Rantaro gave Kokichi a small smile when he thanked him, although he didn't see the other needed to thank him for something as simple as friendship. He had been friends with the other for so long, and of course he cared a lot about him due to that. Besides, while he would never admit it, he truly had fallen in love with him.

"Kokichi, you're always going to be my best friend," he responded softly. "You're a good person, y'know? Don't you even argue with me saying that you're a thief. You think that I'm a good person, and I'm a thief, too. You're actually really nice, despite what you may think."

"you sound like your crushing " he teased

Rantaro shook his head to deny the accusation. He seemed to be pretty calm, but he was secretly beginning to get a bit embarrassed since Kokichi seemed to notice his crush on him quickly. It had only developed a little while ago, and yet, he already figured it out, although he would never tell him that.

"I'm not!" he denied. "You're just my best friend."

"defensive people are lying people."

Rantaro shook his head again at the comment, although he knew that Kokichi definitely caught on to the fact that he was lying. He was basically a human lie detector with how often he lied, so it was obvious that he would have seen right through his lies denying that he had a crush on him. Even so, he was going to continue to deny the fact since he wasn't ready to admit it yet.

"I'm telling the truth, Kichi," he argued. "I'm not lying to you."

Kokichi rolled his eyes. But now he had something to test. He held a little tighter to Rantaro "so you like me cuddling into you like this?"

Rantaro sighed softly at the question. He knew that Kokichi was trying to test him, trying to make him flustered until he inevitably revealed his crush, but he wasn't going to let that happen. He was pretty calm under pressure and great at concealing his emotions, so he could use this to his advantage to hopefully get through Kokichi's tests without revealing his crush.

"I mean, I don't mind it," he responded. "Nothing else to say, really."

Kokichi softly kissed at Rantaro's neck "okay," he said, leaving it at that

Rantaro ended up blushing when Kokichi kissed at his neck, so he just hoped that the other wouldn't notice that his face was now tinted red. Of course, he was pretty sure that his friend would quickly notice that, especially since it was pretty obvious. He really wished that it wasn't, but there wasn't anything that he could do about it.

Kokichi smiled at the work he'd done " gotcha " he said softly. Doing it again before relaxing completely in Rantaro's arms

Rantaro looked away from Kokichi as he only blushed more. However, he didn't end up thinking about that for long since they arrived at Shuichi's house only a couple of minutes later. Once they got there, Shuichi led them inside before heading to the kitchen.

"If you two need anything, let me know," he said softly. "I'm gonna make food."

Kokichi had fallen asleep in Rantaro's arms, his almost silent snore echoing

Rantaro laid Kokichi down on the couch before following Shuichi into the kitchen so he could take over the cooking. He didn't need the detective who had saved his best friend's life to continue overworking himself like he seemed to have been. He just wanted to help.

"No, you need to relax," he said softly. "Take his cloak and relax. I can tell that you're tired."

Shuichi sighed softly, but he didn't argue with him in the end as he went into his bedroom to get Kokichi's cloak. He wasn't sure why, but he enjoyed wearing it, so he decided to wear it while he was relaxing.

Kokichi slept for a while, cuddling into a pillow

Shuichi didn't seem to mind that Kokichi slept for a while, and neither did Rantaro. Both of them were rather relieved that he was sleeping so peacefully with everything that had occurred earlier in the day. He seemed to be sleeping peacefully and in a better mood, which was great.

(Ignoring the fact that I got very distracted-)

At some point during the hour, Shuichi and Rantaro felt a tension forming between them, a desire to have Kokichi. Well, it was mostly Rantaro since he was becoming protective of Kokichi. Despite Shuichi letting them both into his house, he didn't trust the detective by any means. He could easily arrest them if he desired, so what if he used a relationship to manipulate him until arresting him? It was a thought that he disliked, so he had to get him to know that Kokichi was his.

It was as he watched Kokichi sleep that memories of one of his other friends came flooding back to him. They were very similar to Kokichi, even in the aspect that they had fallen in love with a detective. That friend ended up being used by the detective, lured into his own arrest through a relationship. He had forgotten originally, hence his immediate trust of Shuichi, but as the memory returned, so did his distrust of detectives. It was what caused him to feel angry with him for possibly liking Kokichi.

"Leave him alone!" he yelled suddenly.

Shuichi stood there, frozen from the momentary surprise. That was a sudden shift in tone from Rantaro. He had typically been rather calm and quiet, allowing Kokichi to sleep peacefully. The sudden outburst was surprising, but he had to go about it carefully. Kokichi was still sleeping, as far as he knew, and he didn't want to wake him up. He needed the sleep, that was for sure.

"I'm not…doing anything…?" he responded, a genuine confusion in his tone.

"You're trying to take him from me!" Rantaro accused. He was still yelling as he did so. "Stop it!"

Shuichi couldn't hold back, and this ended up turning into a pretty big argument as he tried to convince Rantaro that he wasn't trying to do anything to Kokichi, but he never believed him. He only grew more suspicious as this went on, fueling the argument. It seemed that they had forgotten about Kokichi in the end.

Kokichi had been woken up for a bit now “STOP! Stop it!” he yelled, crying heavily

Kokochi stormed out, jumping from the balcony door and taking off to get some space from the two

As soon as Shuichi saw Kokichi rush out of the house, jumping from the balcony to get away as quickly as he could, he couldn't help but run after him. He rushed out of the house without a second thought, not even thinking about the fact that he was wearing Kokichi's cloak at the time. A detail like that didn't matter to him when he wanted to catch up with the other to apologize for what had happened. Besides, he could easily get himself into trouble if he kept running around, which wouldn't be good. He just wanted to protect him.

Kaito, a detective with shuichi, was walking during his night shift. The gun on his hip tapped soundlessly into the night. Then he saw it. The cloak or kokichi ouma. He pulled out his gun and shot absentmindedly, watching the villain fall mid-jump. “?”

While Kaito had been correct about the fact that Kokichi was in the area, he had been mistaken about who was in the cloak that night. It was a dark and cloudy one, so there wasn't much light, and Kokichi's cloak was dark in color. It was hard to tell who was wearing it, which caused him to fire at Shuichi instead of his intended target. Before the detective could process what was going on, the bullet pierced through him, and he collapsed as he began to bleed.

Kaito ran to grab the villain, upon looking though.. It was shuichi. “Shuichi! No!”

Shuichi weakly looked up at Kaito once he saw him running towards him. Was he the one who had shot him? If that was the case, he couldn't be angry with him due to the circumstances. He was wearing Kokichi's cloak, after all, and on a night as dark as that one, it was understandable how he could have been mistaken for Kokichi. However, that didn't change the fact that he was currently bleeding onto the ground and slowly losing consciousness.

"Kai…?" he called out weakly. He didn't bother trying to say much. Even with the circumstances, it was still a bit of a surprise that it was his own best friend who shot him.

Kaito nodded and picked him up gently. “Hospital, now,” he mumbled

Kokichi returned back to rantaro a few hours later, his face soaked in tears

Rantaro immediately wrapped Kokichi in a hug once he saw him. To see Kokichi return without Shuichi was a surprise. Maybe he had been wrong to think that the detective was out to hurt Kokichi with how much he seemed to care about him. He would have to apologize for the argument, although he couldn't apologize to Shuichi until he figured out where he had gone, wherever that was.

"Kokichi…?" he asked softly. "What's wrong…? I never meant to argue… I'm not angry with Shuichi anymore… Speaking of him, where is he…? He ran after you, but he's not here or with you… What happened…?"
