Solaris de Niro
Sola
Female
18
140 lbs
5'7"
Pure white, streaked with gold. A particularly bold streak swoops through her front bang.
Solaris usually has her hair pulled up in some form of a bun. If not that, then she has it braided, or swept up underneath a headscarf. It really depends on her mood and the season when it comes to changing up her hair. During the winter, she might have it in braids; in the summer, she might have faux dreads; in the spring and fall, her
hair could be as it normally is - voluminous and large and curly. It lands to her tailbone when in a stretched state (looser curl pattern). When in curly ringlets, her hair really shows how incredibly thick it is, forming in a soft cloud around her shoulders and face, and her hair texture appears to be 4A.
Gold. When using her semblance, her eyes glow more molten colors
Rich and warm dark brown skin

She had been told that she's 'slim thick' before. Hadn't really known that was the term for it, though she is most definitely toned with an hourglass figure, cinched abs, strong thighs and glutes.
Sola has quite a few marks on her. Outside of just regular scars from skirmishes, the first most obvious thing someone would notice about her would be the almost triangular shaped gold patches on her cheeks that swoop down to her jaw. Those happen to cover scars - Sola's kind of invested in body art, and liked the way that the metal settled on her face. She also has two thin lip rings, a tongue piercing, and several ear piercings along the cartilage.
Sola knows that she could technically take out some of her piercings - it'd just be annoying what with her aura healing those spaces closed so fast and needing them re-pierced.
She is thinking about getting some tattoos in the future. Not sure where yet, though. Had been thinking about one that extends from her hip to her thigh, her back, and maybe between her breasts perhaps...
Solaris is dummy organized. She keeps calendars, alerts on her scroll, notebooks filled with - you guessed it - lists
of things and notes and schedules. Everything is neatly pressed, labeled, and written in clearly understandable printing. You can't really come at her in a way that she can't translate something down for another person to study or understand - she has it in video format, written format, audio, class recordings; she has it all. If she doesn't have it in her cache, then it'd be a genuine surprise for everyone, including herself. Even if she winds up sick and missing days of class, Sola finds a way to get a hold of her material and has it on several backups.
Tends to sparkle when she's very excited about something. It isn't something that she's even aware of. Sola gets excited - she starts to emit tiny sparkles, it kind of looks like glitter, except a glitter that doesn't stick everywhere. Surprisingly, these sparkles don't burn anything. #happysunbabe
When she's lying she always looks to the left. She can't help it.
Sometimes when she's bored or anxious, Sola tends to find a little piece of metal and just bend it. Doesn't matter what it is. Usually she has it on her already - an amalgamation of a couple of coins melted together in a solid blob and she fiddles with it to keep her hands busy. The metal heats underneath the pads of her fingers and she just molds it into whatever it is that she wants, like somebody messing around with Playdoh.
Tends to get uncomfortable when talk about relationships go on and on for a long time. Awkward, stiff smiles, vague
answers, tense nods - if those weren't cues enough, her attention would either start to drift away or she'd change
the subject. Don't get her wrong; Sola can get excited about other people getting into relationships. She's the type
to be happy that they're happy. But when it starts to drag, her attention wanes. If it, somehow, switched to
questioning her and her lack of relationship - the conversation is cut almost immediately.
When she's starting to get truly angry, her voice becomes clipped, harsher, and threaded with Atlesian - sharp, vicious words that can't be mistaken as compliments no matter what language it's in. Also, when drunk her accent, which she is usually better at hiding when sober, comes through and she may also start flirting, too
Deep down, Sola just wants to help people. Becoming a Huntress is that in her mind. She just wants to protect others. She doesn't think that it's any more different than how other emergency responders feel when they get the jobs that they have; it's just that - instead of burning buildings or missing people, she fights Grimm and sometimes
other bad human beings, too. Another thing that spurred her was the chance to be outside of Atlas for once and travel Remnant.
