Faerie Owl

In forests that become blankets of snow come winter faerie owls fill the branches for as long as it is cold. At first glance they can appear no different from normal snow owls, though small ones, and most wouldn't notice a difference so long as the faerie owl sits still.

These creatures are gifted with magical powers, used either to defend themselves from those with malicious intent or bless those who travel through their forests without interrupting anything - often without those travelers even knowing. They may speak of good fortune when traveling in the forest, reaching their destination swifter than they expected or not encountering any dangers along the road, unaware that the faerie owls kept them safe.

What few have managed communion with these creatures speak highly of them; they are intelligent, speak most languages either naturally or through magical means, and wish only to be left in peace in their homes and give what small aid they can to those who respect them.

Because of these, forests where faerie owls make roost are often protected by the local people. Anyone who comes asking the wrong questions, or who would clearly seek to harm these creatures, is swiftly dealt with so that they can remain at peace.
