Finn's Earthship

Lay-out

The house is almost dome-like. The living space and kitchen are in the same 'room'.
Then near the kitchen's mass heater is the bedroom, notched out in the wall. This has a brown curtain in front of it to separate it from the living space if needed.
Small bathroom

Next to the frontdoor, facing the small creak, hangs a tapestry so you can sit outside in the shade when it's hot. The owner Finn and his friends often eat here.

Behind the house is the greenhouse. It's big and made of wood and glass. Door is made of repurposed windows.
Attached to this is a small cabinet to store wood and pinecones for fire.

There's one room upstairs, mainly storage for food and stuff to repair the home/greenhouse, some garden stuff as well. It does have two big windows across from each other for airflow. Would've been Hailey's bedroom.

On the front is a grass field where friends can park their cars, place for 3 cars max.

General vibe

It's cozy, often warm inside as the walls hold a lot of the sun's warmth. Kind of magical really, since it's at the edge of the woods with a small creak next to it.
It's often warm inside, around the right temperature to be comfortable, but in the summer the owner often sleeps outside in a hammock.

There are random buckets placed outside to catch water for the plants and random wooden baskets with pinecones inside (these are used as firestarters).

Bed room

The bedroom is pretty small, as it's notched out in a wall. There's a two-person mattrass put in with white linnen/pillows on it.
It has two shelves, one shelf with some books and the other with candles.
It has a small round window that's at night covered with a brown curtain. The acces point is in the living room, it's also covered with just a brown curtain to create more of an open space.

Bedroom 2

This is actually the attic, it would be Hailey's room before she died. It has a red door and some stones she collected are placed in the walls.
You can acces it by a door and the floor is made of wooden planks.
Right now it's a bit of storage.

Bath room

Has a composting toilet and a simple blue sink attached to the wall. Shower with a glass door.
The sink is second hand, but he liked the feel of it; reuse before buying new.
There's a small sansevieria fernwood in the corner, a plant with thick green stalks, it belonged to the owner's sister when she died.

Garden/ green house

The greenhouse has a lot of open "bookcases" (pallet racking? I have no idea what the word is, look up IKEA IVAR cabinets, those open ones) that have plants on it.

He grows herbs inside in the living room, but the greenhouse has deep pots.
In those are strawberries, carrots, lettuce, cabbage, onions and tomatoes in. Also grows leek in some glass pots filled with water as an experiment (it goes quite well so far).
Planning to plant beans, but still has to find a variety he loves.
Near the door is a raspberry plant and some smaller pots with peppers and spring onions.

Owner dries the peppers most of the time and crushes them into powder to use in dishes.

Has a multi-coloured hammock un the garden hanging from the two oldest trees.

Kitchen

A mass heater made of rock, it works on burning wood. It has a flat surface to cook on, but you can only regulate the heat by how much burning wood you put in it, this also warms the house.
Wooden plates and bowls, the owner hand-carves those.
A pressure cooker, often used for rice, couscous and pasta.
Also includes a food dehydrator and a lot of glass jars. All jars mis-match because he gathered them over the years from food (apple sauce, beans, corn-jars etc).
The owner is very into low/0 waste and tries to grow all his food himself, or at least buy it without packaging.

Materials - What is Finn's Earthship made out of?

Mostly cob (a mixture of sand, clay and straw), a lot of wooden pillars and big grey rocks found near the river.
Inside the walls are used car-tires that are tamped down with dirt.
The walls have glass bottles in them that creates beautiful lighting when the sun shines in, but they mostly act as filler for the walls. No particular pattern, most bottles are either transparant or green (beer and wine bottles). There's an occasional divergent bottle that's red or blue, from liquor.
Look up 'earthship' on youtube, you'll get the feeling.

living room

The floor is made by all types of tiles. Tyrone's father works at a workshop that deals a lot with wood and tiles etc, so he could get those really cheap.
It's a mixture of white, black, grey and some red and blue tiles, all varrying in size.

Then there's a bright yellow couch pushed against a wall, with some cane chairs as well. The chairs are second-hand, and the couch is Danny's old one, it doesn't really fit the home as it's velvet, but it's nice and soft.

Electricity is done with solar-panels, but as I'm still looking into how that works, I'm not going to put much in here yet.
