A loud grunt comes from behind him. He whips around, firing his gun at the walking corpse hitting it in the forehead. He continues walking around. It's been a year and a half since the apocalypse started. The human population had declined by hundreds within the first week. From what he guessed, there were only about a thousand humans left, scattered among cities world-wide filled with bodies that have no memories, no thoughts, nothing. He was originally from the town over, but he needed to leave. He couldn't see all the people he used to know when they couldn't see him. Axl scans the city as the sun lowers itself slowly into the shelter of the night. Shelter for the sun, quite opposite for humans.
Aim stalks quickly over to the fridge and opens it. The smell was almost overpowering. She stumbles away from it, coughing and retching. She was holding her throat and hurled out the window down to the wave of zombies below on the ground, "Disgusting! You loosers suck!"
She had found molded and rotten food in the fridge, "Well now what? I have no food, ammo. Just dead zombie bodies." SHe kicks the head of one which bangs against the opposite wall, "And Im stuck here."
There's definitely someone here. Axl freezes and readies his gun at the voice. It came from the the room directly below him, he was sure of that much. He leaned over the edge to see hair whipped back in the window. For the past year and a half, he's avoided humans and zombies alike. They were all the same. They either didn't have feelings. No sympathy or empathy. They'll kill you just to save themselves. There's a ladder. A ladder ran next to the window all the way to the alley floor. Where zombies roamed. Ready to kill. So, either run out of ammo and die, die on the rooftop of starvation, or see another human after not seeing one for a little less than a year. I'll take my chances. He made his way down a few steps of the ladder quietly when he heard the last sentence. "I'm stuck here." Something caught his foot on the ladder. Crap. His shoe was stuck. He tried to get it unstuck. Crap crap crap.
AIm jerks her head around. She readies her sniper and tuck-and-rolls out of the window. The sniper up and ready, "Who's there?! Im armed!" She was bluffing though. SHe had no ammo and if t where a zombie she'd be done for.
"Hey hey hey!" Axl brings his gun up too, holding onto the ladder with only one arm. There's a fierce look in her eyes, but also a lie. He's always been good at knowing if someone lied. Especially Ella… He pushes the thought away, lowering his gun. "Go on with your bad self." A smirk makes his way onto his face.
"Huh?" She doesnt lower her gun at all, "DOnt tell me what to do, bub." It was obvious she had no idea what he meant.
Axl leaned into the window. "I said," his voice lowers and smirk grows. "Shoot me." To be honest, if he was wrong, it wouldn't matter. Either way he'd be satisfied.
"And why would I do that?" SHe lowers her gun slightly but was still on edge.
Axl chuckles and leans back. "Nevermind." He feel his shoe loosen. "Well see ya!" He continues down the ladder seeing that only a few zombies were near. That's funny there were more earlier….
AIm raises her gun again as he gets nearer, "Stay where you are!"
"Mhmm." He stops, looks to her and pretends to think about it. "How about no?" He continues down the ladder.
"Im warning you! Stop right there!" Aim barks but she hesitates slightly.
He can hear the hesitation in her voice, and yet, he stops and looks at her, eyes softening for just a split second before returning to their harsh state. "And why should I?"
"You're another human! I can't trust anyone! Get back!"
"No one can trust anyone these days." He sighs looking to the wall behind the ladder. "Look, I'm going to leave through the alleyway." He looks at her. "And then you can continue on by your happy, little, lonesome self? Deal?"
"You can't go down there! You'll die!" She had heard the rest of the crowd of zombies on the first floor of the apartment building.
"I'm pretty fast." He knew he couldn't survive, not alone at least, but every bone in his body ached to get away from her. "Even if I do, I guess it sucks to be me."
Aim stands up, dropping the sniper to her side, "We've lost to many humans to the plague."
Axl waits a second. Don't do this. He looks to her. "There's a better view of the city on the roof." He begins to climb up instead of down.
"Huh? Why did you bring up the city?" Either her mind was moving really slow because of the virus/air or this guy just wasn't making any sense.
Axl scoffed. "From what it seems like, neither of us have any food. So, we can go to the roof and look for any place that might have some. Good?" He made sure he announciated every word.
She snarls, "Don't talk to me like that." She barks but puts the sniper around her shoulder with it's strap and follows the guy.
Axl makes his way up the ladder, partially satisfied with what should seem like a victory. Who wants to be alone in the apocalypse? Me. He pushes himself up to the roof and brings his leg up to stand. He looks back to see her and offers a hand.
She knocks it away and vaults up to the roof, "I can do it myself thanks."
Axl puts both his hands up. "Geez, sorry," he mutters under his breath. He walk over to the opposite side of the roof. The sun is setting to his left, making everything a shade of orange giving an illusioned sense of hope. He points out in the distance. "There." He looks back to her. "There's a shop out there. It's on the very edge of the town, not as many zombies walking around." It was a small town, but not small enough to get from one end to the next in twenty minutes. "But we'll have to wait till tomorrow if we don't want to get caught."
Aim walks out to the very edge of the roof to see. SHe shields her eyes then looks down at the few zombies below. (SHe's vulnerable! Knock her off the roof! XD
(XD That was what was running through my head. And Axl's. BTW I absolutely love your username starts crying NOOT!! MY CHIIILLLDDD!!)
Axl has an urge to just leave her staring into the distance and run off the other way, but something inside him told him she was worth keeping around. The sky began to fade out leaving a purple tone. "This is probably the best place to stay for the night."
(Oh yay! Lol you actually got the reference!)
"Cool. One of us should take first watch then. That is if we are sticking together in this now." SHe barks back, turning quickly as the thought of him pushing her off the roof flitted through his mind
"I will," he said without hesitation. "And I think it's a good idea to stick together at this point." He glances to see her turn. Darn. Harsh. "Don't be too surprised if I'm gone. I can't promise anything." …She's harsh?
Aim narrows her eyes but walks over to guy, "Fine. You'll need this." She smacks a small, crank flashlight into his hand, "If you run off it wont matter." She then flops down at the guy's feet on her side.
