and all that.

Thanks for answering my questions! I'll get back to you when my characters are created!

@Yamatsu

I don't know. I think someone would have to godmod it so that you have to say the same command over and over while it's scratching itself or kickflips you off of a cliff.

@MonocarpicCathartic

I don't know. I think someone would have to godmod it so that you have to say the same command over and over while it's scratching itself or kickflips you off of a cliff.

It'd only be fair… XD

@Dragoncita group

Ah, I know the creature you speak of, it always did remind me of a griffin-like beast. I've never played the game, but I've seen a playthrough and would love to play it. By the same creators of Shadow of the Colossus if I remember, and I absolutely adored that game on my old PS2
I wouldn't necessarily say the beast would need to be godmodded, if the owner of the character knows how the creature acts and such. No harm in making something your own

@MonocarpicCathartic

You're awesome—thank you! And yes, it was made by the same creators of Shadow of the Colossus. I haven't yet played it for myself, but I watched a playthrough of The Last Guardian on YouTube, and I fell in love. As for making it my own, I'm probably not going to do much to change the appearance or anything, but he wouldn't be able to shoot lightning from its tail like in the game, and he'd eat meat instead of magical barrels, since those are in pretty low supply.

@Yamatsu

I mean, the lightning tail wouldn't be too bad, considering mine can literally move mountains and Dragoncita's can control fire (presumably in all of its many forms).

@MonocarpicCathartic

Yeaaahh, but I kind of already gave the other character I'm making control over lightning (bonded with a thunderbird) and I'd rather give the other a different set of powers. I should have them up by (hopefully) tonight, so you'll see what I mean then!

@MonocarpicCathartic

Username: MonocarpicCathartic

Name: Taron

Side: Empire

Age: Twenty-six

Gender: Male

Pact Beast: Asani

Price of the Pact: Loss of sanity.

Mark Location: Branded right on his forehead.

Powers/Magic: Control of lightning

Weakness (At least 1): The price of his pact with the thunderbird resulted in the loss of his sanity, meaning he’s incredibly prone to hallucinations and seizures at any given time. Paranoia, disorientation, and sudden, severe migraines are also symptoms of this, and can result in him being at a significant disadvantage when facing off against enemies.

Bio/history: Taron was a member of the guard for the Empire long before he met the thunderbird he made a pact with. He was known for his merciless compliance with the law, and for being a strict enforcer whenever he caught someone disobeying. He used to be steadfast and unwavering with his decisions, until the day he set out with some men to hunt down a band of rebels on the edge of Empire territory. He followed them all the way into an unknown land—one he would later learn was called “Okulomkodinok”—even venturing into a massive cave he’d tracked the rebels to. From the moment he and his men entered the cave, only Taron was destined to leave. Of all the things the man had been expecting to walk into, an angry, gigantic bird with electricity crackling off its feathers was not one of them. To this day, Taron doesn’t know why Asani let him and only him survive, but the thunderbird’s reasoning must’ve had something to do with the words he’d spoken that day. "You look death in the eye without so much as a flinch. You're either very brave or very stupid," he had crowed. "How would you like to become stronger?

Appearance: (picture a brand on his forehead)

Other: His preferred weapon is a metal spear that can conduct electricity. He can throw it and use it as a lightning rod.

Username: MonocarpicCathartic

Name: Kallin (Kal)

Side: Rangers

Age: Nineteen

Gender: Male

Pact Beast: Fallon

Price of the Pact: Loss of independent mobility. (He can't move his legs.)

Mark Location: Located on the side of his right thigh.

Powers/Magic: Nullification

Weakness (At least 1): The price for becoming one with the pact beast made it so that Kal cannot walk without the assistance of his pact beast or another person, making it dangerous for him to be alone. He’s also physically weak and has no magical abilities that actually defend him from physical attacks. He does have great upper body strength, though.

Bio/history: At the age of fifteen, Kal’s parents were imprisoned and then executed as he watched, due to their continued practice of the old ways even after the law forbid it. He was spared from a similar fate by sheer luck, having been out on an errand at the time of their arrest. Devastated, he fled the city later that night, evading guards left and right. He wandered for several month before joining a band of rebels, all deserters of the Empire. For a while they were able to live in relative peace, stealing supplies from caravans and foraging in the woods near the Empire's territory to get by. That is, until word of a small unit of soldiers coming to stop them spread. Immediately they set out, trying to outrun the danger. They didn't expect the unit to follow them as far as they did, into Okulomkodinok and, more specifically, a large cave partially hidden by trees. Had Kal followed them into the cave, he would've been slaughtered. As it so happened, Kal was the only one to object hiding there, since it seemed to him too obvious a place to stay. He'd made the decision to split off from the group and continue east, inadvertently saving his own life. He hadn't made it very far before a voice caught him unaware. "Do you plan to run forever, human?" it had asked him. It wasn't malicious in any way—simply curious, it seemed. So Kal answered, "If that's what it takes to stay alive." He'd been so distracted by the question that he hadn't noticed the hulking creature creep up behind him until it nudged his leg with its snout. "Enter a pact with me, and you won't have to run anymore," it had offered. It didn't take long for Kal to make his decision. Unfortunately, even with the strength of the beast he'd bonded with, they were no match for another newly bonded human and his thunderbird hunting them down. Kal and his pact beast were captured, even in spite of their shared ability to neutralize magic, not long after their meeting. Taron, the guard who'd beaten them, took interest in their ability and decided to bring them back to the Empire. Somehow, the boy couldn't bring himself to regret entering the pact, even after becoming crippled and losing his freedom. Even after he was carted around, used as an advantage against practitioners of the old ways, he couldn't hate Fallon—his newly named pact beast. Especially when the day came, nearly two years later, that the trico was able to break them both out and escape. They flew straight to the Rangers, joining them in an effort to do what they'd planned since forming a pact—fight the Empire.

Appearance:

Other: He’s proficient with a sword, but he can’t dodge well or reach far enough without falling to do any significant damage, so he really only uses it as a last resort or a surprise attack.

@Dragoncita group

That is entirely up to you if you wish Yamatsu

I may make this an OOC chat, as well as if anyone wishes to join, they can simply post their skeletons here.
I am thinking I will create an new thread, that will be Chapter 1 for this RP, as I have an idea of sections for this and how I would like it to be directed so to speak

@Yamatsu

Sounds good to me! Everything has been updated, but Guinevere's weapons are simply options. I can take things or remove things if necessary or if it would be cool for the RP, but I don't expect to use every weapon.

@MonocarpicCathartic

I'm ready to start when you guys are, although by "ready" I mean "I will be tomorrow". I like the idea of starting a new one, though, to start. I don't know how many people we're waiting for or anything. As for weapons and stuff, I think I'm good since I got their go-to choices.

@Dragoncita group

It's all sounds like a plan

I was hoping for a few more people to join first, but seems it may just be us, which I'm not too surprised
I will be working on setting up the first chapter and get it up soonish should life not be too busy

@MonocarpicCathartic

Awesome! And I understand why literate rp might not appeal to people not used to it, but it's also slightly disappointing to see this not getting the recognition it deserves. I'm really looking forward to beginning, but I also don't want you to pressure yourself too much if life is too busy! Good luck with everything—I'll be around.