Being born and raised most of her life in Atlas, there's going to be prejudices about other kingdoms and Faunus. Vacuoan's are wild. Mistral's are lawless thugs who value money more than human life and would ruin Remnant if given the chance to extend their borders. Vale, while diverse, lets anybody into their borders and that opens them up to a slew of problems, both people and Grimm related, and it would only be a matter of time before that catches up to them. Things of that nature. Part of the reason why she wants to travel Remnant is to see if anything she had
been told was true or not.
Although she doesn't admit it, she has a deeper rooted reaction toward Faunus. She tenses up. She's suddenly a little more aware of her surroundings, and more wary. She doesn't like it when a Faunus makes a sudden move toward her. She doesn't like it when she's surrounded by them. She definitely would be on edge if put in a dark
room with one; just knowing that they could see her, were watching her, when she wasn't able to see them. It makes her stomach clench. It makes it a little harder to breathe. Sola doesn't feel hatred toward Faunus - she can't remember a time when she had felt hate or disgust or anything of that nature toward somebody - but she does feel
a type of way.
Cooking! The girl can cook quite well. Then again, she sort of had to learn how to cook from a young age what with being left in charge of herself and her baby sister from time to time. Origami, with paper and metal. Memorization. Singing.
Sola likes training quite a bit, learning new skills; the post-workout rush is kind of addicting. Reading is also a habit of hers. Cooking, of course. She likes to sing and dance - but both of those things aren't facts that she flaunts often. Makeup and fashion is interesting, too; she is kind of a sucker for a pretty dress, hearing people describe their new tattoos, body art, or makeup. Swimming.
Looking at the young woman, most people would assume that she would be a bold and demanding presence that would seize the gaze of every person within the room the moment that she enters - instead, what they're met with is a soft-spoken individual with such sharp and startlingly focused eyes that it feels as if she's staring directly into
your soul. Solaris is quiet, even calm, on the surface. Levelheaded and unassuming. Even-keeled. She knows how to act. She's responsible, restrained, and genuinely does attempt to do her best in most things that she accomplishes in her life.
Solaris is the first to startle and apologize when walking into someone - even if it wasn't her fault to begin with. She hesitates to fight or harm people that she knows or has befriended. With her soft voice and quiet nature, it's easy for people to assume that she's shy. Introverted. Gentle. In all actuality, Solaris does find it flattering that people think so, and would feel a small glow of warmth in her chest at the compliments. In that same breath, though, with her being so soft-spoken, non-confrontational in most cases, and unassuming in nature, it's simple for people to dismiss her, ignore her, overlook her.
Which is why it can be so alarming when those little hands of hers get a grip on something, and smoothly snap its neck. Solaris is just quiet. It doesn't mean that she's shy, introverted, or socially awkward all the time - she just doesn't have much to say and doesn't insert herself into conversations constantly. Underneath her warmth and soft
smile, she is someone who is unflinchingly loyal and confident. Solaris walks with a purpose, her back straight, chin up, eyes focused, and when she speaks, although her voice is naturally soft and hard to hear at times, she doesn't hesitate or waver. Instead of her speaking up, she causes people to shut their mouths and listen. Very rarely does someone press her to the point where her voice raises - and very rarely does she scream or lash out at someone in anger and lose her cool - though, if she does, with it being so outside of her character, those who know the put together young woman would understand within seconds somebody fucked up. Solaris can command a room, but
instead of demanding that attention from others, she waits patiently for the audience to come to her, gives her piece, opens up the discussion for more opinions and ideas, guides the conversation, and comes up with as proper a solution as she can. Her power is there but it's personal and wielded closely to her body.

Her fighting ranged from being trained at home by her family to being handled by connections of her mother - friends or old trainers - who accepted taking her in. When it came down to getting more combat and education, she had been schooled in Atlas
Atlas - Hometown: West Haven, Atlas. Think Salt Lake City meets Chicago and Norway; mountains piled high on the horizon and more starkly obvious in the cold winter, run through with a wide river that supports Atlas' largest bridge, and its epicenter filled with glowing skyscraper buildings, prime Atlesian technology, making up a busy and thriving metropolis city vibrant with every creed, color, and attitude on the West Side, meanwhile further from the heart of Haven more gorgeous and older architecture bursting with color winds through its wider streets - West Haven is a melting pot filled with life.

