Seo Yeon was raised by her dad, since her mom was often in and out of trouble. When Seo Yeon was 18, loan sharks murdered her dad when he couldn't pay for his wife's debt. Seo Yeon was raped and when she regained consciousness, everything she owned was gone except the clothes she was wearing and the pendant around her neck. She went from shelter to shelter, looking for any job she could get to get back on her feet. At the third shelter, she discovered that she was pregnant with one of the loan shark's child. Deciding to keep the child, she doubled down on trying to find a job and a place to stay. She never could find a permanent solution, and ended up giving birth in a public restroom to a baby girl. She named her Eun Ae.

Seo Yeon did her best to take care of her daughter while also trying to find a permanent job and shelter. She always made sure that Eun Ae would have a little something on her birthday, but even then it was always hard. When Eun Ae was five, Seo Yeon gave her daughter to a children's home; wanting a better life for her daughter. She promised that when she had enough money for them to be happy and healthy, she would come back for her; until then she gave Eun Ae the pendant she wore ever since her father died. A few years passed and Seo Yeon was given an opportunity to play a game for money. She had always been good at games in high school, so it could be a good opportunity.
