He was, overall, a very cheery, well-liked person. He was definitely the absent-minded professor type (which is part of the reason Mrs. Ryba was so good for him; back then, her mind was often the only thing keeping him in line, so to speak. He was always very nice to people, though, and people generally liked him. Despite his absent-mindedness, he made a good headmaster.

Being a scientist, he was very intelligent. He just had no sense of time. At all.

Bachelor's and Master's in Biology, plus a Doctorate in Alphan Biology

He was born in Poland, and grew up in a town not far from Arlamow, the birthplace of his wife and son. He met Mrs. Ryba at a festival while they were teens, and it didn't take long for them to fall for each other. They ended up eloping together, due to his parents' disapproval, and stayed in Arlamow with Mrs. Ryba's family until shortly after their first son was born, when they moved to America for a job opportunity.

Then, in 1974 (shortly after moving to America), he was part of a group of scientists that was finally able to discern the cause behind the sudden appearance of superpowers, and how they worked. Excited by this new find, he spent the next few years of his life studying everything he could about Alphans.

One fateful night, his wife was talking to him about a particularly troublesome Alphan child who absolutely refused to listen to authority. When she mentioned that situations like that occurred all the time, however, with little they could do about it, he was taken aback, and asked her what policies were in place involving disobedient Alphans. She explained that, because of the strength of their powers, and the lack of any substantial way to safely control them, there was no way discipline them.

This troubled her husband, and got him started on his latest project: creating a school solely for Alphans, which opened for enrollment for the fall of 1983.

He ran the school for 20 years, before his unexpected death in a car wreck on August 15, 2003.

• Mrs. Ryba: He and his wife were very close, as long-married couples often are. His wife still misses him, and keeps his wedding ring close.


• Dr. Ryba: While they had grown slightly apart for a while in Dr. Ryba's younger years, they had started to bond better again over their mutual love of science, as well as Ryba Sr. training the younger Ryba on how to take over the academy when he left.