It is a simple looking contraption in the fact that it's main and default appearance is that of two plain circular disks with a portion cross-hatched to be used as a handle. It extends out into a pair of curved handheld scythes, and the final appearance would be a pair of swords or, if she chose to connect the two by the hilt, a double-edged spear.
Dust can be utilized within the weapon and, namely, lightning (yellow Dust) seems to be the best suited for her weapon, although if she manages to get her hands on Hard-Light Dust, all bets are off. HLD is her favorite to use even though it is a rare treat. In combination with her semblance, she's going to have a lot of fun with you. There is
a slot within the area where she holds the weapons that can allow her to slip a small amount of Dust into it to charge her weapons.
none at the moment. She had thought about 'Hemera', but naming her weapon after the Goddess of Dawn felt pretty presumptuous, even if it was harmless, in her opinion. So she decided not to.
circular disks. At least, that is what they appear to be. Flat and bronze colored handheld disks she wields.
curved handheld scythes. This is achieved through the disks handle springing outward, and the disklike shape opening up part-way like a half moon.
straight-edged swords that can connect at the hilts to form dual-pointed spear. The bladed portion of the scythes straighten completely, becoming the length of her forearms, and combined with the hollow points of the hilts coming together, can form a fairly formidable looking double-pointed spear or dual headed scythe if she were to
curve the blades again.
It can be damn overwhelming. Imagine:
All of the sudden, the world gets brighter as if the clouds opened up and the sun lowered itself closer to Remnant. Your one and only warning.
A streak of blinding light cleaves your vision in half - you block on instinct - then the jarring impact of a sword crashing against your own vibrates down to your shoulders, heat rushes your senses, sparks fly through the air and sizzle against your clothes and exposed skin before your eyes blink open again.
An orb of light shoots low - and you hit the brakes, digging your heels into the dirt and swerving out of its path. Bark sprays the air, and a smoldering C-shaped hole gores through the side of a tree next to you.
It's stifling hot. Blood pounding in your ears. Sweat running down your face and stinging your eyes. Your throat is raw from gasping in dry air and your lungs hurt from coughing up smoke. God forbid if you're in a building - fire climbing up the walls, curling across the ceiling in a pooling wave, sirens screaming, smoke swirling in thick clouds, sprinklers chugging for all their worth and spitting against the flames, fanning more steam into the air rather than solving anything. The building is groaning, the threat of it collapsing on top of you both rising with every second. And closing the distance is this bitch: eyes glowing, steam curling from her head and shoulders from where water
hits and immediately evaporates, charred footprints left behind where her shoes pressed down on the carpet and hardwood, radiating light from head to foot in a blinding gold haze that burns your eyes if you look at her too long and leaves an after image in your vision when you aren't, bearing down an intense heat worse than the flames
surrounding you that feels like it is cooking the fat under your skin.
Depending on how strong you are, taking a punch from Solaris might not kill you instantly, but it will still hurt a type
of way.
Sola can go a multitude of ways with how she plans on attacking someone, but she has a melee based weapon her two swords - and tends to rush for intense close combat. Giving up ground would be an admission, an
allowance to let her lash out with her semblance - causing fires, temporarily blinding her targets, spreading more
damage and reach for her to work with - or even Dust cartridges. Rarely is Sola pushed back into taking defense. Unless she cracks a HLD on the spot, she has no shield outside of whatever armor she's already wearing. When she throws her disks, she knows that there could be the off chance of them being caught or even knocked out of the field, which would put her at a disadvantage with one or no weapon all of the sudden. With her semblance so closely tied to fire and light, the obvious weakness would be water, or even ice or earth. If Solaris winds up captured and she's held somewhere without a centimeter of sunlight or otherwise coming in, she has nothing to generate energy from; she does have the option to wear herself out, using up her semblance and aura, but there would be no way for her to recover afterward. She would remain weak. If she's left there for days or weeks at a time, she would get weaker - sicker, more vulnerable and less capable of protecting herself against attackers, not to mention whatever psychological wear it comes with being locked in a pitch black, soundless room.
