Io like all of the ancients aren't from Edrines, how they ended up deep underground in Edrines is a big secret. Like the rest of them he was asleep before explorers came too close disturbing their peaceful sleep. This somehow beginning a religion based around them and of course with him as their supreme god.

Ever since they were awoken Io has spent most of his time awake in their home, he rarely ever ventures out as there's not really a point for him to do so. While most of them venture out to claim humans and eat, Io just has them brought to him. He'll very rarely come out to see what's going on up top but really he just prefers to stay back.
