Welcome! I think I'm more of a worldbuilder, plotter, or description-writer…thinking up of characters who have consistent personality or motivations appropriate to the plot is a challenge for me. So, my characters are often expys from works old enough to have gone into the public domain, or alternative interpretations of historical figures who I then give an alias.

Yeah, sometimes I find myself using the same types of characters. But I love writing interesting characters. A friend of mine tho. She makes these hilarious and vibrant characters. SO jealous of her! Also, thanks for the warm welcome!

Oh, it's great to meet newbies!!! I used to write poems (everyone was nice to me, I sucked) but I found I liked creative writing more. Plots are definitely a problem for me, their never much good. Hopefully I'll improve.

Heyo! I'm super into character development too! I'm sorta new here, been here for around 5 months. I'm always down to chat and I'm a pretty decent editor, so hit me up if you need anything!
(If you feel like sharing, I would LOVE to hear about your characters!)

@tungsten fastfood

Hey welcome newbies! I've been around longer than my acc says, so I've been around for over 2 years. If you want an experienced RPer to write with I'm your person ^^

I'm having a hard time coming up with good fantasy kingdom names, though. Any thoughts?

I did a really cool exercise once for naming places!!

First, you take one of the three things that define the name of a place:

  • The people
  • The history
  • The land

I chose to do the land, and created a little city built into a crater thought to be created in a battle between gods, so the local named it the "Holy Crater."
Over time, language in the area changes and crater becomes crahta, changing the name to "Holy Crahta,". Then, the words merge to become "Hulcrahta"
An outside settlement invades, but has trouble pronouncing their A's, and rename it "Hulcreto." They then enact a monarchy, making the city a kingdom, creating "Hulcreto Kingdom."

that being said, it is quite long-winded, and sometimes its easier to just take from other places, (I have a town called Edwards shore, named after King Edward, similarly to James town) or just simply the way it looks (Lutra beach, a beach brimmed with otters on its shore.)

Other than that, generators are a great help !!

@Scrap