Pluck a Fire crystal from your belt, drop it on the floor, stomp down on it, and as fire erupts swing a flaming kick for someone's face. Clip earth in one sword, fire in another, combine and extend into its double-scythe form, then fan a swirling mass of magma out onto the field. Hell, Solaris could be running at you, toss a finger-sized length of earth
Dust out, aim with a clenched fist, blast a blinding ray of light to strike it and cause a rain of heated rock and ash to spray into the air. Then as molten stones beat against you, a band of light arcs from her again and hurls at your front, covering the silent approach of her disk bending through the air and hurtling toward your back.
Solaris uses Dust just as she would use any other kind of weapon given to her - strategically in battle, and for the
ones not seeing it coming, it can be damn overwhelming. She's exploring it. Trying to see how it works in tandem with her fighting style and her semblance.
In the case of Hard Light dust, though, it's without a single doubt that the girl is going to have an explosive range and array of capabilities; the only real downside being that she'll potentially find herself a little more tired than she usually would be once she's finished. Light Dust, she can crush in her bare hand without a problem - and be
granted a surreal surge of energy; a weapon or shield to use in case her swords are missing from the equation; an aid that would further boost the range of her usual Heliokinetic abilities. Survival really depends on whether or not Solaris de Niro has even a single goddamn centimeter of HLD on her - and more often than not, she does.
"Soul of the Sun". It's mainly known as Heliokinesis.
Utility
If you're able to get past the initial blinding shock of it, her semblance has a kind of molten orange-gold hue to it.
Orange as the sky during sunset, pretty much
Versatile. Could be short range in the fact that Sola simply heats up her skin and swings a punch at someone's face,
making that oh-so-nice sound of meat hitting the surface of a hot pan. Could be long range in her forming beasts or Grimm or shapes given time to concentrate, simple orbs of light shot from her palms or arcs of it swept from her movements, causing sweeping fires - meaning more sources of light for her to manipulate.
-She's strongest during the day. Solaris has been trained to withstand nighttime, and winter isn't as much as a liability to her as it was when she was a child (aka getting tired, weaker, more sluggish), but the difference between how she is during the day and dawn versus night and dusk is a little stark. She's more reluctant to make big punches, she takes longer to "recharge".
-Being dunked by water is a no-no. She hates it, first of all. Secondly, it causes a large steam cloud. Third, it does take her a minute to get back to how hot she normally is.
-When her aura is broken or when she's sick, Solaris' temperature plummets. And it plummets fast. Her normal and healthy temperature is 120-125 degrees, resting. Touching her skin is like touching somebody who just came in after spending hours outside on a warm and bright summer day in peak July weather, even if in reality it's storming hard to the point of hail spitting against the windows and it's late Autumn.
Without the protection of her aura, she gets colder. She starts to stammer. Her teeth chatter. She curls up. Her warm skin gets stiffer, grayer. She's more sensitive to temperature changes. She'll get dizzy, light-headed and nauseous, hallucinating. She might even exhibit some signs similar to somebody going through frostbite if left for
too long; taking off clothes or kicking away things that are supposed to keep her warm and alive, still unnaturally cold to the touch and all while complaining that she's fine and she feels better now. If it hits a certain point, she would drop into a dead faint, the only real warning beforehand being that her words are slurring, and she has trouble keeping her head upright. Her temperature could read "normal" for other people - but in Solaris' case, anything below 110 is abnormal. Until her aura is restored, she's given body heat to share, or she's placed in an extremely hot or bright area to combat the cold, her temperature would continue to drop until she dies. This is being 'Frostbitten' or having 'Burn Out'
Depending on several factors (weather, how much energy she used up, current injuries, etc), this could take either hours or days to hit an extreme like death or near-death.
