So a couple of drunk idiots walk into a bar…

The tavern was dim, dank, and unimaginably loud. The Fat King was known for that. That and the fact that it's message board that seemed like it hadn't been cleared off.. ever, really. Yet, one single sheet of paper caught your eye. The lettering was rough and hard to make out, but it was mostly legible. At least the important parts stood out.
MEMBERS WANTED… TREASURE HUNTER'S GUILD… GET RICH QUICK!

Alright! So, some background information- The Fat King takes place in a medieval high fantasy world, entirely fictional. Magic, monsters, all of that is welcome with open arms. I'm sure you figured that already. The current nation is Briva. The Fat King Tavern, however, happens to reside in Kanborg Waters, a close-knit little swamp village- and a hot spot for wandering travelers looking for a bed to sleep in.

Some ground rules..

  • Come prepared with some kind of adventure when you join. Write it down, pitch it to us, whatever! This is going to be comprised of a bunch of little adventure prompts.
  • Cussing is so much fun. Don't be afraid to cuss, especially if it fits your character. Slurs, on the other hand, will not be tolerated.
  • Drama? Yes! Violence? Sometimes! Chill out with the swords, buddy. Time and a place.
  • Romance is tolerated. Don't make it your focus. Anything more than a kiss gets taken to PMs, no exceptions.
  • If your character feels OP, fix it. Invincibility isn't fun, and neither are one-shot kills, okay? Okay.
  • Grammar wise.. try to be as accurate as possible. Obviously exceptions are made for style and character dialogue, but when it comes to descriptions, please just be clear.
  • Your character can be any fantasy or mythological creature you want, as long as it's vaguely humanoid. No actual animals. Sorry. If you have a preexisting character you want to use, go ahead! Just either post the link to their Notebook profile or fill out the template to fit them.
  • As for the template… it's all optional, but if you don't fill out a space, delete it. It's easier for everyone that way.

Name?- Shadul Hagu

Age (Over 20, please!)?- 34

Gender?- Female

Race/Species?- Half-orc (possibly 2/3)

Orientation?- Bisexual with a male preference, although she doesn't find herself too invested in relationships these days.

Country of Origin?- Briva- Native to Kanborg Waters

Magic? Y/N? If so, how do they practice?- Mostly just hearth magic- performed at home or a stand-in for a home

Current Occupation (if any)?- Skullmonger at the Kanborg marketplace. Yes, she sells skulls specifically. All kinds.

~Appearance~
Skin tone/texture?- Green. Her hands and feet are very calloused.

Hair color/texture/style?- A greenish brown. Shadul keeps her hair in a style similar to dreadlocks.

Height/build?- Around 5'8" and a slightly stockier build, although she's definitely build up some muscle.

Scars/piercings/tattoos?- A small lip scar, multiple ear piercings on both ears and a nose bridge piercing. She has a spiral tattooed on her throat, but that's it.

Face/Eyes/Teeth?- A square face shape and deepset eyes. She has two rather large tusks protruding from her bottom jaw, often inhibiting her from closing her mouth completely.

Clothing preferences?- Shadul prefers to keep covered in an attempt to keep off the humid swamp air. Even though they tend to stick, linens are her favorite fabric as they're nice and cool. Long skirts and lots of layers are her go-to, although shes usually barefoot.

~Background~

Personality?- Loud, brash, blunt, and caring, almost motherly. She'll coddle and feed you like her own child, but if you disrespect her, her family (or percieved family), or her home, Shadul won't hesitate to tear you head clean off your body.

Fears?- Death from disease, feeling trapped, snakes, and losing loved ones

Likes/Dislikes?- Shadul loves anything to do with the home- cooking, sewing, anything like that. She hates laziness, ungratefulness, vanity, and the cold.

Family?- Shadul was born to a large family- 5 brothers and 3 sisters. Many of them moved away, although some live in Kanborg still. Both of her parents died, although it wasn't recently.

Fun Facts!- Shadul makes incredible bread. Like, it's weirdly good, especially for someone who isn't a baker.

Magic? Y/N? If so, how do they practice: yes, mostly water-based magic. she learned most of her spells from books, and others from meditation near bodies of water

Skin tone/texture: light blue
Hair color/texture/style: pale blue and somewhat translucent, seemingly made of water. she keeps it in a short bob, and it doesn't grow.
Height/build: about 5 feet tall with curvy hips and legs and a small torso
Scars/piercings/tattoos: she has many small scars over her arms, legs, and stomach. the tip of her left ear is missing.
Face/Eyes/Teeth: she has a very round face and full lips, as well as larger eyes and a wide nose. her eyes are dark teal
Clothing preferences: Caspian loves layers and more bohemian clothing with lots of patterns. Her clothing is very mismatched.

~Background~
Personality: She is very energetic and outgoing and loves meeting new people. She sometimes forgets about certain social norms, so she can come off as impolite or blunt.
Fears: Caspian has a mild fear of failure that she usually keeps to herself. Her biggest fear, however, is her adoptive father.
Likes/Dislikes: Caspian loves sketching, eating, and the outdoors. She hates being inside for too long and stuck up people.

