Weeping Spirits

Excerpt from 'Vengeful Spirits' by Itoro Parvin

"A Weeping Spirit is a particular type of vengeful spirit that happens only in very particular circumstances. First, the humanoid in question must be biologically female and have borne children. After that point all that matters is that the children are alive and the humanoid has a partner.

Eventually the partner cheats, and in a fit the humanoid will kill the children and then themselves. It is well known that the spirits of children take time to pass on as they have less understanding of what has happened to them, and by this process when the humanoid passes as well the spirits of the children are still present.

At this point we can only guess what happens as we have, understandably, not been able to ethically study this phenomena. But our research suggests that the spirit of the humanoid and those of the children become one through some method, leading to an angry spirit who seeks revenge against the cheating partner.

But that revenge is not enough, and these spirits wander around where they died taking anyone they can along the way. Many are known to haunt cemeteries, we think waiting for the spirits of the deceased to take into themselves as it has been observed that the longer a Weeping Spirit exists the stronger they become.

The name comes from the fact that these spirits cry out in the night, weeping as the various energies that make up such a spirit cry out in a combination of pain, sorrow, and other emotions. Hearing said cries seems to evoke a range of emotions; some seek to find a source, thinking someone needs help. Others are repulsed or frightened, driving people off and there are even reports of some converting to various religious beliefs or beginning to worship a deity where they did not before, so afraid of another encounter with a Weeping Spirit they ask the gods to save them even if they did not previously believe.

There are too many unknowns. In my own attempts to find and study such a spirit I have been unsuccessful. Thankfully-"