-On the flip side, Sola could also hit something called "overheating". Overheating is when she's exposed to too much sun or heat all at once, as well as over extending herself with the use of her Heliokinesis. There's a difference:
Too much sun: Solaris is used to moderate to cold temperatures. If she's suddenly launched into a desert-like area, like Vacuo, she becomes overheated. This type of Overheating is due to being overwhelmed by climate change and not knowing what to do with all of this sudden energy, so it presents itself as heat/sun exhaustion. Solaris is stronger than she would ever be in any other Kingdom, even her most basic attacks having a little extra oomph to it, but since she isn't prepared and hasn't had a build up to that sort of climate and feeling that sort of energy, she doesn't know how to properly channel and control her output. Therefore, she wears herself down faster and without
even meaning to. She's more tired, sluggish, dehydrated and less aware of her surroundings. The good thing about
this type of overheating is that she'll eventually acclimate to her surroundings, give or take a week or two, and would be able to bounce back - and be incredibly hyper.
Overextending her power: this is the 'glass ceiling'!. Solaris could punish herself using her ability too much, for far longer than what she needs to, and be faced with issues. The more obvious signs that she's coming close to this type would be embers / sparks coming from her mouth, or coughing smoke. She'd be close, but she wouldn't be in
true danger. The danger starts when heat blisters begin to form on her hands or her skin, when her clothes are beginning to fray, when she finally stops using her semblance - and she's visibly steaming, gasping for air, crawling on the ground trying to get to shade and causing small fires around herself as a result. This light and heat and fire is
coming from her as much as it is around her. Solaris could have a stroke or a seizure; she could damage her vocal cords and respiratory system; she could burn herself - which would just result in more aura drain. Overextending past her limits, cracking that glass ceiling, there's a chance that she could fall back into Burn Out as a result. Hitting
a peak of how hot she could be, and then dropping in temperature as she comes back down. In this case, it's really just about stabilizing her back to her normal temperature.
-Solaris can manipulate light, but she can only be truly recharged by natural sources of light. Fire and sunlight does her the best. You could quite literally lay Solaris down in the middle of a camp fire and leave her there, and she'd be fine; she doesn't burn. She'd take a fire nap while you're eating smores. Electrical light is still light, but it would take her longer, and she would still feel somewhat groggy. Her body just likes that Vitamin D, okay? Heheheh
-Coming into immediate contact with her after she has stopped using her semblance does not mean that you're safe. Sola has a 'cool down' period. There's a difference between a girl who feels like she just came in from a sunny day, and a girl whose skin feels as hot as a frying pan filled with oil and you've just plunged your hand up to your
wrist in it. She knows that. That's why she heats herself up when she knows she's going into close combat - that's why if her bare fist lands on someone's cheek, it makes that sizzling sound. That's why Sola flinches and warns somebody she doesn't want burned not to touch her. "Don't touch me" in this case is more for your safety than anything.
Give her at least two minutes of space before trying to poke at her. Sola herself can't feel a difference between scalding hot and her "normal" hot, but she judges based on other people's and objects' reactions around her. If a piece of paper winds up burning and it's not even three feet away from her? Don't touch her. If that same piece of paper is pushed right up on her skin, wrapped around her arm, and Sola is staring at you like you've lost your mind?
It's fine. Can touch her then.
Sola sometimes wears Ice and Earth Dust infused gloves so that she would be able to touch things without causing it to set on fire. But sometimes she forgets those gloves. So the above paragraphs are the usual rule of thumb.
Where's the drawback to that? If she's knocked unconscious and had been using her semblance prior, Sola would not be able to get immediate medical attention. No one would be able to touch her safely without injuring themselves.
Huntress-in-training
She seems to enjoy boba milk tea quite a bit. That counts, right? She's also a sucker for a good pasta dish.
She has a blanket that her grandmother gave her; dark navy blue and designed with diamond shaped stars across it. Listen - it's soft as hell, okay? She's had it since she was 10 and it's never failed to completely swallow her whole with more blanket left over to drag on the floor and it's weighted and it's just A+. Love it. Can always count on
having the deepest sleep when wrapped around in it. Cocoon naps are the best.