Family: Caspian doesn't know her mother or father. The only family she knows is her adoptive father, Veric, who she ran away from.

Country of Origin?- "The Wild Lands" (In his case, arid steppes at the foot of a very large mountain range. The Wild Lands is what the human empire calls the space between their empire and Dragon territory)

Magic? Y/N? If so, how do they practice?- Earthbending, primarily somatic components (cast with mental focus and movements similar to martial arts)

Current Occupation (if any)?- Blacksmith/Weaponsmith

Skin tone/texture?- Skin is underneath hard scales that cover his body. Scales are mostly brown with a few flecks of red and amber here and there.

Height/build?- Broad and muscular, pudgy stomach.

Face/Eyes/Teeth?- Jade green eyes; long, angular face and snout; sharp teeth with a few molars in the back.

~Background~

Personality?- Problem solver, but most of his solutions use brute force. Sticks to his guns until he realizes he's wrong, not much that can be done about that once it happens, which has gotten him in serious trouble. Utterly oblivious to love. Always needs some sort of plan in his mind for everything.

Fears?- Failure, bugs.

Likes/Dislikes?- Likes family, metalworking, building ridiculous weapons for fun, food (mostly his mother's cooking).
Dislikes people who would profit off of others' ignorance.

History?- Literally lived under a rock for most of his life, hiding from a world that wouldn't accept his family. Yama was the only Half-Dragon in the world, born from a divine coincidence. His parents had no idea if they would be able to conceive a child, but vowed to protect their son until their dying breath. Fortunately, they haven't decided to keel over yet. Left the mountain in secret to explore and play when he was young and came upon a hunter caravan. He fawned over their weapons, and the blacksmith within the caravan decided to teach Yama the tricks of the trade. He then left the mountain for real a decade later to create his own forge but was called back to his family when news reached them of an impending war between humans, dragons, and wyverns.

Prejudices? Who/what do they hate?- Had a bad experience with a for-profit church, thus coloring his whole perception of religion as a whole. He believes in the ideals that are within the scriptures themselves, just not in the people that try to promote them and fail to stick with their glorious ideals.

Fun Facts!- Earthbending gives him access to the Seismic Sense, allowing him to sense vibrations in solid ground up to 1000' away.
Has a variety of oversized weapons that he had more fun making than using.
Can stand his scales up on end like the fur on a cat, usually happens when he is startled, anxious, or overheating (replaces sweating)

I found a bunch of quests from a list I use for writing, so here are a few that would be interesting:

  • You find a list of 10 names including someone you are close to. The first 4 names are crossed out.
  • You travel to a haunted mansion to clear out some "pests" that the homeowner was talking about. The owner happened to leave out that these "pests" were actually ghosts.
  • A tribe of orcs attacks the town, looking for some sort of artifact they believe to be there.

Or, we could always do an adventure based on a character's backstory!

Magic? Y/N? If so, how do they practice?- She has the ability to disappear in a puff of smoke and reappear anywhere in a 15 foot radius. However, her power is negated if iron touches her skin.

Current Occupation (if any)?- Part-time barmaid at the Fat King (temporary)

Skin tone/texture?- A pale gray that seems to almost sparkle in direct light

Hair color/texture/style?- Long and straight white hair she usually keeps in a braided bun

Height/build?- She’s 5 foot 4 inches, with a thin and willowy build

Scars/piercings/tattoos?- None

Face/Eyes/Teeth?- A heart-shaped face with eyes that seem colorless, but glow bright blue right before she uses her power. Small, slightly pointed teeth.

Clothing preferences?- She prefers darker clothing, wearing thick sweaters and cloaks in blacks and browns, but can’t resist the occasional shiny ring or necklace that she sees, as nymphs love their shinys.

~Background~

Personality?- Nervous and flighty, preferring being called a coward to getting hurt. She can appear unfriendly and aloof, but is scared of commitment and trusting others. ‘When in doubt, run away!’ is pretty much her motto.

Fears?- Opening up to people, having to stand up for herself, getting attached to someone

Likes/Dislikes?- Likes the cold, being outdoors, heights, and her morning runs. Dislikes staying in one place for too long, touching skin (bleck), and snails. Just, snails. Ew.

History?- Her father was a human and her mother a cloud nymph. They met in a tavern and fell in love immediately, with her joining his adventuring party. When her mother realized that she was pregnant, she fled, returning home to Aria and raising Myrin there. Her mother wanted Myrin to make something of herself and sent her down to Briva. So far, Myrin’s done a lot of running away and not much else.

Family?- She talks with her mother regularly through bird communiques, but has never met her father. She doesn’t even know his name, and doesn’t want to. Myrin has a younger sister named Addie who lives with her mother that she adores, but rarely sees.

Prejudices? Who/what do they hate?- She despises ‘heroes’ and the whole idea of standing up and fighting for what you believe in. Myrin pretends it’s about how annoying and insufferable those people are, but she’s actually just scared of doing those kinds of things herself.

Fun Facts!- Myrin has a flute that she can play rather well and keeps a knife on her person to defend herself, though she rarely uses it.

  • Help a phony fortune teller out. Make her predictions come true.
