She considered. "Not sure. I once rammed a bishop into a guard's eye," she said nonchalantly.

Haile shook his head slowly. "No."

Eli shook his head disappointingly. "If you want fun, you have to behave."

Ana nodded once more. "What did she do? Was the circus like it is now when she was there?"

Alice smiled cheekily. "Misbehaving is half the fun, thought."

"She was sent here because she was talented is all. And it was worse when she was here."

Eli sighed. "You're a hopeless case."

"Worse?" Ana couldn't believe that it was possible. "What role did she have in the circus?"

She shrugged proudly. "What can I say? I have a rebellious soul."

"Singing and dancing. She was incredible," he remembered.

"I don't think rebellious is the right word."

"What happened to her? Why is she…..like that?"

"What would you say is, then?"

Haile sighed. "Obviously a place like this takes its toll. And it probably didn't help that half the people in her group were taken for experimenting. Besides, she was young and impressionable."

Eli shrugged again. "Crazy. Psychopathic."

"Experimenting?" Ana asked, ignoring everything else.

Alice brought a hand to her chest in mock hurt. "That stung, Eliott."

Haile rolled his eyes. "Do I have to keep going?" he whined.

Eli pointed to the gash in his arm. "So did this."

"Yes. What experimenting?"

Her grin disappeared. "Touche."

He huffed. "Gene mixing, mostly."

"I'm using that against you forever."

"What? Why would someone want to do that?"

"Now, that's a bit unfair," she countered.

"So the performers would be more talented, obviously.

"Not really. I mean you're the one who stabbed me." Eli shot back.

Ana shook her head. "That's terrible."

"You punched me first!" Alice countered indignantly.

Haile shrugged again. "Yes, well, the world's not all cupcakes an unicorns."

"You threatened my friends. And you were previously in jail."

"Wish it was."

"Nobody's perfect," she huffed.

Haile smiled mirthlessly.

Eli pretended to flip his hair dramatically. "I beg to differ."

Alice chuckled. "I'll admit there are exceptions."

"And I'm one of them." Eli responded smugly.

Alice rolled her eyes. "Keep telling yourself that." Again, she turned to leave.

"You know, it's rude to walk away from a conversation." Eli responded, walking up to her.

Alice shook her head. "The only reason you'd ever talk to me like that is with an ulterior motive."

"Nah. You're pretty nice when you aren't trying to kill me or my friends."

She raised a sceptical eyebrow. "Unlikely you'd think that. I murdered you, remember?"

He shrugged. "Yeah. Being a ghost is pretty cool though. I mean, I don't have to worry about getting hurt anymore." Just keep going… Eli thought to himself.

"What does it feel like?" Alice asked reluctantly.

Eli shrugged again. "It feels like usual. Except when I do this." He stuck his hand through the wall. "It feels like my hand is stuck in really dense water."

Alice stifled an honest laugh. She shook herself out of it and looked ahead. "How about when you pass through someone?"
