Kuazab Dagan

With a name that roughly translates to 'forbidden island', Kuazab Dagan lives up to that moniker.

The first forays onto this island ended in disaster; everyone who set foot on its shores or came within a few miles of it ended up killing themselves in often brutal fashions. It was as if their self-preservation instincts had been turned off and their intrusive thoughts won without any resistance.

It took two more tries before they figured out how to safely retrieve the bodies. Two more teams that went to try and get the remains of their friends only to end up in the same state. A druid saw animals on the island, and offered herself as an experiment; to wildshape into a bird and fly to the island, to see if it was a humanoid form that set off the phenomenon or a humanoid intelligence.

When she came back to the ship unharmed they sent others in bigger forms to bring the bodies back to the ships. To be studied, and returned to their loved ones to be given proper burials. After that a quarantine zone was set up around the island to prevent other ships from getting too close and meeting the same fate. A magical barrier now keeps them at a safe distance, only able to be dispelled by extremely strong magics and set to alarm the major cities if that barrier is attacked.

A few since have tried to request access to the island, but all requests have been denied. There would be nothing good gained from studying such a phenomenon - the potential for abuse was too great, and the country's need for land was not so dire as to try to understand it in order to dispel it. The potential cost of life to conduct such experiments, especially if the research fell into the wrong hands, was also too high.

None have been closer than the barrier to the island since it was set up, leaving the place and untouched paradise where death is the price of trying to touch it.
