Wolf
Wild, four-legged canines that are often much larger than the average person gives them credit for. While they can be tamed, it is never in a true sense; a wolf might listen, obey orders, and even be a suitable mount for some individuals but the wolf is always in control.
Wolves are carnivores through and through, hunting in packs to single out weaker prey and bring it down with numbers. The howling that erupts after a kill can be heard for miles, drawing in those who were hunting elsewhere for the meal and alerting the carrion feasters that they too will eat in due time.
They are also surprisingly adaptable. For example the color and density of their fur changes based on their environments; those who hunt in forests or open fields have thinner fur in shades of brown or grey/black to blend in with the night while the wolves found in snowy regions have white fur to camouflage them against the snow.
It is also important to note that wolves are rarely evil; they simply lack the intelligence for it. They do not stalk and kill sentient races because they want to, a wolf chasing anything but other animals is either sick, starving, or being controlled. They do not kill livestock to farm the harmer, those are simply prey animals the wolf has easy access to. They are an important part of the ecosystems they inhabit and deterrents are preferred over outright killing if the wolf is otherwise healthy.
